Your view of fossil fuels running out is equally unsubstantiated, to be fair. I have yet to see any evidence of that. The US and Canada have vast untapped oil fields in the north ie northern Canada and Alaska that are untouched due to environmentalist fears and lobbying. Truth be told, there is a lot of mis- and dis- information on both sides of the issue.
And the economical car issue was in a way disproven by yourself. The oil companies are more than likely lobbying to keep emmisions and mpg standards low so that they can sell more oil, and the auto companies trying to turn a profit are taking advantage of the low standards while they can and saving the money they would be investing in making a super-economical car because they simply dont have to, no matter what the market wants. The few advances they have been made have been from pressure from consumer groups (at least in the US) and not necessarily because its profitable.
This has been a good discussion though, Mr Hyde, and has opened my eyes a bit to what other parts of the world think about green renewable tech. Coincidentally, as I was typing one of my responses, I overheard some co-workers talking about hydrogen cars and their viablility. They shared the same beliefs as me, that the oil companies have been hindering that technology because they dont necessarily see the profit potential. So it can be somewhat attributed to location and what we in our respective corners of the world see and hear in the media. You have reminded me to keep my views open, and do some proper fact checking (as hard as the internet can make that sometimes) before forming an opinion that is so defined.
"The only thing I know is that I know nothing" - I need to keep that quote in my thoughts as much as I used to, now more than ever.
That graph is interesting to say the least. I have seen it before, and I dont necessarily believe that we are to blame entirely for global warming, and that it is a naturally occuring trend. I dont think we've helped matters though, nor do I necessarily think that we can stop it even if we stopped burning fossil fuels entirely today. But, that doesnt mean that we shouldnt try, if not to stop it, just to make our short time left more comfortable by having less pollution to deal with.
Shut the hell UP!!!
