How about a convo re what we don't like about our daws. Most people say I don't like daw x cause it doesn't do y. And in fact, daw x does y, but idiot z doesn't know how to do it.

But what idiot z does know, is how their daw works, and who better to dis it than idiot z.

Metaphor got a touch extended there.

Like I was griping because Edison, fruity's audio editor doesn't allow you to pencil in samples to fix little pops and what not.

Reaper doesn't do this yet either. It's a popular FR on the Cockos forums so my guess it is just a matter of time.

Reapers default interface is fugly. Good job it's customisable eh?

Which functions/options/actions do you miss?

Perhaps they are already available either directly within the program or via the SWS extensions? (Many commands are not assigned by default, but can be assigned should you wish).

Actions which perform a series of sequential operations can also be created and assigned to toolbars/menus/keyboard-shortcuts. Some of the custom actions I've created include 'one-click bounce' and 'one-click zoom/unzoom' for making the selected sequencer item fullscreen.

I customised the default menus as they were horribly too long for me in practical use.

That might be more interesting. I am not even sure what I would add to Ableton at this point. I am quite honestly not feeling like I am missing much with version 8. I guess multi screen support. Of course users have been asking for this for a long time but I think that could possibly a major change, I am not sure they have ever had a ui makeover to that extreme. Then again maybe it wouldn't be that crazy, I know nothing about programming. Anyway have the mixer on one screen and everything else on the other would be really nice. Other than that I don't really know.

If you can list some functions, I may be able to find them/create macros for you. :)

------------------------------------------

Using Ableton isn't to bad, but it would be way more pleasant if users could load their own images for use as knobs & sliders etc. I don't like the GUI much at all, even though some of the built in FX and functions are damn good! :)

cubase you can get up into the sample level in the arrange page, you can get close to that, but you can't get all the way in reaper. About the same level as fl, last time I checked.

Hate in fruity where you draw a loop, it selects every clip falling within that loop. For the past 4 years or so, when I draw a loop I'll go in and do an operation to a clip, and it will affect everything selected. And so you have to undo, then ctrl click into an empty space in the playlist to deselect everything, and then do your operation. FUCKING ANNOYING AS ALL HELL. I mentioned this years ago to fl's dev, and everyone was like we LOVE the loop selector selects all the contents of the loop.... Hate it.

Iv'e not had it crash once on me but I an't gone 64bit yet. Cubase 5.5 although has loads new features, is still broken so not worth upgrading to.
