Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
I thought I might post my little theory of things, which is basically that we sentient beings are the fundamental particles and probability waves that make up the 7th dimension, and how our universe is just a gigantic mind. Without expanding too much I believe that as has been demonstrated to by the electron slit experiment, all possible outcomes exist until you actually take an action, then they only become visible to us in this dimension. I also think we don't have an infinite amount of choices (unless you are insane) and you will logically only make a choice guided by your intellect, intuition or instinct, or a combination of any.
I think with all the potential posiblities in someone's life (basically your alternate selves), there's going to come a point, possibly more than one, where no matter what you do you do you cannot escape death, you'll die at exactly the same point, so even if there is a division of selves made by differing choices, they'll curve back and meet at the same point, and that will be a particle represented in the 7th dimension, which logically seems to be the next plane of existence. But the version of yourself that's stored won't necessarily be you, it will be the version of you, who makes the "best" choices. I also reckon there are points in our lives where branches of our selves may be led back to the same point, and those are like "Buddhas". I think they'll be kind of the equivalent of the energy wave particles which are here. They'll be able to pass between the different particles absorbing information about all those alternate 3rd dimensions. And I think that pretty much sums the limit of our existence.

So basically in n alternate reality there'll be another version of Maddie McCann that lives till like 80/90 or whenever she has an inevitable death, and that version will be the one stored, but fragments of the other Maddie McCanns may exist as well through other people's recollections.

Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
I watched the clip, I read the thread, my mind was blown. So, I got drunk while watchingBack To The Future
I get it!
No I don't.. McFly doesn't either. I'm going to bed.
I get that I don't get it. Progress.

Choose everyday, all of the time.
Be a conscious dreamer...
Hopefully your choices will be guided by love.

also, love this thread
Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
been reading 'the grand design' by hawking and mlodnow this week - it's a good read if you want an accessible overview of the scientific establishment's view.
i love this stuff, because it has ideas that are a springboard for your imagination to fly free.
i.e. - M-theory allows for "10 to the power 500 universes, each with different laws, only one of which corresponds to the universe as we know it".
unfortunately this suggests that there is a universe where music doesn't exist, but another where i am godlike...(and another where parson has never NOT made sense)

Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
^I've been wanting to read that. A Brief History of Time was a turning point in my life. I'm getting through Feynman's Lectures on Physics now. I'm doing alright but I only manage about a section a week.
Anyway, I understand the video was only a thought experiment.
It's made me very curious about a more 'proper' way to think about the ten dimensions.
I found this..

Haven't watched it yet. I will and then get back.
I have other things to do after I make a post somewhere on here that's actually about dubstep to balance these others out.

Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
I've just had a quick peek at the beginning - I'm impressed that Alien Pimp was so off the wall he managed to get Parson being the voice of conventional scientific consensus. That's like getting Hitler to tell you to back off with the racist shit...
Also, FWIW, pretty much by its own admission the video in the OP has nothing to do with string theory. It's an interesting way of interpreting various concepts in terms of higher dimensions, but it's not the way that string theory uses higher dimensions.
