interesting drop no lies. great grooves. only thing not cool is the snare is a bit weak or quiet maybe bring it up just a tad yeah? is that a reverse cymbal? I added you on soundcloud as well
safe, yeah i got the compression all messed up so the snare either sounded too loud or too quiet, ill see if i can get it sorted
and yeah its a reverse hi hat, but its quite hi pitched.

@JFK Checked out your Myspace - some wicked tunes mate. I specially like lets play at breathing being a massive fan of Bonobo myself. Though maybe it could do with some sub bass after when the main melody comes back in at around 2 mins. IDK though might ruin it.
Good to know there is another Ninja Tune fan out there...

literally just made this a few mins ago. its kinda for this girl. im feeling it but i need some more ears. im gonna be here for a while so ill offer feed back to anyone with something bout this one.
Sounding good man, will sound better with some sub bass under it but I'm sure you're on it. Nice hats, though i reckon the velocities could do with some randomisation to make them sound more "real." Also the melody that comes in at 0.30 is a bit sudden, maybe a little break might make the transition smoother. Sorry if this sounds overly critical but there are some really good ideas in there which is why i've got so much to say

Nice wobbles dude , rate groovy as has already been said. yeah snare needs a bit of work and maybe you could do with having a different snare/snares for the off beats.. Well done on the hat's btw theyr'e sick!

An ambient track I've been working on

@djchainz
Every time we touch... I get dirty.
Pure filth of a tune, disgusting bass sound :u: I feel this could stand up without the cascada sample although this is still a good idea. The sample is an original idea and im sure cascada would shit her pants listening to this which is of course brilliant.

Like this tune alot brill idea, good production, excellent bass sound, pure filth.

@ryanhurlyproducer
FREE 320** let me know what you think please if you get the time :)
I liked this one aswell the bass sound grabbed me straight away from the drop. I feel this has a sort of grime influence, I could imagine a good mc on this one, would suit an mc like trim doing a war dub. Good use of breaks in this and good production, I will deffo take advantage of the free 320 :D

@max4beats

The first tune is good not my kind of dubstep but i enjoyed this nether the less. The wobble was a good addition to this it bought a bit of variety to the tune. I like the lead and the early 90's rave kinda sound was constantly expecting it to drop into some sort of fast paced ravey kinda tune. Good production and good idea.

Second tune made good use of the vocal samples. I like the synth and also the early 90's sega mega drive sorta sound in there. I have a feeling you go for somewhat retro sounds which i love a bit of the old in with the new. this would have been classic playing streets of rage. That throaty bass sound is sick would of liked to of heard more of that. This again like i said on another tune has a sort of grime influence would sound good with a good mc on top maybe.

Good stuff like it.

Will do some more later Eastenders is on :z:

*looks around*

it appears the users named after female genitalia have vacated this particular thread...

looks like its safe for knell to return and for me to quit being such a :baby:

first of all, big big up to JFK, Geeza and others for picking up where i left off and keeping this thread moving proper! <3

second of all, i didnt leave just to have a temper tantrum, i've been enjoying my free time and been busting out many new demos, so definitely head over to http://www.myspace.com/baronRogue and check them out!! would love some feedback on any of them.

thirdly, i've been invited to Wabber's production round table, where i will probably be putting in most of my effort from now on... however, it's not up yet and i'm probably rusty from taking a week off... so ill be busting out reviews here for the time being!! so get your tracks up if you want a knell review.. if no new tracks are posted ill be browsing through the past week and gleaning out tracks that i feel need a thorough review, or ones that have been ignored or fallen under the radar.

im back! love me or hate me

New track, Sampled and cut up vocals from a song by Lazard.

Check it out - I'm kinda proud of the part at 1:35 - 1:49

cheers guys!
(Jstick)- Badhair - Bittersweet

props:
+intro has almost an old school hip hop feel to it, yet dreamy and progressive, blending is well done and pitched vocals have a nice effect
+drop is ill and nasty! couldnt ask for a more sinister bass sound
+stutter on the vocals is so sweet, really a nice selection overall
+sweep right before the break is a nice touch, kinda like a sigh, really helps the flow

advice:
-high notes hit by the pitched vocals can be a tad piercing, especially during the first break, i feel EQ could reduce this a tad
-seems like you lose a little of the automation variation for awhile in the second drop (which is typically bigger or varied than the first), if you were using the stagnancy AS variation, i can feel that, so whatever you feel really, just pointing it out
-not sure if the ambience in the drop is part of the original song or not, but could use a pad mixed well in the background during these parts to break the dryness of the bass/drum combo
-the looped vocals are really the heart of this song, so i'd personally love a break in the routine of the loop during the second main riff/drop with the staggering vocals being brought back at surprising moments, like in the descending part of the melody

overall:
=oooooo, a dreamy one, this one is, aint it???!?! well done well done!!! really not much left to do on this one! one of those tracks that makes you wanna sweep your head in slow circles at the club... really a perfect choice for vocals, the best i've heard in a long time.. this song would trance you out so hard that those aforementioned surprises would really catch the listener off-guard...

bra------wait for it------VO!!!!

Collision - "Real Talk"

props:
+flow is nice, glad you didnt overdo the high ends
+false drop was super unexpected! nicely done
+sweet delay on the bells, if you did that yourself
+darkness
+

advice:
-not really feeling the reversed high hats out of the mix, once they're blended with everything they're unique and tasty tho
-intro ambience could be louder and a little more varied in layer
-intro drags a bit, but is nice and progressive if that's what you're going for
-eh, the false drop is well done, but definitely needs a stronger bass to come in after it (@1:45) for some punch, i almost had my laptop volume cranked up all the way to hear it in my headphones
-needs more variation in the bass run once its a stronger sound
-needs some midrange ambience or fx fills in the main riff if you dont want to change the bass melody line
-if you're not wanting to change much or add anything, the length could basically be cut in half

overall:
-good little shuffle track, would get my feet doing very strange things at the club, but would be very tedious if the bass line stays the way it is.. i would mix this as a pretrack or some sort of build for another track in the same key.. with a stronger bass it could be quite punchy tho!

much love :w: :w:

Miniweapon - "Digitalism-Magnets(miniweaponRMX)"

props:
+great unique pick for a remix song! well done on selection
+kept the gritty electro feel of digit alive, bouncy and fun
+punchy
+great electro flow
+interesting drum FX

advice:
-intro snare roll (@0:07) seems way to hot in the mix, really loud then seems to die down once the rest comes in, but quite headache inducing if you have the volume cranked to hear the song
-you introduce ideas, then break into beat grooves, which is authentic electro style... however it seems very either/or... i'd love to see those chopped vocals thrown into the breaks
-also, the reintroduction of the vocal ideas are a tad long, for my taste.. could either get switched up after the main intro or better (more chaotic electro style) programming in the breaks to spice it up and not sound too much like a loop
-breaks are for sure the best part, definitely want to emphasize them

overall:
=stand up track!! definitely something to play when you want the party to keep going... keep the digitalism/daft punk kinda vibe alive, and is very close to not sounding repetitive.. just a little more work on the vocoder based parts (maybe even just shortening them or spicing up the programming) and this is ready to blast heads and spill pretty girls drinks at the club!

much love :w:

Jsaxton - "Unfinished Business"

props:
+oo, can tell this is a 320! super crisp, mastered propa
+was literally on the edge of my seat anticipating the beat to come in, you know how to get a bruvs ears up
+samples are well placed
+good grief, super intense break! think i should report you to someone for torturing those synths
+haha that panning (@1:43) would probably make people fall over at the club
+synths sound like Jax from mortal kombat trying to stop a diamond tipped buzzsaw with his metal arms
+variation. epic. glad i dont have to sound like a broken record

advice:
-main synth is... well.. *takes deep breath*.. almost too intense. could be slightly headache inducing when played over the big club speakers.
-really, im a fan of the brutalness, usually the more brutal the better, but this one is only for the headz out there, would use this as a shock piece for those producers who think their synths are nasty... wouldnt introduce someone to the genre or open a set with this one
-would love to hear more of that deep roaring synth that comes and goes
-really not much else to say, you're pro

overall:
=well, wow. this song really explains itself. i could see one of my friends running up to me telling me to check this out because it would make my sister and all her in-laws pass out as soon as the drop comes in. really a step in a new direction.. just not sure what the reaction of the general public would be. would probably be begging for earplugs halfway through this one... so biggups on making knell wuss out :n:

much love :w:

@Knell jah robot.

Seeing as you have reviewed some of mine I'll repay ya :D

Liked the lead, but would of liked a bit more suspense to it like when you just cant wait for the drop but thats just personal preference. Liked the bass sounds especially on the second drop.

There was like a orchestral type sample that distracted me in the part after the break (119 seconds - when the sample stopped) but maybe i notice things to much.

Liked the grimey feel i love a bit of dark feeling and it was deffinatly a head nodder

Big up man
