dont download porn
dont store porn video's
dont store porn pictures
get a big memory stick and set that a virtual memory, freeing up the hard-drive to do other stuff.
replace ur 5400rpm with a decent 7200rpm (or if ur wealthy a solid state drive)
put as much memory in your pc as humanly possible.
getting a mac wont solve the problems...they still have 5400 rpm drives in and logic is a memory hog..

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH REGISTRY CLEANERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
files that say they arent used when you search them end up being tied into the startup process...
even with a back up of the registry you can still fuck your comp beyond repair..
best not to touch it unless you are going after unistalls from an old version of FL studio for example

I make my shit on a Dimension 3100 from '06. it makes noises and I have to smack it every 30 min or so. a microKorg which I have yet to set up, AND it's borrowed so homes is gonna come for that shit anytime....using a creaky-ass wooden chair. I use a random desk that has no desk space, and is too high, so my right wrist has been in serious pain for a month and a half.
not too far off.

Nope
Cleaning your comp is TOP advice. Both my last two comps died due to overheating.

Check that your mobo has spare slots, find out what type of ram it takes and buy some more!

same as me minus the midi keyboard and fruity loops. sometimes when i want to try my hand at "mixing" my loops down i drag my laptop over to my desk and plug it into my soundcard and speakers.

This is probably the most useful thread on this forum. Anyways, this is a site that lists all the services for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7. It tells you what each one does so you can go through, find out what you use, and disable everything you don't use. This will free up memory and CPU power. Just look at the "Service Configuration" page for whatever version of Windows your running.
