Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@JTL - The vocals at the start fit really well, and the detail on the percussion makes it feel more real, the second vocals for me get a bit tiring, and an the song doesn't seem to progress, there needs to be much more detail on the sampling. Change the samples around bit and get more variation in there!
@dansheep13 - I think your kicks could do with some more high frequencies in, if you make 'em yourself try putting a high hat in somewhere? and i didn't hear much cymbal action in there?
@rymebox - really good sounding kick and snare (although that could do with a bit more highs in?) the the synths in the intro sound food although some more filter playing with them could make the intro much more fun? If i think i know what you're going for the bass needs more of that shit but changed up and down a bit man.
here's my song, it's not dubstep but it's kind of dub influenced, lots of reverb and delay!

@Rymebox
Really enjoy the intro, no complaints there. Drop hits hard enough, but I think the beat should be a little more defined during the drop. The kick drum and hi hats are pretty buried under the bass, and even though the snare is east to discern, there no real umph behind it
@JTL
The whole song gives me a great Christmas-y vibe (whether or not you were going for it). I really like the melody of the vocals, when they first kick in it's super relaxing. I'd personally like to see them follow the key of the rest of the melodic layers though instead of being more or less the same loop for the first half. It's far less of an issue for me with the latter half of the song cause of how many layers are introduced. The beat and everything else sounds good.
@United Fruits
Awesome song man, reminds me of some crazy hybrid of Fantomas and Ratatat. I was kinda missing the more melodic stuff once it hit about 1:20 though, more specifically from 1:27-1:37, feels a little bare next to the rest of the track, but that's just me knitpicking. I'd go way more in depth about the mix if I had the knowledge down already.
Anyway, onto my WIP
First thing I've produced that could be considered electronic. Coming more from a post-rock/ambient background. But anyway, this is where I'm at and where I'm planning on putting the drop. Still not sure about the breakdown though, thought about scrapping the whole thing and taking it somewhere else. My biggest problem now is getting the mix overall sounding fuller and fatter. I'm sure there's an easy way to do it, but I've only been producing for about a week and a half so my experience is a work in progress haha. Any thoughts/criticism would be awesome though.
And finally, if someone could tell what genre this thing is I'd really appreciate it!

alright first off id like to to say that I am aware that a section of the intro sounds sim similar to Deadmau5's "Brazil", it will most likely be taken off.
*EDIT!!!* there is a sequencing error at about 2.34
So iv'e got the layout of the song done. I need opinions and tips on the mixing/sound and arrangement. Thanks.

that soundcloud account is not my official one. here is my official one: http://soundcloud.com/ryanreesofficial
@Attila: I mean, the beat makes it dubstep technically. Not sure what to call it. But I like it.
@UnitedFruits: love it, nice beats n bassline
@difference: very chill and nice. I feel like there should be some R&B vocals.

nice ryan i like it. danceable. perhaps turn down the volume on the vocals a little bit and try toying around with pitch alteration just a tiny little bit. sounds good though.
updated my WIP track to make the sub bass match the synth, it's in my sig now.

yeah wanted to quote briskisgoodforu just had my siganture tunes there wasnt looking for feedback sorry for confusion

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Def. prefer that second version, GV1
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Some two-steppy piece I have at the minute. Only a few bars, and bit muddy as not really worked on the mix yet. But I wanna know if it's worth progressing with.
Soundcloud
@briskisgoodforu Not a massive fan of the vocals, may be just the mix but it just doesn't sit right or in time. I like the main synth, but I dunno, think it lacks structure and didn't really feel a flow to it.
@LifeOfCows Can't stand the original but you've done really well out of this. The vocal is absolutely lovely, maybe out of place though, I reckon you could something blissfully soulful garage or jungle out of that. I'd change the drums up a bit for some variation, throw in a different snare or something.
@EFEKZ Synths are sick, got a proper 05-06 vibe of it. Drums are too rigid, sound like they're there just for the sake of having drums. Depends how you want it to go, but I reckon if you wanted to turn it into a dancefloor danger of sorts you make it 4x4, inject some energy with some crashes etc.
@Standby Feeling this, I'd throw in more incidentals with heavy delay to give it more that dubby feel. Sirens, lasers with 1/16. Dub delay on, just changing it up a bit.
@Gaol Sounds too stock and lacks flow if I'm honest. Try and sort out some form of call and response so the track progresses, feels all a bit too random right now.

Should ban people from this thread if they don't read the rules properly.
Feedback should be constructive. Usually longer than 1 sentence that offers your opinions on the track.
Wrong:
Ban stick needs to come out I think to lock people out of this thread who can't understand what "feedback" means.

Wrong:
Correct:Nice track. I liked the drop.
If you just want people to hear your music go and spam some forums across the web, or spam soundcloud. You won't get any feedback on your music from the veterans around here unless you put the effort in. Why should people put their effort into giving you feedback when you can't do the same for them?The buildup was nice but I think you should improve it by adding some more elements. Some bright synths might work well here and maybe a few sound effects. I also felt the snare was a little loud on my hears and had to much high end. Maybe cut the some of the highs and boost the mids a slightly. The bass worked well with the track but some variation would really make it interesting and give it a bit more excitement.

Thanks for the feedback! The sample is take from a song by Mya called "My love is like woah"JTL wrote:
@stranger_sounds Love the vocal already. Great verb/delay. Nice arp. So far so good, digging the moombah/funky vibes, great percussion man. Bouncy! Kick is coming through real nice here. Loving the vibe so far, where's the vocal sample from? Sure I've heard it before. Love the panning on the vocal too. Nice sweeping synth. There's the arp again, this is a real roller. Haha, this is a roller, enjoying it. Would drop for sure at a club, let me know when it's all wrapped up. Could you tell me how you made that main sweeping synth? Nice sidechain on it now. Yeah like this one for sure, let me know when it's done!
The synth was made in massive with a couple of saw waves, one pitched up by 7 notes. Both linked to a low pass filter with a slow attack automation on the cutoff. Pretty simple.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Lucifa - loved the automation, but pay attention, the song is a bit monotone, repeatedly.
@BudSpencertron - Loved the Sub-bass! witch frequencies did you used?
@daftendirekt - Great lead you've got there. witch filter did you used? sounds like automated Hi-pass - but not sure.
Well, here my new tune. I'm gonna fill some empty bars there, and do mastering.
But let me know what are you thinking about

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@attila - really nice melody, liking all the incidentals put in, and that hit around 1:23 is brilliant imo
I feel that there needs to be a stronger midrange, Which couuld be achieved by extending the notes on the piano and maybe turning the volume up a bit on it. Also I'd try putting the sub an octave lower, to fill the spectrum up a bit more. Maybe also layering the lead synth with another one an octave lower, band passed around 1khz but keeping it at a low volume to give it a stronger sound. Keep it up man!
@budspensertron (bongoman track) - Feeling the grooves in there!, sick wirk with the toms and sub bass. Some reverbed light crashes that drag for a bit might help fill up the high ranges a bit, just my opinion and I'm not really familiar with the style so i don't know, but sick tune still!!
@Gramillion - liking all the unique elements in here, like that speed up up around 0:47-ish, never heard anything like that before, its cool
Intro neets crashes and maybe a higher lead synth as well, like a square wave gliding between notes. The kick is really nice!, clap needs a little bit of a higher tone to it i think, maybe eq'ing a small spike around 13khz? Looking forward to hearing the final!
Here's my tune, Mostly just experimenting with sounds and I tried a faster, brostep style for the first time. Do you think there should be a better melody for the drop? Any other changes? (btw, intro, kick + snare are not done yet.) Thanks!

Alright so im pretty sure im at the final stages of my track before I send it to be mastered. Before I do that, I need some finals tips and opinions on the mxing/production.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@dj cappa thanks mate feel you with the reversed crash thing but worked to long on this one for adding anything more haha but great idea for the next tune
for your tune its not really my cup tea so i will just point out things on the production side. it lacks some sub power so maybe try to double your bass synth and change the wavetables to one sine and the filter
automation to volume or you try to split the frequencies into sub and midrange. and raise the sub by adding little bit of tube and a compressor. would take the melody away cause its kinda counterproductive and add some one hits instead maybe into a bass break so the bass hits harder again.
@gramillion as i remember it was the obvious 50 hertz thing
the bass is really grimey but then it looses some of its power at around 0 53 maybe you shoud clean out some of the low end of the bass to bring it more upfront. try to layer your drums little bit more too. sometimes it works to new york compress the bassdrum with a tube on the compressed part but thats all really dangerous cause it can turn out muddy. but making your drums pop out more would bring alot.
@stranger sound
really like your style as you know dont think i can give you tips cause you now where you are going with it
@lucifa
big ups really looking forward to hear the finished tune only thing i would change is the overpowering bassdrum, love the widerange of sounds though really great start

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ Attila: Youve got some serious skills with making melodies and getting them to work together. However, I feel like its just too sugary. Its very much like a pop song's intro, and it doesn't really fit with the vocal you have for the drop. Id say cut one of the instruments out to give it more space and to give the drop more impact when it hits (if your intro is super loud and big, your drop wont be as impressive). For the drums, I'd say get some compression or sidechaining on them to bring them out in the mix. Other than that i really liked what you have going on. Biggups.
@ BudSpencertron: Whoa. Thats all i can say. You have something real unique going on here and i love it. The only points i can make are: 1. Bring down the volume level of the crackle. I feel like this track could be magic with a bit more space. The 2. Lowpass that main synth. I feel like it could make the track deeper if you cut out the highest frequencies of the synth, and again, itll give the track more negative space. 3. Maybe add some hats or ride cymbals halfway through to retain listener interest? other than those points, i really enjoy this and would love a 320 when youre done.
@ Gramilion: Catchy drop mate! However I feel like the introduction was too full. I would recommend Lowpassing the synth in the intro so it hits with more impact at the drop. also i feel like the gap in the build up could be done better. instead of making the bass LFO speed up alot mimic that movement with kicks. Its getting there though.
heres my track: Went for a dungeon style with a more aggressive bass, because people like Kryptic Minds and Sleeper basically have the regular dungeon bass locked down. This is my first track in 6 months and its the one im gonna send to djs and labels when its done hopefully.
I ask that you please listen through the whole song, because the bass and percussion do change over time.

My newest one. Felt like doing a song in the key of Skrillex. Recorded all the guitars myself. Still having trouble with mastering phase (limiting, maximizing and multiband compression). Lemme know what you think

HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES WILL SOMEONE NEED TO SAY THIS. YOU MUST LEAVE FEEDBACK TO THREE PREVIOUS SONGS BEFORE YOU CAN POST YOURE OWN FUCKING SHIT. FUCK. READ THE RULES.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
How about everytime u are about to post some kind of post like Lectrics post, u give feed back to some1? Whats the point of feedback thread if every second post is "READ THE FUCKING RULES WTF rETardSZZ!! SHIT!"
Also, whats the point of feedback thread if theres no feedback, only new wip's?
I would give better feedback if i had more knowledge about mixing etc. It's much different to give feedback if u only know something like "nice flow, kick sounds great"...etc. than to people who can tell by ear that oh hey u used that and that plugin at there and that kind on synth there and so on.
But hey, i think the title of the thread was " post ur best READ THE FUCKING RULES-expression, so FUCK SHIT BITCH FUCKING RULESZ! SHIT READ EM MMMMKAY?? FUCK

@BudSpencertron
really liking that rainstick kinda noise at the very beginning, then the kinda intermittent pads sound really nice. super chill.
@dj Cappa
lovin the 8 bit feel. could have a longer, more dramatic build up. that bass sounds wonderfully dirty, good job dude.
@rudebrat
sweet jesus good job. vocal sample and guitar sounds brilliant, and that bass is ridiculous. all around sounding great
here's my song, not really sure if it's finished or not.
