@SMOR3S Heh, same name as a Gemini track. There's something about that snare/clap that doesn't sit well with me... dunno might just be personal opinion. The kick sounds a bit flat aswell. Maybe layer it with a higher one? Sounds pretty full to me. Sorry I couldn't be of more help...

@Kongret If I'm honest, I really like this shit. I can't really fault the mixdown at all but that's because I'm not all too experienced with it. It all sounds really sweet to me man. Good job.

@mthrfnk Sounds good to me man. I love your stuff. Don't really like that main lead synth at 0.45. Sounds a bit cheesy and overpowering. I'm not gonna bother criticising the drop because I'm sure you're aware of what needs changing. Only thing I will say is that the lasery woopy synth sounds a bit out of time... Good work here.

After about a year of trying to decide what type of music I want to make, I think I've finally decided. I love this type of sidechained synthwork you see from Gemini, Xilent, Seven Lions, etc. So I've been trying to make some of that. Any feedback here. I know my mixdown's poor, I just don't know why (haven't been producing long enough).

@Living Tragedy-Good melody, man! Just alot of feedback on the track and a lot of high end. That drop is sick! Just needs to be EQ'd a bit so everything sits in place but other that, you've got actual song part down.

@Kongret- Pitfall- Great intro, if anything I'd make the kick and snare stick out more. Nice drop! Damn!

Darkness-Wow. Great job. Damn fine tune.

@Living_Tragedy: Holy Snowman tits that's a monster intro! @__@ That sounds just like Gemini too! <3 Man I love you right now lol... No complaints here :W:

@Crow Steppa: Hella phat beat, sounds kind of trappy, def needs some lyrics thrown over dat beat 8).. What did you use for your "Ahh"/"Ohh" choir sounds? Good overall production, would love to see a final! :W:

Updated WIP: (Added Vox, and worked on the mixdown more.)

@living tragedy, your tracks tight and you know it :W: the sidechain work is great, and really the mixdown isnt so bad. i can hear everything. im pretty surprised about that considering how loud it is. its hard to get it that loud and still be clear.

@crowsteppa, i definitely dug your track. its got an epic vibe to it but the dryness of the vocals takes away from that a bit. i would maybe duplicate the track, seperate the mids and high mids/highs of it, and put reverb on the latter. enough to really make it wet and continue to ring naturally. the bassline had a lot of energy but i felt that you could have worked on the sounds a bit more, some of them sound out of place

@smores, powerful intro, very uplifting. all of the sounds are great and arranged well. i would have had a small kick build up around 1:24 but i like the bouncy sound that sort of introduces the bassline. really good ideas. the vibe itself isnt really my style but i fully understand it and its well done :D nice work man.

alrighty. so here's my new tune. i made it while on some things. -__- either way i really dig it but i want to know what you guys think/ :4:

@Eye-siC: Thanks for the feedback bro! :3

Impulse: I am loving the intro on yours a lot, very ambient sounding, but still hits hard.. The drop seems to come in a bit late it seems, idk, maybe that's just me.. I felt like the wobbles, should of came in @ 0:28 - 0:29.. The break/little lead in @ 0:43 was good.. What are you using for the sound there, is it a sub blast that rises down? I really thought that worked nicely :3 Also, imo, cut down some of the low end @ 0:58, and keep it more as a breakdown, than part of the lead.. And right @ 1:24 when that sub blast hits again, you should leave 1-2 bars of silence, and then do a breakbeat snare roll, into the main drop again... Overall loved the song.. Sorry if I was to picky :3 Can't wait to see more!

Suicide Tuesday: The intro synth has a really circus themed vibe :3 You should add some vox in between each 4-8 bar w/e wobble pattern I.E. 0:32/0:33.. Say something hard like "Fuck", or "Shit" lol, think I heard something like that in a Caspa song before... Some old radio vocals starting around 0:53 with some crackling FM would sound prime... Cut the wobbles out @ 0:53 until 1:20 and then bring them back into the drop again, and then end it with the circus synth.. From 0:53 - 1:20 just have a low synth, with vocals, and maybe a 1-2-3 kick, for 4-8 bars, into a kick roll, snare hit, and then wobble bass drop... Good movement so far, has a lot of potential.. :W:

Here is an updated WIP: Does the kicks seem to be panned left a bit or? maybe that's just my imagination... Also added vox in the intro, before she starts saying "There is another dare"

SMOR3S Nice vocal work! I think it could use some variety throughout the track.
Eye-siC I like the vibes! Especially digging how the sub glides down. Try adding some panning hats and percussion (my volume is really low atm, not sure if the hats are panned or not)
Crow Steppa Sounds really trappy. I agree that the vocals could use some reverb, also the growling/fm sounding synth sounds too quiet/still, try enhancing it! Good work though, I like!

I joined this forum a while ago, hoping to lern to make filfy wobz dubsteps. Since I joined, I've touched on many genres while learning all kinds of things, but ironically, I've never took making a dubstep track seriously. I realized this about a day ago and have been working on this:
Soundcloud

Yes, when I uploaded to soundcloud, the sub came out way more louder than it should have.
The last bit is the outro, I'm working on the second drop, which would be before that obviously.

@dotcurrency: Variety as in, like melody? :3

Damn your track came out clean, that second drop is fucking nasty @__@.. Your kicks sound really hollow towards the end, they sound good.. Overall great mix! The second drop caught me by surprise, didn't expect it to hit that hard :3

@Dotcurrency - Great synthwork. I found the the piano kind of cheesy in the intro/breakdown but it fit into the drop very well. Very sick drop. I think you could work on the intro/breakdown more because i found it cheesy sounding but it could just be personal preference. Sick drop though.
@Smores - I like it. I think you could up the kick a little bit it doesnt "Bump" hard enouph. Perhaps the vocals are bit too loud? Im no expert though
@Eyesic - I listened to you second track. Sick bass, I dont find it boring at all.

New Work in progress. Feedback? Hows the mixdown? What should I add? (battle drums is just a working title) Soundcloud

@Dotcurrency: Nice production and synth sound. I really liked the drop, however I found the beginning synth line to get a little repetitive.

@Smores: Nice tune. I would say maybe go for a more explosive line after the drop. It builds up and then kind of flattens out instead of hitting you hard. Also, I would beef out the kick just a tad.

@JTreeZY: The mix down is good, and the song is very hypnotic in a good way. Some variations in the bass line along with adding in some highs besides just the snare would help fill things out. Although, the vibe you're going for is not a style I am well acquainted with, so I'm not an expert.

This song is basically done, it's just I need help judging some of the levels, especially the sub bass.

Help is appreciated,
Cheers

@JTreeZY: Thanks for the Feedback! :3

My initial reaction is, the intro seems a bit to long, the popping noise, does give it variation, until the 0:28, so I guess it works :W: Overall the mix is pretty clean, the low end is mixed pretty well, but it just feels either to minimal or empty.. Adding some quick breaks with some vox might fill in those frequency gaps... Great start though! Seems really old style dub, like some Benga :Q:
D-ROD wrote:@Smores: Nice tune. I would say maybe go for a more explosive line after the drop. It builds up and then kind of flattens out instead of hitting you hard. Also, I would beef out the kick just a tad.
@D-ROD: Explosive as in?, and does the drop ins really feel flat, cause I was going for a more chill house vibe, not really a Electro House, up in your face feel..

and

Everything felt right to me until 0:34 when that synth came in, I wasn't really feeling it all to much, personal preference really, but I guess it works.. Overall the track is nice, but it does seem to get a tad bit repetitive... Adding vox would really make this track come to life more! :3 Really feeling it though, good work, sounds kind of glitch hoppy! :W:

I updated my WIP: (boosted my kicks 60Hz @ +1.0db, and made a high cut @ 10KHz, instead of 8KHz, like I had. Adjusted the vox volume a bit to, cause it was a tad high in the mix, and lowered my sub bass -2.0db from what I had.) Does the vox seem a bit low in the mix now?

@JTreezy - I'm liking what you have so far, but I'd add in some high end freq's, it seems a bit empty on that end. Other than that, it's a well produced track, not exactly the style I listen to but it's solid.
@DRod - It seems a little bland to me. I'd put in some effects such as noise sweeps, vox (as SMOR3S suggested), and I'd also spend a little more time varying up your synth riffs and line. The composition is there, it's just little things you could do to enhance it.
@SMOR3S - I think the vox definitely don't poke out in the mix as much as they should until 0.35 when the drums come in. I'd spend a little time on synthesis as well on everything up to 1.04, but past that point it's really really nice and musical and melodic and gah it's wonderful. Amazing work there.

Here's mine, a bit on the heavier side, just looking for feedback on the mixdown especially.

@Kibb: Percussion in the intro is well placed, and the fade into the little pad @ 0:21 fits good.. Idk if it's me or not, but does the bass start to soon @ 0:40? As well as 1:07, put a 1 bar break, or something to separate it, it melts together to much, give it some room.. The main bass/lead is awesome though :W: hella fucking phat!

1:34 is good, hits well, and OMG! @ 2:00 you nailed it, exactly how I pictured it, low bass, vox, into a drum roll, then slams into the bass (is that a drum roll? :3) And what a way to end it, into some sick dnb bro! great production!... I want to play the finished track in one of my sets so bad lol, this is some face melting shit :Q:

*Side Note* Maybe fade out the end a bit more.. I like fading out my tracks to almost - completely nothing, but it's just preference...

I might try adding a low snare/drum roll, like you did, during my second break down, and automate the volume to rise, with the risers, and slam it into the lead....

Anyways,

Here is an update on my track: I re-worked the mix a lot more, and added more layers throughout the track... I might add some more white noise rises during some parts, but overall I think it came out nice... Do you think my starting kicks, at 0:34 hit to hard... I might change them to a slightly more mellow kick, or EQ them down a bit, so when the actual kicks come in at the drop, they give that more punchy feeling..

SMOR3S - Good track man, but yeh I agree with you , the kick is a bit too hard - I think you should use another kick for it in general.

Kibbmusc - You've got some original bass sounds there, that Sound really unique. Although I think the bassline melody, could be improved, however it suits it when in the dnb bit, however your orchestra bits are amazing! Lastly, add some more sub bass to it to really make it fatter.

JTreeZY - Decent, could add some more atmospheric sounds, with lots of reverberation, delay , panning etc. Has the potential to be very good however.

----------------

Ok this is my WIP, its just drop - so theres no build up or anything, so keep that in mind. Please can you give feedback on its mixdown, melody and bass sounds, rather than the lack of no build up etc.

SMOR3S - All i was saying is I expected a busier, heavier part after the drop. Just personal preference, probably cause I listen to heavier stuff. You're going for a chill vibe so it works, nice job on the tune.

@ParaTroXic: Damn that low end is nice ^__^ Overall sounds hella Rusko-esk :W:

@D-ROD: 0:34 sounds like a melody from the movie "Tango and Cash", during the prison scene... Overall great track... It sounds tad bit thin possible... Personal preference, but maybe go for a dnb second drop @ 1:53, cause it seems to lack punch...

New WIP: So I scrapped my old idea "Vision", and I going for a more "Armin van Buuren" trance theme, but still my own style, with the orchestral-esk, and all that stuffz... I really dig the vocals, even though that are loopmaster samples, and a lot of people have used them already... I feel my breakdowns could use a lot more presence, so I am going to start layering some more stuff around that, as well as, I might re-do the kicks... I made the intro kicks about -5dbs lower than the main kicks, so they don't punch as hard... Overall I am liking this idea better, but my only concern really is the lower end sub/bass area... All my layered main bass is relatively, 100Hz +, since I did low cut all my layers, so a sub would benefit here correct?... I have always been one to question sub bass note progression, so I have to ask, should my sub bass progress, the same as my plucky lead bass, or should it be more of a smooth note progression... Making sub bass isn't hard for me, it's just knowing the note progression to follow, cause I have heard a million dif things, like, it should follow your lead synth, lead bass, kicks, etc.... w/e blah blah

Anyways, Here is the track... I put about 5-6 hours into this one, so it's still a rough draft, and hasn't been mixed 100% properly yet, but let me know wacha think :)

SMOR3S Really like the 1.45 drop! Such an uplifting beat. I really like it. Kind of hard to pick up on lyrics at certain parts though. Nothing a little EQ can't fix :)
ParaTroXic Kick is drowned kind of. It needs to punch through a ton more. Other than that, nice swingy dub. Sounds like the stuff being played a lot today, I like it.
Kibb Good job on the intro! Sounds really good, can't complain about much to be honest, other than the tom rolls being a little too quiet.

Made little changes and added a second drop to the last piece i posted. Later when I'm not tired, i'll add better transitional stuff to go in and out of the drops/breakdowns/etc. They're pretty shit atm.
Tom's at 1.48 got fucked bigtime (I eq'd them when I was using ipod headphones) don't worry, it'll be addressed later

@dotcurrency: The mix is pretty fucking prime :W: I am really digging the second drop, but you should make it more glitchy, or something, cause to me it seems like it sits off time, idk, maybe that's not it, but something doesn't seem to sit right in the mix, during that part.. Other than that, the track is really well produced, great job bro! :4: btw, I think I have you on Skype, is your name "Poop"? I can't remember if that is you or not LOL!

Can't wait to hear more! :3

Anyways! ^__^

Here is an updated version of the track I was working on... (Reworked the mixdown, and took advantage of autofilter in Live, for the break downs, to give it more presence, so now I think it pops harder, when the basslines come in.. :) ) This is a Mastered Test Version btw... INB4 The vocals are way to low in the mix...

overall good structure and sounds

i think the low end percussion needs more space and clarity (kicks/snares).. not punching through
