The occasions I've played live, I'd take codeine or benzos to deal with nerves. Always thought they put me in a more creative head space.

I used to play shows where I got paid in E. Those enhanced it for sure. I would also say benzodiazepines to an extent to calm nerves. Don't overdo it though.
Drugs are not always trustworthy though so it's a tight rope. It could also destroy the night.

I first heard about "smart drugs" years and years back - maybe 15 years ago on a Tijuana trip with some friends I bought a bunch of Hydergine and brought it back, but didn't really notice any effects (also not knowing that is was usually cycled and taken with potentiators.)

A couple years ago I first came across the term ("nootropic") while reading up on other pharm interactions, then discovered L-Theanine which sounded kind of ideal - makes you relaxed and mentally alert at the same time, paradoxically - and bought some expecting it not to work...

...but it did. Mind you, the effect is subtle - it's not a drug high or anything you're gonna roll yer eyes back into your skull on. It's worth noting that my dosage was double the recommended minimum due to my large body mass (I'm 6'5" and 250 lbs.)

I only recently discovered the piracetam and it's pretty interesting stuff. Tastes horrible but all of the Erowid trip reports are pretty accurate. You start taking it every day and you'll definitely notice something, although there seems to be some variability with peoples' personal experiences. Mental focus & clarity and a slight deadening of emotions are what I notice most with it. I mean, you've never seen a motherfucker multitask until you've seen someone on a high dose of a 'racetam just get shit done.

The best thing of all is that these drugs all appear to have very, very high toxicity thresholds, meaning you'd have to eat your body weight in the stuff before any adverse effects would come to pass.

awesome. funny enough i'm about that size as well. may have to give it a go. i've been attracted to caffeine for the same reason, the 'get shit done' mode, the only drawback is how addictive it is, which i do not like, and i've kinda given it up. (and is extremely toxic in comparison)

says on the pedia that theanine is found in green tea, although i'm sure in small amounts, and i certainly have noticed that sort of effect with green tea, but that also has caffeine in it, idk, but yeah, i'm very interested in these on a pharmocological level if nothing else, i'll be doing research for sure

Honestly, the music gets me high enough by itself and experiencing it sober has always given me the best effects.

I never had the problem of being too high because when I was mixing (CDJs btw), I seemed to just enter a state where I am 100% concentrated. I remember this one time during a set, I drank loads of alcohol and didn't felt it but as soon as I ended up the my set I was like "wow I'm this drunk? how could I mix?!". Also my first beatmatch live was during a private party (= infinite alcohol), I did a perfect mix during one of my biggest jags ever.

But I don't think it will enhance anything, technically at least. However, I know artists that do cocaine, for example, to increase their "presence" on stage.
