Re: How to make that bass. That filthy, saturated, bass.
Pretty Lights runs his stuff through analogue hardware - using synths ITB might only get you so far, although most of what Hircine said seems legit.

Re: Kill The Noise - Talk To Me Bass
spend as much time with your synth as he probably has and maybe it'll come to you. a waaaaay deeper understanding is required than just knowing what wt he's used/what synth. these threads are everywhere, and i think everyone's looking for an easy solution, but there isn't one aside from practise and more practise.
Re: How To Make This Sound - January 2013
the question is why would you want to make sounds like that?
this forum.... fuck...
Re: How to make 'Mala - Jah Power' sound?
any idea of the name of the sample or what tune its from? would love to get my hands on it haha

Exactly this.hasezwei wrote:oh and ITS NOT A VOCODER GODDOMMIT!
look, kill the noise used to be ewun who used to do dnb and has been into resampling for years before datsik even started producing.
now what im trying to say now is NOT that youll need to resample your bassline 20 times to make it magically sound good but rather that the individual parts of the bassline are made independently and then arranged together. dont focus on how to make ONE sound morph in such a complex way that it happens to sound like someone saying actual words because frankly that wont happen. even going from one vowel to another that doesnt sound shit (like most formant filters) is pretty hard to do and most people dont manage that.
so what you do is make shitloads of vowels and transitions like OAH YU OI or whatever kung fu noise suits you, make them fit together by processing them similarly (send all your parts to a bus with compressor and saturation or something, get shit to gel) and have fun building words out of your new formant legos.
just dont expect people to understand wtf your bassline is saying unless you're telling them first like KTN did.

I recreated what I thought it was, and it sounds pretty right on. I used U-He ACE. It is literally just a blend of a saw wave and the sub osc with a tiny bit of chorus. After that I used a bit of saturation, then a cut around 400 hz and added a tiny bit of verb. So there you have it, should be really easy to recreate in any synth I'd imagine. I just chose ACE because it feels slightly more analog to me.

how do i make that drop at B0:55 ? sounds like he managed to emulate vocals and real instruments so perfect spor is a real genius
Re: How to make that bass. That filthy, saturated, bass.
I thought it sounded like there was a hint of square wave in there. I could just be an asshat though.

This man has it down, He put out an Ableton project for it. Its massive, modern talking but a fuck load of modulation to get it to sound like that.

Had a shot too, very similar method - except the midrange was done in Massive, had the square-saw wavetable around 75% towards saw. Distortion and saturation on the midrange then bussed with the sub which is an analogue sample, compressed with more saturation then a minor bit of excitement and limiting on the master.

Re: Kill The Noise - Talk To Me Bass
Doesn't surprise me it's MT, you can hear Massive's wavetables all over KTN's basses - but unlike other people he actually designs them to sound good with nice modulation rather than just an OIOIOI sound.

Unusual one from me, looking for tips/ideas on how to do this:
@3:37ish onwards
Where the pluck "comes out" from the centre as the reverb drops away, idk how to describe it and I think I'm overthinking it but I couldn't recreate how the pluck sound progresses

Re: Synth... Reminds me of a flute for some reason.
Anyway you could explain a way to use synthesis to make such a sound? Or anyone else in here? Really stumped and want to make that synth badly. I've heard it in several other tracks, just can't remember which ones, so I know it can be made by the likes of Massive or anyother synth.rattleglue wrote:I can't offer much help in the way of synthesis, but I can tell you it sounds like a guitar; try focusing on the midrange and playing around with the attack/decay so that it sounds like you're plucking a guitar string (i.e. attack volume is higher than sustain volume)- use a compressor to emphasize the initial strike of the note as well. I tried to make something like your synth to offer up help and I think the most difficult part will be finding a nice warm overdrive plugin; I'm also too much of a noob to tell you if he's using chorus, flange, phaser or whatever but I'm p. sure he's using some manner of modulation, whether he uses that before or after the overdrive I also couldn't figure out.sofarmusic wrote:It's a synth that I can't explain in any way. I've wanted to know how to make it for a long time, but I've searched a decent way, and since I don't know anything about it, I didn't get far at all in research. Any help would be appreciated.
The synth begins at 3:39. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOveB8GUrrg
The really high pitched, fluid, gliding one.
I hope I was helpful

Re: How To Make This Sound - January 2013
i know it's a hip hop track, but the vocal cutting DJ Alchemist does at :53 is incredible, does anyone know how to go about chopping like that?
I found a way to get piece of mind for years and left the hell alone, turn a deaf ear to the cellular phone
Re: How To Make This Sound - January 2013
It's just so fucking boring and unoriginal, it's even got the 'hey' sample between beats like so much trap, which is also wank.skimpi wrote:LOL, come off it mate, you are on DUBSTEPFORUM, not houseforum, you cant moan that people wanna make those sounds. I know this is dubstepforum, but I joined because I heard that alot of house / garage / whatever producers used it and there was some interesting posts by them i.e. pearson sound, objekt, james blake et al. Seems like those days are long gone tho..
It's just so rare to see people posting examples of really interesting music in this thread, like Actress, Lukid, Arkist etc... seems a shame

Was doing a bit of searching around last night and have a feeling it might be a dub siren? downloaded a free vst siren and gunna have a mess around with it tomorrow!
And yes, the heavy reverb and delay goes without saying really haha

Re: How to make 'Mala - Jah Power' sound?
You want a synth with a self oscillating filter (tal noisemaker is good and free)
Turn all the oscs off except a white noise generator.
Turn the res right up, set the cut to taste and sweep it with an envelope.
Should be in the ball park, use filter feedback or saturation to roughen it up, obviously dub it out to taste..,
