DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Thing i don't get is most producers don't wanna release some of their tunes so that only them and a few select people can play them.. but with Loefah hes past that style of dubstep and has no intention of going back.. so no need to keep them unreleased. Unless of course Mala and Coki have asked him to?
Or maybe the odd time he does play the older stuff he likes to drop something special which would be his unreleased tracks.

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
The flipside of that is if he's no longer interested in that style of dubstep, why would he want to release them? Artistically he gains nothing by making songs he's uninterested in available. What does his name/brand/recognition/what-have-you gain by releasing music that he no longer associates with?Muncey wrote:Thing i don't get is most producers don't wanna release some of their tunes so that only them and a few select people can play them.. but with Loefah hes past that style of dubstep and has no intention of going back.. so no need to keep them unreleased. Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
saying he no longer associates with dubstep is a bit of a misnomer, as he has played dubstep sets in the past six months....

I'm not sure if it's been posted in the thread, but here's the quote from his recent RA interview where he addresses it (just for accuracy's sake)
"I think 140 from about six months ago got a bit interesting again. But that's because it's not really dubstep anymore. So dubstep I think is pretty much...so unless you're looking at what it is now, that's alive and kicking, and that's doing its thing, and good luck, it's brilliant. But dubstep as we know it, I would say, is pretty much gone."
Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
i would definitely agree with that statement, but we've been saying that since 07

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Thing is with these old unreleased Loefah dubs. Does ANYONE ever play them anymore? Because i swear I haven't heard any on radio/clubs since like... 2007, when people drop Loefah it's always Rufage or Horror Show or some other classic. I've never heard Woman, Boiler Suit, Midnight (actually i think oneman dropped it fairly recently) or Lightz get dropped. Even with loefah's "foundation" sets, these tunes never get dropped which I think is quite crazy, because if they're not getting released nor getting used as special weapons in the dance, then whats going on?
Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Thats quite true. I mean i know Yunx throws that Midnight, Crack Bong tease in at somepoint in most sets and Woman gets a few plays too but nothing over the top. Even Loe himself doesnt play his unreleased shit if hes spinning something more like his older stuff. I've seen Loefah play 3 heavier sets in the past year (Outlooks, Leeds DMZ x2) and hes only really played tunes like I (Remix), Jah War (remix), Goat Stare, System ect. The only tune i can think of he plays thats unreleased and exclusive is Levitation by Skream.Etches828 wrote:Thing is with these old unreleased Loefah dubs. Does ANYONE ever play them anymore? Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
This is true, haven't really heard Norwood or Drive-Bi or Babylon or any tunes like that in Loefah's dubstep sets or anyone else's for that matter.
Perhaps one day, years from now, he'll realise that they are absolute classics of the genre and just let them out. But maybe not.

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
from that RA interview I can tell 100% he will never release any of the classic tracks mentioned in this thread. He obviously doesn't like them and feels his name and current direction will be tarnished and he'd feel shit releasing tracks he no longer associates with. Fair play, he made them. Obviously a shame though for people who have been wanting those tracks for years and never been told anything solid about a release or not.
One thing I can't quite get my head around is why he doesn't just give the wavs out and be done with it. That way the true halfstep goons could cut the tracks to lovely warm acetate and he never has to get hassled by us all ever again haha. At the same time a freebie doesn't have the same stigma as a release, nobody but those who really want the tracks (18 pages of heads so far) would pay attention.
That's the only thing I'm hoping for because I know if I ever got a wav of Midnight, Memory Loss, Encona I would cut them to dubplate straight away and treasure them till my days on the technics are over (basically until death
)
If you read this thread at all Loefah, think about it, just consider the option at least don

THAT'S, REAL, TALK!
Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Yeah I don't understand why he was ok with giving away the fairly sub-par Just A Beat, but he thinks doing the same for any of his forgotten classics would somehow tarnish his name. Midnight is on TWO Dubstep Allstars CDs, if that track isn't already permanently associated with his name I don't know what could possibly do it.

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Cyrus played out Midnight at the latest Midnite Run few weeks ago. Looking back on this has made me think that if there were to be a release, then it would be that with possibly Woman as a forthcoming DMZ

If he doesn't want to release them he should just give them away

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
Yeah fair when an unreleased bit is played out it does always seem to be Midnight. In an interview once I'm pretty sure Loefah said he didn't like all the tunes he made post-Disko Rekah though? Think most of his big dubs came out before then. I got so many old Kode9 2005-6 rinse sets with the Lightz remix on, man.... If I heard that in a rave now i'd loose it, I'd have to dive the barrier and spin it back myself. I heard the issue with that was that Nasty Crew didn't want it getting out or sommat.
But yeah, the man can do what he wants to be fair, I know if i were to get big time in the future, i'd probs hate the beats im doing now by then. But always hope i suppose, the same deal with the Harmonimixes and what not. Encona and Woman... cheeeeeeeze

Re: DMZ LP003 - LOEFAH ??
It'd be great for him to release some of these special tunes but if his heart isn't in it anymore then he's not going to reap the rewards of it really. When I saw him play that foundation set at pinch's fabric launch, it was sick don't get me wrong but I had wished he had played some more of his own stuff. I just remember more tunes such as I and filth getting dropped rather than his own unreleased stuff
Its still 2006

it's called "just a beat"
what more do you expect to make it not "sub-par"
