i know it's a new technology, but god it takes no skill compared.
Feeling like this recently. I hate watching streams of DJs and its 90% them staring at a laptop screen.. I know its about the music but when its being streamed I really enjoy watching vinyl DJs spin.

Watching the screen throughout a mix :a:

I feel the exact same way how there is more physical interaction while mixing and it's harder.

i know people who can't mix if the bpm that serato comes up with is wrong, even if it's like 20 bpm out they'll still match them up and try and mix

Yeah I bet theres a lot of that going on.. its not even that though, its just annoying seeing someone who can mix by ear have a bit of a shit mix and instinctively look at the laptop to see why the mix sounds out. I'd much rather watch someone do a shit mix but tried to fix it by ear than someone who stares at the screen and quickly adjusts accordingly. Stabilisers of mixing.

haha exactly this! clanging a mix and looking at the screen confused when the two records are totally out of time is a pet peeve.

i'll admit i'll take the odd visual cue off the screen to get phrasing right but i could definitely play a set with my laptop behind me if i needed to

yeah theres nothing wrong with peeking at it every once in a while. the bpm/pitch% is a really useful tool when you're doing a promo mix or something.

when i play out though, i dont really care about that shit as much

Yeah nothing against Serato or having a little peak.. but starring at the laptop while you bring the next tune in EVERYTIME, why bother using headphones.
