YO! that's HOTTTT!
the ONLY thing i'd have to say is maybe turn up the samples you're using in your breakdowns by a LITTLE bit. see how that works.

otherwise, the tune really does it for me. i'd love to get a copy if it's possible :)

what daw r u using?
thanks, man! a 320 of the track is downloadable from the soundcloud link. agreed regarding volume of samples, i'll fix that. i'm using ableton 8. key vsts on this track are are massive, fm8, camelcrusher and sugarbytes wow.

name your two tracks and I can review them tomorrow.

Um. I don't have much online, I put the sketchy-frame work of a song up a few posts ago, but it needs bass and probably a new drum part.

This one I haven't worked on in awhile so I'm calling it "done", but it could use something. Still a catchy little song for me for some reason..
Soundcloud
thanks, man!

re: stained sheets

pros:
- definitely had me nodding my head :5:
- nice haunting sounds in the intro
- i really like the riff that comes in at 0:52, very catchy
- crispy beats, dude
- are those F1 race cars at 1:17? or maybe angry bees? in any case, great incorporation of samples, very smooth

cons:
snare sounds slightly thin, maybe layer with white noise and / or clap and then compress?

More "drumstep" (eek, sub genre names have a way of making me cringe)...

Not sure if I should go down the wobble path on Antenna... bit too cracked out?

Love the percussion and how it builds up... that bass is pretty sick but begins to grate on me quickly (don't take my word for it tho, I don't really listen to much mid range ). I do like the breakdown later on, all the samples keep it interesting.

Solid percussion, I'd avoid tainting it with an overpowering wobble atleast.

...and this one which is less hype...
Soundcloud
Nice vibe about it, possibly the "space" pad can hit a little to high on the low end at points.

Thought Id try and break the mould a little and create a track where things can breathe.

It's just an idea at the moment, no fx, no mixing, things are probably peaking all over the place.

Tryig to get a more swung rhythm going also, possibly failing.

Nice orchestral stuff... obv sounds a bit simple atm without any fx. Can imagine with some nice reverbs (maybe even some heavily reverbed choir bits) it'll sound nice. Drums on the second drop were tasty.

Nice. Definitely has the right "vibes" and "feel," which is so important for dubstep. The wobble is sick, and it works with the track, but it's very repetative by the end. Why not write a longer melody for the wobble and slowly develop into it? Drums are perfect, don't fuck with them. Overall the track is also pretty well mixed, so I wouldn't fuck too much with the levels either. Just give it a bit more movement, so it sounds less like an awesome 60-second vibe and more like a full 5-minute track. Maybe take the wobbles out and bring them back in? Maybe more force on the drop, with an agressive synth line or something? Maybe more spaceman beeps near the end?

...and this one which is less hype...
Soundcloud
This is sick. Reminds me a lot of Zomby, but less abrasive, which is a good thing. Same basic comments apply to this one: drums are great, very well mixed, mastering is good as well, though I agree that the "space pad" has moments where it overpowers the mix. If you're automating the volume, maybe make the peaks a little bit lower? This track may be "less hype" but it has more development than Antenna, which is good-- I like the variety of sounds and samples, and the reverb work is fantastic. It could still do with being a little bit stronger at the end of the track, which sounds too much like the beginning of the drop. I would suggest adding in an agressive hi-hat pattern or maybe a stronger synth halfway through the drop to give it more force. Again, nothing overpowering, as the mix is great, but enough to add a bit more momentum to the track.

Hope all this babbling makes sense.

So yeah, if the above message isn't painfully obvious, I'm going through a phase where I'm obessessed with track progression. The challenge I set out for myself with this track was to have it start out like an "ambient" or "liquid" track and by the end have it develop into more of a banger. I think I've mostly achieved that, if nothing else. I'm extremely lazy at mastering so keep in mind that the mix-down and mastering are not final, but if you give me any tips on that I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, and the sample is an old interview with Peter Tosh, warped, screwed and pitch-shifted, and the voice saying "The Drug" is off an old news program on the evils of rave, ran through about 6 plugins, including reverb and distortion, and the echo is automated to cut out when the drop hits. Also this will be on the Into the Aether EP, along with Cowgate (on my sig) and a few other tracks that haven't been finalised yet. Aiming for a free release in March, so there will be much more hype next month (god damn I hate promoting). On to the tune:

Firstly thanks for the feedback! Very useful. I agree with your comments about the ending, haven't actually properly arranged the track yet tho so I'm sure I'll try and build some pace into it!

Really enjoyed The Drug, progression was spot on. Loads of little bits I enjoyed throughout, distortion on the voice sounded sick as did the drums towards the end, really good programming (it's definitely a skill to be able to create pace with drums in dubstep without it sounding all over the place). Not too good with offering tips on mixing lol, but it sounded very clean to me. Good work! :D

I would just like to say a small thanks to the creator of this thread, it gained me alot of exposure in a short space of time.

I haven't made many Dubstep tracks, but this got me on to some internet radio stations. Purely by spreading it around.

So i would just like to thank the thread creator, and also all the guys that give ace feedback :)

Here's the track:-

Pretty nice track. I would definitely spend some more time on it, its got potential. I would work on fattening up the bass on your wobbles and perhaps taking the reverb off of them? Not even completely, i would add a touch of reverb to give it some depth but what you have used leaves it sounding a bit dry. Try to make a bass only wobble that sits under the original, it will give your wobble that UMPH you desire. Many professional producers usually have 2 synths in their wobbles, as i said before. This allows the high and midrange to hit properly as well as getting that deep bass, you want to hit all ends of the spectrum. I would love to hear the finished product! Look for me on soundcloud as i will follow you! Bigups!

pretty nice mate, nice variations in the drum pattern there and nice choice of drum samples. The bass is a bit harsh though.

Mars, Here are my comments on Throw Water on Them:

+ intro builds nicely
+ i like the riser going in to the first drop
+ the mid bass that comes in on the second drop is HEAVY - NICE
+ wicked formant filtering at 2:02
+ sound design on the mid bass patches is really well done
+ from an arrangement point of view, I like how the song builds new ideas after the second and third drops while keeping a consistent theme throughout; makes it interesting for the listener
+ would definitely like to get a 320 of the final :5:

- first drop is a little abrupt, maybe space it out to give a DJ a bit more to work with?
- likewise, it ends fast, which could catch a DJ off guard - maybe let the beat run for 8 more bars or so after the bass drops out?
- the sub is a little hard to hear throughout - although this could be just be my system

i'll come back and do Hit Me shortly
