updates out, haven't had a chance to play yet, but looks like from what i've read so far
3 tree types
squids
cake
and some more stuff

Minecraft Beta 1.2
Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2.

New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!

Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

oh man, the new shit is awesome..
sandstone (looks beautiful, im building a desert base on the server now)

note blocks (they play different musical notes; right click changes the note left click plays it, different sound when placed on different blocks, redstone triggers it (could this be used to make complex music?)) EDIT: this is awesome

unknown blue ore.. (looking forward to this, maybe for blue dye) EDIT: you can make blocks out of it

flowers can be broken down into petals to dye cloth blocks
different coloured sheep (black, (drops black wool) light grey (drops grey wool) could be more but i haven't found any others, also if you right click them with dye you can make red sheep lol)

skeles drop bones which can be made into bone meals
new types of trees, (and new leaves + mysterious white trunks) makes the game look even more beautiful

TRAPS MAYBE (found a "trap.png" in minecraft.jar)
squids (look really scary, they are passive until attacked and they drop squid ink)

spiders can CLIMB vertically, shit scary
found something next to arrows in item.png that looks VERY similar to a quiver
the deeper you are, the shorter distance light travels (called light depth, i think notch made it up)
cakes, you have to place them and it them slice by slice, heals 1.5 blocks. also they act as half blocks so you can make cakestairs.

oh yeah
1 red flower = red dye
1 yellow flower = yellow dye
1 bone = Bone Meal
1 red + yellow = orange dye
1 redy + bone meal = pink
unlimited charcoal with furnace and Wood

you can places things in it and when connected to a redstone power source it dispenses them
so you can have arrow shooting traps now
indiana jones style treasure room here we come :corndance:

You can do those with CraftBook mod,

also dispense minecarts :)

servers back up - but no commands are working (warp, home.. etc)

just checked and it's in vanilla mode, that's why
like i said gonna have to wait for an hmod update or something for all that
in the middle of ordering some electronics parts and crap, but i'll check in some more detail later today

I just updated the server to plain vanilla beta

It should work for now, and when the server mod is updated I'll install that

You're not looking hard enough... Check the faces or mountains, small caves, etc.

If you really can't find any, you can now burn wood in the furnace to make coal.

also, I've got good news. As some of you may know, the server mod that was installed on the server is not compatible with the new version of minecraft. it also turns out that it's no longer going to be updated to work with the beta.

however, I found some guy who modified the mod himself to work with beta 1.2, and I talked with the server hosts, and they said that they'll add an option to use the "experimental version" as soon as possible.

So hopefully, by tomorrow the server will be in 100% working condition again. It runs right now as just a plain vanilla minecraft server, but none of the commands work.
