@JTL -
Ughhhhh this groove is so sexy... I want to have sex to this... Main thing I'd say is turn the vocals WAAAAAAAY down. The song grooves too hard to have those at the foreground. Mix it in more, and turn it down, and take away some of the 80-100hz, it's overpowering the sub synth.

@ Mammoth : 1st part of intro is pretty good, the second part is... not matching actually. The last part is pretty good, mixdown is correct, and the sub is fine but a bit too quiet to me.
@ jrisreal : Self mastering is not a good idea. Just my 2cent.
@ JTL : First of all : Nice vocals, you're a good singer. The sub is awesome, pads and synths are 80's style that i like. Drums are fine, but the snare is just a bit too low to me. Mixdown is alright. Good tune, really.
@ Globalz : Piano, strings... Good
A few things no perfect but it's decent : Your Sub is needs more volume, and your kick needs a bit more EQ on the Hi. Nice melody on the keys. Nice tune.
@ Audiosoma : This is a nice tune, bassline is nice, drums are well processed, and i like the synths/leads. A bit repetitive. Good job.
Here's mine, deep & chill : Soundcloud

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
first post after lurking for a while. thought it was time to get involved.
@Darj - very nice sounding mix and a great sub you got going there.
just could do with a little more variation in the track? maybe chuck in a key change.
loving it otherwise. chilllled
@Mammoth - nice tune overall. good use of pitch shifting.
thought the drums maybe a little quiet at the end?
and yeah the sub could be a bit louder too.
@Jrisreal - in terms of the mastering attempt, i thought it was wicked. certainly beefs up the track
and i like the tune in your sig as well. the piano is awesome, as well as the hi-passed strings
reckon a chilled/deep beat in there would be banging
@JTL - very nice intro and loving the 80's feel.
reminds me a little of james blake when you bring in the harmonising vocals which is a big compliment
keep at it
@Globalz - cool spooky feel.
the only thing id say is that you could do with a variation in the growling synth.
then it would be tight.
@-Audiosoma- - loving the style of this track
very nice atmospheric pads
i think that the wobble would sound so much better if you had some slight changes in the lfo rate? maybe putting in some triplets
and i would love some feedback on my tune as well if anyone has a chance
cheers

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@freakquency : Intro is a little bland, you could do more with it, and also during the intro i dont like the sound of that kick drum. Drop is pretty good, i like the tune. The bass and sub sound a little loud and overpowering through my speakers. More so the sub, perhaps bring it down a little bit its overriding everything else. Hats could go down a db or two as well. Keep it up.
@Darj: Perucussion in intro is good, i'm not really feeling the tune that the pad is playing. Sounds a bit naff. I like the drop, the sub sounds good to me and the percussion is excellent along with the background atmospheric noises. Im enjoying this at 1:43. @2.05 here comes that pad again, i really hate the notes which it is playing for some reason! Second drop is good, i like that high noise you bring in briefly at 3.04, you could develop that more. I have a good idea in my mind of how id like it to sound but i really can't explain it so i'll leave it with you. Pretty good tune overall, only thing i really have beef is with that pad!! But that's just my opinion
@mammoth: Bit cheesy but i won't hold that against you. Not sure on the main synth playing that tune though, I don't really like it. Sub bass sounds okay, volume is fine. Fuarrrk the 2nd drop is about a million times better than the first. Its like a different tune. I'd honestly scrap that first part and have this as your first drop.
@jrisreal: The mastering is tinny imo, you really need to cut some of the higher frequencies out. Keep working at it i'm sure mastering takes years to (master).
Track in your sig is nice, did you compose it yourself? If so well done! Would turn the high strings down a bit though but that's just me.
Track is in my sig, it seemed to miss feedback last time i posted it cos it was at the end of a page, so I'm posting again for any other pointers I can get to work in on a new similar-styled tune i'm currently working on.

I've got to say, I haven't been on DSF for 6 months. These WIPs are probably some of the best I've had the chance to review. Big ups
@darj
Real nice tune. Mix down sounds great at the drop. Really wish I had some good monitors to appreciate the bass.
@freakquency
Dang, this one is a deep one. I love chillin to this kind of music. Don't know if I'd spin this at a dance party, but its quality without a doubt.
@stranger_sounds
Dude, nice conga action. The hi hats are quality. I really like that eerie melody that starts at the intro and feeds through the song. Impressive progression. Really turned into an epic track!
@mammoth
Nice tune brah. I'm not biased towards brostep. I like brostep along the lines that you did. Not any heavy distorted bass. Good ol fashion BEEEWWWs do the soul well.

I don't like to think in terms of that first drop actually being a drop just an addition to the melodystranger_sounds wrote:@mammoth: Bit cheesy but i won't hold that against you. I agree it is tinny...too much high and it kinda hurts, I agree...and yeah you have to go to school for mastering to get it down right.stranger_sounds wrote:@jrisreal: The mastering is tinny imo, you really need to cut some of the higher frequencies out. and also agree on the strings, noticed when I played it in the car. and yes I composed it and played it out on the keyboard...thanks for the reply!
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Danimal: i like it for being a filth track. seems like you could work on EQing your high end stuff it started giving me a headache about 30 seconds in. i could see people goin apeshit to something like this in a club though.
@stranger_sounds: your drums are perfect. very crisp and interesting. i love how techy this is. reminds me of hecq. 2nd drop is pretty tight too without being too over the top. seems like you got a finished tune though. i cant think of anything i would do. then again youre way better than me.
@freakquensy: i like the snare a lot. i like darker dubstep so im probably gonna have some bias when listening. but uh the first drop i think that kick drum needs to stand out more. either use a heavier hitting one for those big drops or layer them up? also where were you going with those pads? they were pretty tight as you brought them in toward the end. if you bring them out more slowly and keep them in the mix thatd be sweet

@ frequency - darkness
I feel like this tune has a while to go. The notes are just rather predictable and plain. You need to make your chord progression more interesting or put some other synths to accent ur current notes...
@ bluntz - sloppy-option
this tune is well produced and I like it. everything comes through clean. To me, the bass could do a lot more. It is alright but it repeats instead of progressing and changing around/varying in some way. Drop an octave, play some sharp or flat notes, i donno it needs to do more though. The drums sound real clean and hit with a nice punch also.
@voodeedoo
Well I dont know how to say this in any nice way but, I hate your track. Sorry but its just very midrange cheese with nothing interesting and the wobble doesnt even sound good. The only thing I liked was near the end when you have the chords come in with the piano. That part was ok.
Heres a track of mine im working on. Feel free to say whatever you feel about it. And when I say that I mean it cause I hate how we all have this unspoken thing where people feel you have to only say "positive" things and ignore the flaws. I know my tracks have lots of flaws(feel free to point them out) and the whole goal is rounding those out nicely! Getting harshly criticized can do more for you than tons of false praise because someone wants to be "nice" by lying to you giving you false confidence. Thats what gets you stuck versus someone being honest and helping you grow. ANyways, small mini rant over... heres my tune

@ Danimal HEAVY man i love this!! lol you got some sick sounds keep up the great work
Came up with this today, i'm attempting to remix kavinskys - nightcall but these are all my sounds just wanted to know what you guys thought of it so far and how i could progress this song further to make a nice brostep song

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ Darj: not feeling the synth you’re using in the intro, no character to it. Reminds me of the water temple in Zelda. It is deep and I love that. I think your low end is spot on. Add some variation to the drums, subtle things. Also, nice hats bruv!
@freakuency: ha, when the bass dropped I was taken aback. In your breakdown section how about, idk, a break? That would be appreciated. All around feeling it though, keep it up.
@stranger_sounds: YES! This tune…… I can has 320?
@danimal: ur right, quality WIPs coming out of the woodwork of late (including yours). The sample is funny… but do you want funny?
@tripwire: repetitive no? I mean that comes with the deep territory (and yours b deep) but it just kinda plods along with no real progression. I’m not sure what I’d do to it though. The drums were interesting and the bass was dark. Try adding another element.
@baasDNB: I fucking hate your tune!
Jk. I quite liked it. There’s no ‘stepping’ going on though. The drums are way lost under there. It needs a healthy mixdown. If it were my track, I’d take the main synth you have going and sort of fade it in and out, get some motion on it and weave it in and out and let the drums smash it.
@swaggr: I’m a sucker for this sort of sound. I was dancing around in my room….
Sub please, and the your synth is too gritty for me
@zPCP: what would you like to do with the song? You’ll need to figure that out and then do it. Aimless ambience that doesn’t go anywhere or make me feel anything.

@Audiosoma
Yeah brother i like it,real chill vibe to it,and i really dig the sort of swingy sound it has.Sounds are real good did you do all the sound design yourself because its good some really good design in the track.I love tracks i can headnod to and yours is there.
@Brisance
Loving the minimalist sound,all the sounds really sit well together.That sub sounds fcking sick on my system.If i was to critique one thing probably the drums when the sub drops you could probably give a bit bit more clarity too,they just sound a bit muffled but overall i really feel it.
@Darj
Digging the dark deep style,love the atmosphere the track brings proper moody.Again another track where the subs just smashes my speakers.I like the overall mix all elements stand out nice,i think the clap could do with being a tad bit brighter but love it when it comes in with the reverb on sounds real good.
@Stranger_sounds
Love the percussive elements you have incorporated,they sound sick.The intro has a real haunting feeling going on and the sub is nice too on the drop.Also the vocal snipets you use are quality and a good use of effects with them too.Must say your drums are some of the best on this board again the percussion and highhats just sit really good in the mix so big yourself up quality track.
@Swaggr
The drums are really good,if you done the processing yourself they sound banging on my system.Also must say i like that almost acidhouse sounding synth line you used.Not really a fan of electro but really like the groove to this.
Again the mix sounds pretty nice all sounds sit pretty well but my favourite element is definitely the drums really thumping.Good effort.
Heres mine,arrangement is pretty much done,need to process drums and do some of overall sounds then focus on the mix.Any feedback would be greatly appreciated .

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@darj - really nice man. Love that reversed snare at some points, really fitting. You might want to look at the tonality of the introduction synths though - doesn't quite gel with the overall "deepness" of the tune. Sub is quite nice. Personally I'd ease off on the saturation just a bit on your sine wave, but that's a personal preference
synth that comes in around 1.50, can't say I agree with. Feels a bit too gritty and dirty for the tune. Also disagree with your point about self-mastering. Lots of producers do it. If you can get it sounding just as good as your favourite tune's mastering, then by all means. Even if you don't do it professionally, or someone else ends up doing it for you, it's worth at least learning what's involved so you can make your mixdowns better
@freakquency (cool name btw!) - I'd remove the low-passed aspect of the snare in the intro, it just makes it sound muddy and unclean. I feel like there's a bit too much reverb, whole tune seems to be swimming in it. Also check your ride pattern, even remove some reverb and/or remove some released on it. They go on a bit too long.
@stranger_sounds - gorgeous samples and drum pattern in that intro. Those chord stabs are also realllly nice. If anything, a little eq is needed with the snare and that stab, they seem to mask each other a little. Sub work is really nice. Nothing bad to say tbh, great arrangement and the tribal feel towards the end is a nice touch. Would love a 320 when this is complete
@danimal. Way, way, way, way too much reverb. Track loses any presence it might have because of all the reverb. Reduce everything back considerably, especially the drums. Change at around a minute ... I dunno. Track sounds confused.
@tripwire - Awesome drums in that intro. I feel like the overall bassline could do with a bit more presence... doesn't really feel like it goes anywhere. Really love that tribal sound you got going on. Snare fits perfectly imho.
@lloydy - the hard panning on some of those elements really fucks with the listener. I'd ease off it a bit, and just pan it slightly either side. Snare seems to have a bit too much high-end for the rest of the elements. Interesting concept, executed relatively well - and different which I always like
New one - not quite finished yet, few elements I need to work on, but about 95% done. Is getting a release so can't show full tune yet

Deep, dark, but energetic roller. Lemme know what yous think

@amphibian
Yeah i hear you on the hard panning,i only spent 8 hours on it so will edit some of it that sounds weird but i like it in some parts of the track.Also the snare does have too much high but i haven't done any eq/mixing to the track yet so i will get to this.
Your track i really enjoyed,the dub sounding bass you used is awesome.is it a sample or did you create it yourself?
I love the intro and the plucky lead you used sets a really good ambience.Good use of delay with the lead sound too very dreamy.Overall all the sounds sit well together,the only complaint i have is you won't upload the full version how dare you lol.
Yeah i hear you on the hard panning,i only spent 8 hours on it so will edit some of it that sounds weird but i like it in some parts of the track.Also the snare does have too much high but i haven't done any eq/mixing to the track yet so i will get to this.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
All good - a little panning always sits well, gives a nice sense of space. The only things you want panned really hard, are random incidentals that might only appear a couple of times in the track. When you have something hitting so often panned so hard, it can be disorientinglloydy wrote:@amphibian

Cheers for the input! Bass sound is cut up from the original track, as is the intro, also cut up quite a bit

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
it's brostep , good luck. lol
Couple of things - lots of the elements are out of tune with each other. Tonality of synthesis generally doesn't fit together - drum sample usage need work - and this all only comes with practise.
You're new - it'll come in time
