Yeah, but it seems a bit pointless to remake a film exactly as it is.

The last thing people need is catering to.

Most are remade to be in English. I'm fine with subtitles. Bit dismissive to not watch something because of subtitles. Throwing a load of cash at a director to make a film exactly the same except for language is such a waste of money.

it's a waste of money if it's not profitable.

They're making an American version of the Stieg Larsson films, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo etc. Why?

It must piss a lot of Americans off too, the assumption that they're stupid and will only watch it if it's home-grown and in English. I know from personal experience that not all Americans are crass uncultured fuckwits with no sense of real national identity and live in a blissful ignorance.

We're just as bad - had an argument with a girl at work, she won't watch films that are B&W or have subtitles. But will watch anime?1?!

Stupid lass.

i don't see why that's such a difficult concept to get around.

i would rather watch an english remake if it's the same because then i can WATCH THE MOVIE rather than read the bottom of the screen.

Doesn't really matter though does it? Some of the best films ever created were foreign language films, we'll be able to enjoy these.

The general populace is content with pop corn rom-coms and action films. Same can be said for music though, or literature, or paintings, or anything, wait a minute, subjective!

Let them be. :)

If your a fan of foreign films but haven't learn the nack to reading subtitles and watching what is going on, then it's time to start watching more!

Just watch a dub. People who speak english seem to expect to not even have to listen to other people's languages.

I'd rather watch a film how it was originally made. Some stuff will be lost in translation whichever way you do it.

I don't like students either, and I do have a friend selection criteria which is not entirely intentional. Basically I have no time for people who enjoy being ignorant about somethings, e.g. the refusal to watch films with subtitles - can't be arsed with people like that so I don't socialise with them generally. But ultimately it is not about having a selection criteria it's about forming bonds between like minded people who enjoy the same things and think the same way. Why would I be friends with people I have nothing in common with?
