I make two channels and put three kicks on the first one. I decide to move the second kick to the second channel and 50% of the time the moved kick will not play for a short amount of time (I've looped a small region), while the other 50% it will play as if it is duplicated on both channels and distort.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I find this odd, is it just me or is it the way the DAW works?

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Are the kicks perfectly aligned, eg exact same phase?
The doubling of volume/distortion is normal in any audio app when two perfectly aligned samples are played simultaneously.
Not sure about the sample not playing... Are the samples at the very first part of the track 0.00s - 0.1s? If so, I've had this problem in both Reaper and Cubase. Never figured out why it was doing this, but moving the samples in by a bar solved the problem for me in both cases.

Yeah, I'd really like a few opinions on this...sackley wrote:Don't know. I can't think of anything to fix that... anyone?Hey guys, I'm having a really weird problem with Reaper. I'm trying to render a song, but it's just getting half way, then the music quickly fades and the rest of the recording is silence. I know it's not an accidental volume automation or any, I can listen to the whole thing in the daw. I also have the render time set up right and everything. It does the same thing in playback sometimes, it cuts out if I just let it play for a while.
Does anyone know what could possibly be happening?
It's only this song too, I just rendered a few other with no problems.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Are you sure there is no hidden automation or automation on the master track?
Also check whether any controls are being modulated by an LFO or other envelope by accident.
Check the midi assignments on any physical controllers you have. Perhaps playing back the track with one of the physical controllers set to 1 changes a software parameter somewhere thus leading to a different rendering than if the control was set to 0?
All else failing, try recreating the project in a new blank document... PITA fo sho, but if the track is worth perservering with, this is the kind of shit that comes up in all DAWs from time to time.....

I've checked all the tracks for unwanted automation, nothing.
I'm not using any external controllers at the moment.
Thanks, I'll try this is nothing else works.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I don't think you understood me. I was just moving the kick, not copying it. And directly after the move, the above stated happens for a short amount of time.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
whats the simplest way to split freq in reaper anyone got a guide or tutorial
Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Say you'd like to split a bass into low, mid and high...sixth sense wrote:whats the simplest way to split freq in reaper anyone got a guide or tutorial
1. Create three tracks in addition to the track with the bass and label them "low", "mid" and "high" respectively.
2. Put filters on those three tracks and adjust them to your liking.
3. Send the bass to all the three of those tracks.
4. In the i/o window of your bass track, untick "master/parent send".
Yep. That should get you started.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
yeah I knew it was something like that what freq are your 3 filters set at usually
Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
sackley wrote:Yep, that's how I split my sounds.
Track 1 = synth -> JS Splitter
- i/o; # channels = 6; send 1/2 to track 2, 3/4 to track 3, 5/6 to track 4
Track 2 = Lows - Usu no FX...
Track 3 = Mids - FX
Track 4 = Highs - FX
Track 5 = JS Joiner - FX
-i/o; Recieves from tracks 2,3,4
Routing Matrix - turn off master sends for tracks 1-4
Then you can generally record onto track 1 as midi, tweak the sound, fix the notes, whatever. Then change the record setting on track 5 to Record Stereo Output and bounce to audio by arming track 5 and disarming track 1 and playing the synth section through.
Still can't make any good sounds, but that's generally how i split tracks...
<Reaper3
From earlier in the thread. I still don't get why people hassle w/ filters instead of this option....you can skip track 5 and just turn off the parent send of track 1. And, if you like, can only split it into lows and highs by not routing one of the 3 bands.

Can you not figure that out yourself?sixth sense wrote:yeah I knew it was something like that what freq are your 3 filters set at usually

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
what audio editors are you guys using?
I'm trying to think of the best editor for my work flow, last time I tried Audacity I felt it cramped my productivity level(that could just be because I didn't know the ins and outs)..
BUT.. I'm in need of an external editor.. I like to manually place my drum hits and lately I've been needing to pitch shift certain hits, but haven't found a convient way of doing so. I don't need anything too in depth(at least not as of now)
I just want to:
double click, and let reaper open it in the external editor
do my changes, envelopes, pitch etc.
then export it right back into reaper
..if i remember correctly, last time I used audacity I had to go digging through folders to find the new edited version of the clip I was using(probably just my fault tho for not selecting a convenient folder to save it in)
IS there a program that will just insert the clip directly back to where it was in reaper after editing?

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I've set it up so I can do destructive editing directly in Reaper. See the very first post of this thread for some ideas.
Otherwise set your external editor in the bottom tab of the preferences window. Next check through the editing behaviour tabs for options and related to copying files to your project folder and editing etc. If I recall correctly, if you double click a file to be edited in an external editor, once oyu save the file in the external editor, the new file will load itself into Reaper replacing the orginal file.
additional options regarding editing may be available in the items properties window as well, can't remember off the top of my head. Select an audio file in the sequencer and press F2 to check..
