ok so in an effort to get my self qucikly back into the swing of things when i recently went mac/logic i did the idiotic thing of installing a bunch of AU's and some vsts etc. so now im left with a bunch that im ready to get rid of....demo's,shitty ones ill never use, ones that crash, cracks etc. Basically im trying to go legit and wipe my cpu free of all the bunk ones un activitaed ones demos all this shit i have from just hastely trying to get my setup back up to speed. the problem im having is i have no idea how to uninstall any that have been installed, where ALL the files for plugins are kept....patches vst versions rsa versions etc.. Do i just delete shit to make it go away? will deleting the component delete patches etc?

any help on getting rid of plugins i dont want to use...completely, would be great.
Deleting the plugins from its folder wont usually delete your patches, (I save my own in their own directory along with all my synth patches and sampler banks). To find the audio units (logic doesnt use VSTs) goto yourHD-->library-->audio-->plugins-->components, and delete the unwanted audio units there.

Alternatively, if you wanted to keep the plugins, you can disable them in logic. Goto File-->audio units manager, and de-tick the ones you dont want to be used.
thanks! although logic doesnt use the vsts i did install some thinking i may use them in reaper etc. so i think there are lingering files out there. i do have the ones i dont want to use unclicked in the Au manager but since im not using them i just want them gone for good.

so i guess there is no real "uninstall" needed, deleting all the remnants of any plugs should take care of cleaning my system of the misc. files. i guess im just so used to pcs im afraid to get in a poke around. guess its time for a deleting bonanza.

Yeah its quite hard to fully un-install. If you want to fully get rid look in the folder library-->application support-->

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I would just drag the unwanted AUs and drop in the trash?

my main issue was with any other files created by installation such as sound banks/patches. etc. and where any of those misc files may be hiding. I am a mac newb and i guess im wanting or used to a whole uninstall procedure which usually deletes file folders and what not, also on pc i know where all those files are on my mac im still learning where things go when you install.

but alas it seems regular old deletion will be the way. also i think i moved or copied alot of files from my system library into the other library so it confused me, ill probably just get in there and delete things from both locations as i find them.

again mac newb so thanks for the help!

Depending on whatever you've installed you might have to sudo away some plists and other random ish that was unpacked into your system files. Usually doing a google search for whatever you want to get rid of will lead you to a list of stuff to delete.

You'll get used to the OS as you use it more. Definitely different feel than Windows. I guess one thing I didn't pick up until several years later is that on your general folder windows, you can drag folders to that left bar, creating quick short cuts. Here's a shot of how mine is set up:

And then when you get in to presets and all that, they are split up differently. Here's another shot of folder structures:

(click for bigger version)

The stock presets are on the general HD (Macintosh HD in the big shot), and then your created presets are in your user file structure, the thing is they get split even further. The Logic presets will be in App Support -> Logic, and third party presets will be in App Support -> Audio.

Does anyone know if Logic comes with an eq or filter that can be set to change based on the frequencies of another channel. Not like the Match Eq, but for example, if I were making a 4x4 track, and wanted the higher frequencies of my kick cut out every time the snare hit based on the exact HP freq of the snare. Or if I had a bass with a moving filter, and wanted a pad to change its HP simultaneously with the basses LP filter.

Obviously I know I could automate it all in, but it'd be nice in certain tracks to just have an eq already set to do it for me. Maybe all I need to do it a simple side chain with a compressor, but as far as I know, that only effects the dynamics, not the frequency. Is that correct?

Hey so two completely easily answered newb questions - first, how do I save an Ultrabeat kit? If I've loaded and edited a bunch of samples in it, and would rather not repeat the process, how do I save it?
Is it just saving the channel strip setting?
That brings me to my next question, which is, once I save my channel strip setting, how do I open it again in a new project?

Thanks

I could be wrong (I'm not at my computer atm) but I thought there was something like in the stock compressor. But there should be an arrow at the bottom left corner of the plugin that reveals a few more parameters. If not, I think a simple work around would be just to split the frequencies.

^I'll check it out.

I guess I could just copy the automation of one channels HP filter to the other channel, then switch it so it automates to the 2nd channel's LP

EQs with dynamics and sidechain inputs are quite rare, and logic doesnt provide one as stock. I can recommend one though, I use it all the time now as my goto EQ. Its called The Melda DynamicEQ
Its affordable too! try the demo

To save new patches, or edited patches, you use the drop down on the instrument (it's the same on all of the stock Logic instruments) where you select presets. There will be a 'Save As...' option. Patch will be saved there.

If you have a channel strip saved, you hold on the Settings button at the top of a channel strip for a second or two, and a menu/list will appear. The strips you make should show up below Save as Performance, and above 01 Spaces.

right, had logic a few weeks now so bit of a newby question.
if i pack a folder (for a bunch of snares for a single hit) then bus them all to a separate channel on my mixer, then i want to use a delay using automation on all the snares together so open up tape delay on the bussed channel and use it for my automation, the snare hits are missing the beat altogether on the output so its like delaying a delayed beat.

anyway the long and the short of it is theres a delayed reaction.. any ideas how i could use automation to delay seperate hits on a four layer snare?

Make sure you have delay compensation turned on in the audio prefs
