I saw this the other day -

Apparently everywhere else it was called Ghost Writer. Apparently the marketing company thought only brits would get it :?

Anyway, this follows Pierce Brosnan playing essentially current day Tony Blair publishing his memoirs, so it couldn't be fresher. Ewan McGregor plays the ghost of the title, hired by the ex prime minister to make the book come together. He's the second ghost though, the first comitted suicide in mysterious circumstances. Bit of political thriller, but not too heavy, it's quite enjoyable. Only thing that put me off was Ewan McGregor's weird accent. Dunno why he just didn't use his normal voice.

I think this is actually the first Polanski film I've seen without looking up his filmography, based on this I want to check out more.

Yeah. It's not that good. The opening scene is awful. Pretentious, dull and overly stylised. It's like watching an aftershave advert. From that point until the infamous masturbation scene, it was actually quite good. Well acted, stunning cinematography and a real sense of anticipation. The scenes with Gainsbourg picturing herself in the woods were particularly impressive.

Sadly, it soon descends into tedious, predictable territory. Dafoe dragging himself through the woods with a stone bolted through his leg whilst a frantic Gainsbourg pursues him, screeching and yelling, was just ridiculous and a real bore to watch. The film had potential but was let down by some tacky moments ("Chaos reigns") and a generic second half.

The violence isn't particularly shocking and shouldn't be the main talking point of this film as it takes up very little screen time. However, there isn't much else to discuss once you get past the first half. What starts out as an intense and well crafted psychological drama, quickly becomes a disappointing horror film.

i dunno if it's a real flower or if it's a symbol for a specific entheogen or if it's a symbol for entheogens in general but it is definitely entheogenic.
