this is it exactly man. it was that weird time when every sound was clashing every sound...you didn't know if one tune was grime or ukg or 2step, breaks, dub...

a mad mad time in music, and we should be thankful we got to experience it, when no one really knew what to call it, but you felt it when you heard it, and it sounded like nothing else.

gonna post some classic thing's that I can remember..

Zodiac Recordings (some abselute bangers on this label, gonna be playing some tonight, Geeneus, Wizzbit, Wonder, Danny Weed)
MOS Wanted Rec's (Dom Perignon & Dynamite - Hungry Tiger/ DND - Got myself together)
And Seckle, yes that Gemma Fox remix did come out, will have to ask Trizla what label it was, but he played it recently on my show, its the one with the breaks at the start?
Morph - Firefly / Boomshot (Music Box)
DJ Wire - Last chance / Believe Me
Corrupted Cru - G.A.R.A.G.E. (DJ Narrows Remix)

Mental, the above are all bangers & are on that similar sort of "looking back" tip

yes man! and you know what, i just discog'ed it,and you're right! it did come out. it must've been a 250 or 500 press only, because i don't remember seeing it, and my 12" is the original vocal, and the flip with the instrumental. the one to try and find is the menta remix. its listed here
http://www.discogs.com/Gemma-Fox-Feat-M ... ster/76827

there's more of these crazy limited youngsta releases out there. tunes that maybe only 3 or 4 people have got.

Golly Gosh is a STOMPER of and tune and so are all the Alias bits! Was sick to skank to Slimzee's set at Rinse's 15th - took me back to the good old Sidewinder / Plasticman days!

Golly Gosh - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aTB7Hhdxgk

i dug out the GirlFriend 12"s the other day because the Menta/Artwork mix is sick and noticed it had a "DJ Silky" remix on it. Then i remember what Silkie said in interview, about working at a major, and the penny dropped... it's probably early Silkie (now Deep Medi).

Apple was so sick, I used to treck down there even though it took 1 1/2 hours. Hatch would fling you 12"s that no one else had, like the Brandy El-B bootleg Burial loves so much.

Same for Rhythm Division in Mile End too, but that was the one for grime: wiley and co lived in the area and just dropped 12"s off in the shop.

Who remembers Youngsta "8bar" sets? :)

I have the recordings of the first and second filthy dub nights on mini disc.

That was in november 2003, was Skream and Benga's first ever gig!! Was Loefah's too actually.

Some memorable tracks from that era:

Skream & Plasticman - We Like The Dark
Skream - Cape Fear
Benga - Mammoth
Menta - Jacknife
Skream - Kontrast
Skream - Swoosh (Disfunktional Minds)
Benga - Virus

I am very pleased to say I'm sat in front of my desktop and most of the above tracks appear in WAV format on my hard drive!!! Back then I was encoding most stuff to 128 mp3 which pains me so much!!!

Still remember the first time Hatcha played Loefah's Indian Dub at FWD. I was mid-way back along the left hand wall near the bass speaker. The tune got pulled up twice regardless of its long intro!!

Uptown forum was classic - Logan used to kill it on there. I remember uploading a clip of Venom, to which I had a very mixed reaction. I had to take the clip down and explain Slimzee had asked for it exclusive, at which point I was shot down by Logan who exclaimed Slimzee had never heard the tune before!!! He obviously had, he signed it to his record label a few weeks later and unfortunately for Logan, it was his job to call me on Slimzee's behalf and get me to send over the master files.

Logans still a ledge though. I didn't hold any grudges against him.
