Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
*stretches arms and back* good mooooorning all... lets get some reviews goin on this splendid saturday, shall we?
DJ Loki - "Nasty Fokuz"
props:
+first song i've listened to so far today, and i'm glad, this is a dreamer
+heavy bass, works well to bump this track along
+(2:19) blip gate sounding things add the perfect ambience, definitely the highlight of the song for me
+drums are cleverly programmed, busy but staggered, just the way i like 'em
+lots of tasty little noises for my ears to chew on while the beat flows along
advice:
-hmm. would definitely have to work on mixing this to use it live. the 6:38 length is a little draggy, and really not sure what would happen to the crowd during the breakdown (3:57-4:52)... its almost a minute of very low ambience until the buildup, which works great as a dream track for those lying on their beds with headphones on, but for a live setting you would probably want to edit this down a bit.
-everything seemed a little low in the mix, not sure if thats what you were going for or not but i had my laptop volume cranked pretty high
-such a sweet, heavy, dreamy song.. which just makes me scratch my head at the title. not knocking it at all, just confused
-some of the whistle/screamy sample seems out of place when used back to back, you have plenty of interesting noises to alternate between
overall:
=really a sweet little ambient track, everything is well done! kept me interested the entire time with awesome drum patterns and little samples... so really its great as it is for a break in a heavy album or something... would only need a little time-based editing and maybe a touch of mastering to really make the track jump to life and not sound really low, in order to be used live
well done! much love

Andy Velocity - "Home"mrnickless wrote:http://www.myspace.com/mfbigav check em out
props:
+jumpy feel to the track give it a marching, psychedelic feel
+arp synth is tasty and organic sounding
+glad you switched the melody/timing every now and then to keep it interesting
+occasional half time feel is well done
+reesey synth layered on the arp synth gives a great feel
advice:
-eh, the only real issue i have with this track is the drumline. the samples sound quite dry, and "preset" sounding, and the programming is a little uninspired
-the melody feels rinsed after 3-4 minutes of being looped
-that being said, needs a little more flow, like a couple (short) breakdowns to cleanse the palate a bit to make the melody punch a little more and not seemed looped
-a few surprises or samples or a portamento'd slide synth would destroy faces in this track
overall:
=reminds me of one of those tracks that would play during a crazy visualizer video on youtube... quite trance and progressive, but that melody needs to be broken up occasionally or Freq'ed/EQed to keep the song moving and not seem like a loop with different instruments coming in on the same notes
hope this helps, much love

overall:

Thierry le DJ - "MonDazed"thierry_le_dj wrote:Soundcloud
I just finish re editing this track!
see what you think .:Mon-Dazed:.
props:
+that reverb on the snare makes it MASSIVE
+crisp, standard TlD
+that silent break (0:59) had me making sure soundcloud hadnt corrupted or something

+that bass that comes in sounds.... well... perfect haha
+blip gates add nice ambience, which is usually lost in most drum and bass only tracks...
advice:
-the main riff after the drop (1:01-3:33) is... well, as the time stamp indicates, over two and a half minutes long, which, for me... even with a perfect synth, no amount of variation in automation or drum switchups could prevent the riff from sounding rinsed by the end of that line, without a pause or sub-break or something to break the redundancy
-second drop/riff (3:46) kinda comes out of nowhere with no real build, might want to cut the bass down a tad in the mix if you want to keep it like this to give it a little more build and flow
-automation sounds slightly out of time at some points, but i may just be going crazy
-the second riff has none of that wonderful bass drum until (4:41), where it cuts back to being in full force... i think even the occasional hit (perhaps at the start of each measure starting at (4:07+)) would help increase the build of that second riff
-drum only outro is long if you want to keep it drum-only, unless you did that for mixing purposes, which i totally understand.. but as an album track it'd be great to hear that synth come back it all glitchy in the outro, like its fighting to stay alive
overall:
=this track is a great mix of dubstep with some trance-y elements thrown in, i thoroughly enjoyed it! especially that main synth... i think an octave jump or some sort of ending to each measure (aside from automation) would really spice it up, unless you're going for the full on trance vibe. great work on the edit, you pulled this track off really well. i'm definitely curious as to how you made that synth! sounds standard but i can never really get the same kinda growl out of Reason4...
much love

Im gunna stop making beats for a while and concentrate on learning the theory a bit more so this is my last 1 for a while.
I will however stil lpost feedback as I am being enlightened to different styles of dubstep id never usually listened to so is making my tastes more diverse
Cheers
props:
+intro with the orchestra samples is intense! like running away from a serial killer kinda intense... almost drags but you break it down at exactly the right time
+"okay, bend over!"

+breakdown subtractive synth is tweety but brutal
+(2:21) that explosion is a great touch for a break, makes it hit oh so lovely hard
+gives me that caspa/rusko "hammertime" kinda feeling
advice:
-hmm. you definitely have a lot of frequencies fighting against each other here, which makes the drums (especially the high ends) almost inaudible after the first drop due to band overlap. definitely EQ the synth or the drums to the point where they dont fight for the same freq ranges...
-mess around with build sounds like (2:12) and tweak the "bend over!" sample (pitch play or chop it up a bit) to give more surprise to the drops
-might not want to put breaks in mid-melody (1:11) unless you're tryin to really catch people off guard
overall:
=the oldschool vibe of this track blows me away, clever subtractive synthing, would definitely drop this to boggle some brains at the club. just work on the EQ and its instant banger!!!!

Thanks for the feedback Knell!!!
Yeah this appears to be my problem at the mo eqing and freq work. Thats why im gunna read and research alot on the theory of music production for a while to understand it fully. I know where im going wrong but translating that to the screen is my main issue.
Thought you would like that vox sample haha ok......... bend over haha
I put that break it cos i didnt want it to be predictable its sorta where i can imaging people raving on it the break comes in and there like wtf get confused whilst on whatever substance they may have consumed and when it comes back in again they feel warmth again haha
Also loving the shout out on the myspace mr knell props for that

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
the big lp - unfinnished symphony
quite big, nice and chillaxing
id probably have some variation with the bassline on the second drop, keep it interesting etc. well done though
loki - nasti fokuz
again nice and laid back, drums are tight as fuck, and the bassline is tied in well to everything. cant really fault it really.
thierry le dj - mondazed
bassline is absolutely heavy, the intro sounda a little dull, id probably be tempted to throw in some head nodding melodies but thats me, the quality of the drums makes up it. big track
ltuk - impass
absolutely huge, dno where you got that piano sample from (thats if it is one) but it sound sicks. the thunder & lightening sounds you drop in every so often is massive also. love the strings that come in @ 3.13 aswell, big up.
oh yeah and heres an updated version of what i posted beforehand, tell us how it sounds

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
i normally stray from WIPs, because i can write on them all day with suggestions, but ill tackle this one and try to be brief but thorough
(The Big) LP - "Unfinished Symphony(1)"
props:
+intro is in the "early stages" of being epic and dreamy
+synth that comes in @(1:26)... YEEEESSSS!!!
+(2:17) yaaaay, sweep synths done so well, awesome break in the song
+(2:45) WONDERFUL bass-into-drop effect
+had me almost swingin my head around
advice:
-was looking for a stronger thump from the bass drum, but i doubt i could ever be happy with anyones kickDrum unless its made from white noise and sine waves and is practically clipping

-(1:26) synth... would destroy me if it was louder in the mix and used more frequently
-actually, just about everything (esp the drums) could be louder and more pronounced in this track.. but i assume you'll take care of that during mastering
overall:
=really impressed! dreamy and dirty... has all the right stuff... melody, flow, and sweeeeet synths (esp that (2:45) bass) ...once your mix is up to par it'll definitely be a groover for sure, keep us posted

just kidding, ill stop being a looney now
LTUK (Rubber) - "Impass"
props:
+intro drums and ambience set the mood BRILLIANTLY
+Guitar-ish melody / Piano melody are VeRy well done... juuuust the right amount of reverb
+love the way the piano accents the guitar line, well written..
+holy snap! is that a thunder sample (@0:28)? talk about mood enhancement
+nice switchup of the melody in the second riff
advice:
-second drop could be much more pronounced, with a shorter break, to really add punch to ambience
-not really dubstep at all... BUT! thats not a bad thing.. just pointing it out..
-ambience is killer, but would love to hear a really good piano solo somewhere in the third drop.. maybe bring in someone who is supremely talented on the keys and get them to take your melody and run with it..
-needs some stronger, maybe even slow oscillating sub-bass, most definitely
-snare could use *slightly* more punch and drive
overall:
=so, this one is a dreamer, for sure... strange that i found it on this forum, but refreshing to hear new things, i truly love all music! once the bump end of the drum is punchier, maybe with some clever high hats, this could even be a swayer at the club, with people holding each others shoulders in sheer intoxicated splendor!!! biggup

00:07: Had to jump up and turn that sht DOWN!! How the fk did u get it so LOUD?? Props on the comp +EQs
00:32 to 00:35: Your masterstroke! It's like, u saw a hazard up ahead, dropped down a gear, started to brake, but then u think fk-it and go straight up to 3rd and hit the gas and... erm yes mate, spot on
00:55 subtle variation in vibe got it just right so no-ones bored but keeps the flo intact
01:04 + 02:34: the only room for improvement i can think of is u could vibe out more here - suspect u spent more time on yr hard noises than yr soft ones?? (but the world is a better and a more noisier place because u did: yr hard noises are LARGE)
01:35: round the circle, everyone satisfied, u came back CORRECT
02:03: next level
03:12 crisp ending, what can i say, large tune, u deserve to feel good about it, enjoy yr wknd
PS still aint opened yr goodybag yet, i can feel an allnighter coming on...
