Back again with another WIP, I still cant really gauge the sub without one, so any comment on that would help :roll: And any general mixing things that could be worked out.

Soundcloud

@ Jetpack - Song sounds pretty cool dude, I can't give you too much mixing advice--I have to work on it myself, but tbh everything sounds pretty well in its place already. Killer drums.

@ Krispies - That turned into a pretty nice remix, I had to check the original haha but I like, you took it a completely different direction--your transitions are pretty well done too ..something I need to work on lol

@ MattB - Your mix is pretty awesome with this one, the drums and percs sound great. It's just this one bit, so I can't say much but the pads and ride definitely give it some movement.

@710 thanks a lot man. sweet intro on your song and holy shit awesome bass. what synth did you use for that? You did a really nice job of keeping your song varied to with all the stutters and change ups in the beat. great song.

btw here's how mine's coming along.. pretty different from earlier today actually

@710; fantastic build-up of tension at the start. Have to say I was slightly disappointed that when it kicked it was 'that' type of bass sound, but at least it sounds rhythmic unlike a lot of 'Brostep'. Great production skills though.

@sifty; love that, got that almost purple vibe to it. I'd try to bring out the sub a little more though, but that might just be my wanky PC speakers not doing it justice.

@sinister87; nice build-up again, but I'd say the drop doesn't hit quite hard enough. Maybe reduce the levels of the intro a bit, or leave some breathing room before you unload it to increase in the impact. At the moment it just seems to sort of transition in without a big effect. Solid track tho.

Anyway this is near enough my first attempt at producing, so be gentle!
It's on a Grime tip but it's pretty much generally 140bpm Bass Music. Would appreciate any feedback on the drums/mixing/bass, anything that stands out as clearly out of place or not quite right. I intend to add some more variation and another synth into the mix later on, just wanted thoughts on the foundations as it stands;

Cheers

@Lucifa

Sub sounds good. Like the drums. Look forward to hearing some other synth or pad.

@Iorek

Yeah, the ending was basically me just cutting the tune, I'll fade out and end on my root note. Thanks for the advice.

@710 That track is sick. Intro is immense :D Unlike above, I like the bassline. Good job man, everythings sounding nice there.

@Lucifa What you have there isnt bad, it actually sounds quite good, but it sounds very muddy or something to me.. Maybe its just me tho! Drums feel a tad dry too, maybe just a tiny bit more verb

@Krispies Liking and not liking! Haha... The intro is awesome, lovely, but I dont like the bassline after the drop. To me, like I said to Lucifa above, sounds very muddy. Dont like the general sound of the bassline tho tbh, the sounds in general, but the rest of the track is nice.

Heres one I was working on past 2 days:

@710
Awesome song. The sub sounds great on my speakers at least. I liked the off-time organ-type synth in the beginning a lot and yeah, you did a good job keeping it interesting.

@Lucifa
Good first try! Here's what i think: Intro was too short, the bass sounded a little too middy, and the little fizz sounds (the one's panned hard right) are a little too prominent. Keep working on it though, it sounds good.

@Krispies
Cool song, not really my favorite style, but each his own. All the robot sounds are pretty cliche, but it was good production-wise. The drop could have been a little heavier though.

Anyways, here's something I started yesterday, it'll probably end up being a few minutes longer, but this is what I've got so far. It's 100bpm sorta-dubstep I guess. Right now, the snare is a little too loud, I think I'm gonna find a different snare sample, but any feedback would be appreciated.

@nnny - very original sound, not really my style, but you obviously know what your doing. maybe edit those drums alittle, they were kinda busy? great work however, excited to hear
how it turns out

@Darj - very creative intro, I LOVE glitchy shit like that. I would add some effects, like white noise sweeps or builds to fill the space a bit. good drop, maybe a little more variation

@Danimal - WOW man love it. followed.

thanks for all the postive feedback on my last couple of tunes, here's what im working on currently.

Cheers for the feedback. I'd agree that it sounds too muddy at the moment, but I'm not sure why that'd be? I've cut away most of the middle frequencies in the bass. I've cut the low end from the kick and all the rest of the drums. And there's no synths/pads added yet that are getting in the way. Any ideas?

Also about the dry sounding drums, I've got a bit of reverb on the kick but could turn it up a notch.

Thanks tho guys :4:

@Pony_Boy - Cheers ! I know there's not enought variation on my tune ( finally someone talking about it ) but i still consider me as a beginner ( under 6 month producing )

Ok so for feedback on your track now... You just make me feel as the worst noob ever, compared to this, i'm ashamed of my track :oops: . Just : f***in good job, the whole track is really good.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it ..That bass is only massive actually, I just started with a typical yoy sound and distorted it, added some noise and shit, bounced it around, added some more effects on individual parts of it and then widened it a bit.

Haha, yeah.. I actually deleted a line from the post about how its a banger/brosteppish. I'm glad you liked it enough, and thanks for the feedback! Your track is starting out great for your first couple times, you've got talent, keep it up. Nothing weird in the mix as far as I can tell, everything sounds right.
nnny wrote:@710 That track is sick. Intro is immense :D Unlike above, I like the bassline. Good job man, everythings sounding nice there.
Thanks dude, glad you liked it! I can dig on your track for sure.. I'm not just a bro haha :D But really, you keep the whole feeling going and it doesn't get old ..Like I said, I can't really tell how the sub sounds in anything (I'm stuck on headphones for a bit) But it -seems- like there isn't much bass to your track, but I could be wrong.

Thanks dude, glad I got some sub feedback finally :p That track is pretty chill, the intro is timed great with the piano kicking in. I do agree with you on the snare, I think a more woody sound might lend itself better to such a slow track imho.

...Anyway, what're some more opinions on this, I'm tryna get better here dammit!

I got some kind words from Krispies on the last page but I figure I should bump mine because he's the only one that's seen it.

here's some more feed back.

710- I typically avoid the talking wobs but this track they are actually done very well :W: now exactly at 0:45 you have two kicks they seem to be just a slight fraction too close you might bump the second one notch over and see how it sounds. I wasn't digging the intro honestly but the track is well produced and it seems to fit. :W:

Pony_Boy- very well produced track not much to say :) great dance hall tune

nnny- really diggin the tribal feel to this. It feels a bit top heavy get the mix sorted and I'll love it :W: .

here's a repost on mine I was hoping for a little more feedback, thanks.

Right, my turn to throw myself to the wolves, but some feedback first... before I start though, some awesome pieces of work on here!!

@710 - "and what of it" - Like the intro, I'm listening at work now but when i was listening on my sennheisers at home I noticed that there was some muddiness in the initial parts in the intro which could do with being cleaned off by using a high pass of some description.

Once it drops though, very nice tune, you've got your basses dialled although I would've personally preferred a hard hitting sub instead of a rim shot - but that's literally a personal preference - the snare still sits well!

Good sound selection, it fits well, maybe work on giving everything a bit more space but other than that it's tight!

Next...

@krispies - subsonic - Good intro, loving the eerie pads and the "wet only" reverb of the snare, works very well to give a sort of "marching along" vibe with the mechanic sounds. Can't comment too much on the bass because of the speakers im using but it sounds alright in the mid range, reckon you could've gone another 16 bars before breaking it down, seems like it got there a bit too quick, but the breakdown is good, the voice works really well.

Not overly sure about the high pitched sound after the breakdown, it sounds a bit out of place and might just need to be made to fit in the mix better because it sort of made me jump out of my skin.. Loving the drop in tempo aswell, works well!!

Well made tune, some good ideas!

And finally...

@Pony_boy - What can i say.... this tune is sick, loving the intro sample, I felt envy for your ability to find a sample and use it that well with your own beat covering it, worked so nice, build up is pretty much spot on, you could see a load of people bouncing ready for it to drop. Loving the melody too, sounds a bit cheeky, with intervals inbetween the notes which is hard to pull off from my experience, sounds are pretty much bang on with the processing too! If it doesn't get a full on release I'd be surprised!!

Now time for mine... only the second tune I've fully worked on since a 5 year break, very interested to hear any feedback as I'm literally holed up in my flat with no one else listening to it giving any critique!

Soundcloud

Any feedback is greatful and appreciated! And I'll give feedback to anyone else who posts some on mine :) Cheers!

@adover Love the build up, nice use of the vocal sample. Love when them drums come in at 0:28 building to the drop, and man the drop is sick :D Bass is lovely. Plenty of variation throughout the song. Sorry I can't be more critical, I really like the track! I can't give advice on the mix itself, something I can't even do for myself haha :D
1:29, my favourite bit lol :D

Cant believe its only your second after a 5 year break... Like riding a bike? or did you have to relearn and take time to get used to production again haha?

@BevOh You should have just reposted it again mate, more likely than people going back through to page 15 to find it haha :) How you finding the switch to Ableton? I used Reason myself the first few months I produced, then switched to Ableton myself. Took a while to get used to it, but loving it so much more now :)

Anyway, the song! I like the drums, sound really nice, got good flow to them. The sample, I didn't mind at the start, but it started to get a bit annoying after a while lol! The bassline, I don't really like it, but thats just my preference. I don't like the whole talking bass :)
Needs more going on tho, get some atmospheres in there maybe? Spesh in the intro. Get some incidentals and one hits in there throughout too? And when making that track longer, remember to keep it varied :)

@Iorek Ta for the kind words :) But fucking hell, you posted on my soundcloud saying my atmospheres always make you jealous? Why!? Have you listened to what you just posted lol? Miles better than my shitty sounds. That Intro is just fucking AWESOME! The melody is beautiful. I quite like the bass. Sounds nice, but maybe a bit weak, but I've some dodgy speakers right now. Could just be me. Nice tune :)

My tunes a few posts up if anyones interested in giving me feedback, not posting it with this post as I havn't changed anything with it :D

@nnny - cheers bro for the kind words, it did take me a while to get back on it, basically I gave up because of a hard drive failure (always back up your shit!) and lost the momentum, probably spent about 2 months learning massive (as I'd never used it before), but everything else pretty much came back to me shortly after starting again. Sort of gave me a new angle aswell which is good! I do regret leaving it that long - who knows where I could be now!!

As for your tune, the sound's really nice, I'm loving the pads, I assume you come from a musical background of some sort because it's tight in that respect and it's a very clean sound. I personally would've hoped for a drop but I feel that's not what you were aiming for with this one, it's easy on the ears and I enjoyed listening to it, quite unusual to feel relaxed by some dubstep! Keep at it, it's a nice sound you're crafting there :)

Ah no way man! hdd failure, my worst nightmare lol! Yeah I keep everything backed up, if I lost everything I'd freak!
Thanks for the feedback man, but nope, I do not come from a musical background haha. Dont know any theory, cant play any instruments, nothing :D So pretty glad you assumed that, means I'm doing something right! I've been at this for about 6 months now, and loving every second of it :)

Only been producing for two months using Fl Studios. Not finished but hopefully its good enough right now to get some advice. Still learning about all the aspects of producing also so any feedback would be awesome.

@710- Like the yoi bass, I like the heavier stuff. Solid production all around. What DAW do you use?

@Krispies- Is that a remix of an Excision song? I like it alot, a huge change from the original track if its the track I'm thinking of.

Thanks man I really appreciate that :D I am having a lot of headaches with the bass especially the sub but hopefully I can get it sorted soon.
