AAaaaand culturally, Americans tend to embrace more aggressive music over emotional music.

Alright, some examples of American pop music's aggressive undertones are the "gangster" rap scene that's all about killing and hustling, the rock scene which is gruff yelling on droning chords, every style of music ending in "core", screamo, and brostep.
The only exceptions are "breakup music", country twang, and DISNEYCORE.

yeah well we also STARTED hip hop, before gangster rap, gangster rap was just an evolution of it
also, the uk hip hop/grime scene has a lot of similar agressive lyrics for the record

yeah also rock has a lot of its roots here, and yeah we have metal but so does the uk and germany and wherever the fuck else

you're picking out certain parts of genres but overlooking that those parts exist everywhere else and also in america for every agressive part of a genre there is another less agressive aspect of it

so no, the statement about america being more attracted to agressive music is completely false

I'm chatting pop music here, what the masses listen to.
Yeah, grime's lyrics are pretty aggressive at times but grime beats are still less aggro than the American trap beats. Besides, Grime and UK Rap aren't nearly as popular in England as gangster rap is in America.

honestly, most of the "rap" you hear in american pop music today is about sex

and the rest of the pop is about dancing and love

I see no agression in that

so, again, american pop music is ALSO not a mainly agressive field

I see what you're saying, but you're not disproving my point. Lil Wayne's the top grossing musician in America atm, his music's about shooting guns and loads. That's aggressive. Therein lies my point.

Dance music has been looked down upon in America by rock and rap fans for years, I guess being labelled "pussy European shit." Not to mention that Detroit techno, Chicago house and such were popular in gay culture. There's a preoccupation with masculinity and toughness in America that's less prevalent in Europe. 'EDM' (fuck that name) didn't really become a thing in the US til it got more aggressive and mosh-able. I'd link you an article i read on this Sonika but I have no clue how to find it lol

Regardless of where it started in the world (that's debatable), in America it started in predominantly gay subcultures. And we all know how the average American bro feels about anything gay...

You're taking a very all-or-nothing approach to this, Sonika. Just because we're saying general things about large portions of the American population doesn't mean we're speaking for every single American. Of course there's gonna be underground movements and people going against the grain, but we're talking about the explosion in popularity of brostep, so underground is irrelevant.

Hi!

Really glad to have finally joined this board, the production bible is awesome (thanks!) and it's high time I started learning the technical side of my art.
