Don't get me wrong, love da p00n as much as the next soulja, but just the standard gender interaction doesn't fit that environment. There's a certain monastic element to military academies, one that allows for what I consider a higher level of concentration on studies and professional development(an important concept considering the fact that we're training to lead people)

Granted, thanks to the ubiquity of the Internet and information technology in general, that monastic element that used to typify the academy experience has been permanently altered, but by eliminating a very blatant distraction, you can retain a sense of isolation.

Don't get me wrong, I treasure every opportunity I get to leave that place and act like a normal person(normal relationships included), but but I'd prefer if that gender interplay didn't exist within my "monastery"

Furthermore, the inclusion of females into academies about 30 years ago has created some seriously harmful stereotypes that I think have permanently affected the perception of female officers within the operational services. They're either the "butch, douchey, softball gurls" who are treated with immense disdain or the "academy sluts", who are treated with even greater disdain. These roles find ways to manifest themselves in the careers of female officers, often serving as rationalizations for failures of successes in terms of promotion.

I absolutely believe that females are capable of military service, but I think it would be for the best if for the duration of 4 short years, both genders separate themselves within their respective learning institutions.

I want to write more, but my thumbs are sore, so I'll wait for responses, if this post gets any
you don't think these problems would exist after those "4 short years"? - sexual assault and harassment, and sexism in general, persists well beyond the academy stage

and those stereotypes weren't created 30 years ago - they are solid tropes that exist across contexts and institutions, that would exist whether genders were formally segregated within an institution or not. all that including women has done has brought those to the fore where they operate in order to keep women marginalised and excluded where once the rules explicitly excluded them

Do you really think, though, that gender segregation is the answer? It seems to me that the real problem with what you're describing is the extremely sexist prejudices of the males attending military academies, not any truly systemic issue. What you're saying is an argument that's been used by a lot of people as a weak attempt to mask their prejudices or to excuse those of others - "whites and african-americans shouldn't mix, racism and racial violence only exist because of integration" - rather than actually try to fix that bigotry.

Sure, segregation might fix the short-term problem, but that's completely ignoring the actual root of the issue.
im also guessing boys outnumber girls in the academy

boys tend to look up to the boys who succeed most with girls whereas girls tend to look down on girls who succeed most with boys

the problem is also with how women perceive their own behaviour, and their own social rules

but thats a massive can of worms... that i just opened hahhahahahaha

lol, yeah, women have internalised a lot of misogyny and sexism, but they didnt create it, nor are they solely or even mainly responsible for it...

thats why i said 'the problem is also...' and not 'women are mainly, nay, solely responsible for the problem because of...'

but the problem of 'who started it...' is redundant anyway. i mean if you just want to point fingers then yeah i spose i can see a point kind of, but mainly, dealing with the issue at hand which is how do we make people treat each other with more respect, is more important.

Maybe the bigger picture is the problem - what's worth more to a peaceful world, sexual harmony or the military success at the detriment of gender-interaction. If you can't balance the two, in time, beware of how practising exclusion can change who you are, right down to the bone.

When I was a kid girls would interupt my serious drawing classes, featuring tanks, skulls, castles and diggers - they'd request cats or flowers or some other shit, so I'd put gum in their hair. Now I'm a lonely old museless twat. But I have my drawings :w:

Somebody said vaginas were ugly, someone else (possibly dubfordessert) said penises are ugly and laughable - cue multiple pages of pure venom, penis defense and how it's okay to rape women if they laugh at your penis (or something like that). It was great, wholesome fun.

my problem is that in a case of clear cut sexism against women, perpetrated by men, in a context where the VAST majority of people involved are men and they occupy almost all the positions of power in an institution that is male-orientated, it takes a handful of posts for someone to somehow pin some of it on the women.

i don't have a problem with "not pointing fingers" - but what you're doing is pointing fingers at women in a case of OBVIOUS sexism by MEN. for sexism to be eradicated the people responsible for it need to *take responsibility for it*.

so in a case where im simply saying that gender issues are more widespread than men systematically ruining women's lives, its taken a handful of posts for you to accuse me of being a sexist and not being able to take responsibility for it

nice.

what that kid was saying before i disagreed with, and posted up legitimate queries as to how segregating boys and girls might help solve the problem of sexual inequality in that particular instance and somehow by arguing against him im now lumped in with 'the horde', for just saying that in cases like this, the problem isn't simply perpetuated by boys. which is fact.

there is stigma surrounding both men's and women's sexual behaviour, thats the only point i was getting at, probably shouldn't be vilified for it, its pretty commonly accepted...
