Oh shit, dawg, you're getting it together. Looks like the flight deck of some avatar flying battle cruzer. Nice one.

And so funny you posted in this thread. I've snapped a few photos of the barest of bones of my nascent setup. (think like squares and rulers) Was going to have to find this thread to post them up. You've done that for me. Gracias.

@Nowaysj: thanks man...its not perfect...but I don't feel so much like I'm fighting the cabling all the time. I've rarely put out any music on this forum, but I've got a goal to create a ~5 track EP in which each song starts as loops on the hardware rig. Trying to find the right balance between the best of both worlds. This is totally my bassweight battle cruizer :Q: I will report back when the EP is done.

I'd love to see your current setup Nowasj...always cool to see setups from people I know are actually using their gear to make music (cough...cough...gearslutz...cough).

Here is a little more direct picture for those wanting a gear list...which I will oblige below  Also, pardon the mess, I've got something started and I'm waiting on few new pieces in the mail, so cables abound...

Image

1st stack to the left: JoeMeek MC2 compressor, FMR Really Nice Compressor, MeeBlip Anode monosynth. Next to that OTO Biscuit, Nord Drum MK1, Zoom MS 70 CDR Multistomp. Above, MicroBrute. Desktop rack top-bottom: Electrix Filter Factory, some Behringer patch bay, MOTU MIDI Express XT (midi patch bay), SoundCraft EPM8 Mixer. Volca Keys tucked between the mixer and the iPad Air on a Griffin dock. To the right of the rack, KP3, Boss SP 202, tucked up on the speaker stand Boss DR 202, Korg ER-1, Korg ES-1, finally cheapo delay pedals. Waiting on a Lexicon MX200 rack FX unit and an Alesis 3630 (finally found one for the right price, almost nothing!). EDIT: Also have an ancient ass E-MU Proteus One rompler I'm going to rack up--cheap as chips OTB polyphony.

Currently using the new iPad to sequence all of this through Genome app, but I'd been using an M-Audio Trigger Finger Pro, which is surprisingly good for the money.

Love jamming on loops and generally making weird noise. I need to record more/make more finished tracks. Wish I got in the studio more...the xmas bonus binge is done for the year...now to get on a schedule and crank some weirdness...

@bRRRz and @Sam D: Thanks guys. Honestly, it doesn't make me or my music any better--well, it makes it better for me because I like getting my ideas down and jamming things out, but the end product is only better because its more inspiring to me. Basically, gear doesn't make the music. It was SUPER slow at my rather awesome retail job yesterday (like literally 3-4 customers all day). I skimmed through this thread and it really reminded me that Dubstep just happened at the same time computer power and software reached a price point where literally anyone with a part time job and a computer could get in on the action. I love that people are making bangers on their aunty's old PC and a pair of 20 dollar skull candy headphones.

Also, budget and bide you time--it took me about 4 years to get this far and I made sacrifices in other parts of my life. The big one is I don't go to a big music festival every summer anymore. That affords me about one fancy/more expensive piece of gear every year.

This is feeling pretty "complete" to me. Someday when I have more room (lol) I'd like a bigger/better mixing desk. And I would like a polysynth. Holding out for NAMM to see what analog poly's might get announced. Vintage prices are idiotic.

Fact is I have to remind myself occasionally the point of the gear is music and not to let it become a hobby itself (buying/selling/lusting).

@hubb: Something like...abstract...something like filling a pitch black 3D space with light and sound. From note one I try to imagine the song as a finite 3D space I can fill with pitch, volume and time and that only so much of a pitch and volume can fit in any moment. So something like that would work for me : )

oh yeah man, same ..

maybe with an added rollercoaster first row spot p.o.v. thrown on top of that

tho i think a lot of dance music is more just like a sequenced 2d platform scroller but that has its place aswell

Mine's sort of a mess and spread out so can't take a photo but here's what I got so far.

Korg MS-20
Dave Smith Tempest
Eventide Space
Roland SP404
Yamaha HS80M Monitors
Contact Mic
Induction Coil Mic
Marshall DFX100 (Not a great amp but I bought it cheap when i was like 14)
Broken radio
Yamaha DD-6 (Got when I was 5)
Sennheiser H5600 Headphones

Also have an electric guitar, acoustic guitar, saxohphone and a banjo but they don't really get used in electronic tracks.

Where's that Virtually Autistic guy when you need him? "Please explain what a half dimension is. I don't understand your reference. A dimension is an absolute human construct, therefore it can not be parsed into smaller pieces. What you're saying is illogical. I really hope you take a long look at yourself. I will be posting in this thread every 5 minutes waiting for your apology."
