Oh no shit. nice tip!Morrello wrote:On the subject of tools (pause), a cool tip here is you can set your cursor to act like the multi tool in pro tools. Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
So I'm not really sure what's happening so I took a screenshot. Basically the fonts in Logic 9 all look pretty weird. It reminds me of when you accidentally type something all in bold, and then change the letters to not being bold, and then they look weird and tiny.
What I'm really interested in is the obvious part in the screenshot. Whenever the time marker moves past a clip when it's playing it turns the clip a lighter shade of green (or in the case of a blue audio clip, it turned it maroon). At first I thought I was just tripping balls, but the screenshot doesn't lie!
I tried imbedding the picture, but apparently the resolution is too high or something. Here's a link for it though:

Anyone run into this problem before? I'm frantically backing everything up just incase my GPU is burning out again, but it'd be nice to know if maybe this is just a software thing with Logic, like April fools or something...

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
Is there an issue with transferring EXS24 patches from one computer to another computer, specifically those created by converting REX files?
I have two computers that I use Logic 8 on, one a old MacBook that I usually have with me at work and will use free time to organize my sample library. Lately I have been converting all of my REX files to EXS24 patches. The second computer is an old G5, and initially I thought I could create patches on the laptop, then transfer over both the REX files and the EXS24 patches to the G5 and they would be accessible.
Well, the G5 set up will show the patch names on the EXS24 browser/drop down, but when I try to load one up, nothing loads and the system asks if I want to search again or continue with out anything loaded. Could this be some sort of indexing issue (I've come across the Apple Loops one recently)? Am I placing the files in the wrong places (right now I just mirror what I have on the laptop)? I would reallllly like to avoid duplicating my efforts, to have these libraries available on both set-ups.
Also, if it helps, I have been playing the files in the following:
EDIT: Oh yeah, for the record, if I create an EXS24 patch on the laptop, using .WAV or .AIF files, I can transfer the source sample and the EXS24 patch to the G5, and it loads with no issues. My problem here is specifically patches created from REX.

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
is there a shortcut to alt dragging some wavs but not copying them just using the same original file? i keep having to drag them out the bin individually and its rather slow
Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
dont understand what ur talking about exactly (its my frenchness i guess)... but i copy bits of audio by dragging them from the arrange window to another spot in the arrange window pressing alt... it could copy any bit of audio/midi from ur arrange window ... dont need to go to the bin for that..

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
i know holding alt and dragging copys i use that all the time for midi but when you do it to any wavs it will make a duplicate copy in your bin so eventually it will be full of unnecessary files, what i'm wondering is if there was a way of doing what alt and drag does but without actually making another file if that makes sense?

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
For the past few months I've been producing, I've been uploading all my one shot percussion samples into UB without any problems. I do separate channels for each different drum. I hear a lot of people use EXS24 for their percussion. Does anyone know of any advantages using EXS24 over UB? I've been fine with UB, and have uploaded a few kicks using EXS, but I'm wondering what other people use to upload drum samples and what their opinion are between the 2 synths.
Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
Ultrabeat is good, I have used it exclusively in the past but one downside that comes to mind is that it fades-in the first few ms of a sample when using drag & drop. This mean certain samples can loose their attack. EXS does not do this....inDistinkt wrote:For the past few months I've been producing, I've been uploading all my one shot percussion samples into UB without any problems. Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
ultrabeat has its own step sequencer too.
Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
yes but as its been discussed before, its not the most reliable \transparent drum machine out there

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
When I load a sample into EXS does it make another copy of the sample, since I have to save it as a new instrument? Just wondering cuz Im kinda low on space on the HD.
Plus, gonna have to come up with a better way of organizing my EXS instruments. Do you guys usually load more than one sample in each set?

Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
Read the manual for the first question, for the second look up some youtube videos but if your choosing the multi-out exs you can load as many samples as there are outs and set each sample to a specific key for editing in the piano roll.inDistinkt wrote:When I load a sample into EXS does it make another copy of the sample, since I have to save it as a new instrument? Re: The Logic Q&A Thread
the thing i liked about ultra beat was that i could send each drum sample in there to a bus so i could fx/eq them separate. Does the EXS sample have this function? I was just wondering, cant check it myself since im at work.
