If he were a homosexu... wait.
Yeah, that was one crazy little subplot they just glimpsed at.

Start of a beautiful journey. I warn you...season two will seem like shite compared to season one, but once you've watched it all the way through to the end of season five, revisit season two and you'll appreciate it's true beauty.

Well actually i have only seen the first couple episodes haha, no idea what youre talking about. Lets just say that Spacey had an eye for my best mate (male) while he was working on his play in London.

I thought the second season of the wire was the best one and that after the third it falls off drastically. Starts to reintroduce a lot of characters (actors) in dubious ways and becomes more of a straight 'drama'.

100% true.
Best seasons (and they're called seasons) were 1, 3, 4, 5, 2, in that order.
- [+] Spoiler
- I would rate season 4 higher if Stringer was in it.

Season 2 wasn't as entertaining as say 1 or 3 but it was essential for the entire world David Simon was trying to convey. You needed to learn about the Greek at some point. But even the worst season of the wire is better than 99% of television.
At this point I just wish there was a season 6... And 7... And 8...
Also 2 & 5 are indisputably the worst, 5 because it was just a

- trainwreck with a seemingly improv-ed ending
, but I still rate 5 > 2 because of all the political and media stuff in 5 that was absent from 2. That was the whole point of the series really. It wasn't about gangsters and stevedores. They were just plot devices used to get to the bigger picture, the media and the politicians and the root of the city's problem.

Yeah. I would say the transition from the street level to to a pier was more surprising and educational than showing how the future drug' kids' went to school. And the characters were really good. Like Frank or the

come on, 5 was blatantly the worst one
the newspaper angle could have been interesting but wasn't really developed that much, all the characters there apart from gus were pretty one-dimensional

lol yes,
- [+] Spoiler
- the mcnulty serial killer plot line was utter shit.
yes the newspaper could have been developed more, and I think it wasn't due to incompetence of the writers but because they were hurried to finish it or something. you still had the whole marlo thing going on in season 5 though, and all of the politicians, which season 2 lacked. that's why I rate 5 > 2.

ye marlo was sick, grant you that
i duno, i think it's just that it felt too rushed as you say. i rate the 2nd season more in as much as it showed the impact of the drug trade on a completely different community, the political side had already been covered enough in the 3rd/4th season to let it outweigh the crappy bits of the last season by itself imo

All of this, basically.
Also, to echo Wub's point, the second season seems a bit gash at first but gets a lot better on the second, third, fourth viewing.

even on the first viewing, the last few episodes get you proper sucked in. definitely makes it worth the slow start

the shield is pretty underrated i'm willing to bet most of you haven't seen it and you would all like it a lot. people compare it to the wire. they're similar in that they're both about cops and robbers. but the shield is different. there aren't as many characters. it's more about a twisted plot than a social commentary.
