Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Sorry man I don't mean to be rude, but that sounds like a wobble with a sccream filter.
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Yeah sorry if I wasn't really clear, I know pretty much how to achieve rich harmonic sounds/formants etc. What I want to know is how you guys get movement/vowel sounds. Do you automate in the synth, - for example automating FM values etc, really what I'm looking for here is FM specific techniques or if the solo purpose of FM is get a 'better' dry sound to process in which case I'm not really interested as I'm having no problem achieving that as it is right now - or just your standard post-processing EQ automation/bandreject etc (which I am more than familiar with).
God, horrible sentence structure but I'm at work atm and cba phrasing myself better. My point is I'm no rookie.

seriously man! formant and a sine wave and eq automation, or a couple double notch filters and you'll be vowely in no time

Seriously, is there not a way we can restrict people from posting in the production thread until they have like 50 posts or something. Loads of these threads including the WIP thread just get filled with people who aren't willing to offer any insight and just want to shit on other people.
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Seriously man! Are you not reading what I'm saying? I know how to growl and pretty well at that. That's not what I'm looking for, what I'm asking is, once again, if you guys get vowel and movements using purely FM controls. What I want to know, basically, is can you achieve automated vowel sounds by automating FM and no external effects? Otherwise the whole point of FM synthesis is pretty pointless for growls as you might as well have made the signal in any other synth as well. I know about EQ automation and bandrejects like I said already, that's not the technique I'm interested in right now. There's a lot of people in this forum getting annoyed with your attitude. I get you're probably trying to help and that's cool, but you're coming off a bit arrogant. Not trying to be an asshole here but put some more though into your posts or something man.DefeaterDub wrote:seriously man! formant and a sine wave and eq automation, or a couple double notch filters and you'll be vowely in no time

Please tell me more about how shit it was. I would really like to hear from a member of your stature who has posted 12 times here in the past year.DefeaterDub wrote:If someone hasn't told you yet, that tutorial was shit.RandoRando wrote: check my fm growl tutorial in page 8 of this thread

And btw, Rando, sorry for kinda ignoring your post there, at work atm so can't really look at any video tuts anyway. Also I kinda dislike them since they're usally not really explanatory, "more turn x to y ??????? profit". Not saying your is as I haven't seen it, but it seems like youtube tutorials in general are the go-to learning tool for 14 y-o ADD kids who don't have the patience to learn things the proper way. I'll make sure to check it out later though!
(And sorry if this post was offensive, like I said not directed to you. Just a small rant at the state of todays society)

Sorry Rando, I was in a bad mad mood last night, and found that what you posted had no more relevance than mine.RandoRando wrote:hah i know what you mean ^^ all kids wanna be spoon fed this stuff
Mexaan, also, I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking! I also only understand how to get basic growls out of fm8.
Everything else that I do is post processing. Seriously sorry guys! Did not want to get off to a bad start in here.

Could one of you shed some light in how you achieve the growls in FM? I'm pretty well versed in sound design and processing otherwise, just curious on whether you just use the FM to get a gnarly sound and then filter and process as usual or if there's some untapped potential in automating the FM or something thats otherwise unique to FM synthesis.

That's why I'm posting in this thread. Here's my growl bass. It replicated the one found in Knife Party's tune Centipede.MassAphekt wrote:let's see you make a better tutorialDefeaterDub wrote:If someone hasn't told you yet, that tutorial was shit.RandoRando wrote:check my fm growl tutorial in page 8 of this threadMaxxan wrote:Hey guys, only recently bought FM8 (also got sytrus) so I'm pretty new to the concept of FM but I understand the idea behind it.
