my saying is... Never force your self to compose a tune. do it when you feel right!
Re: To the writers block massive...

Problem is when you're almost psychotically addicted to making tracks, but your creative energy is totally spent.
My name is cc74 and I haven't worked on a track in 7 days. I've opened a project or two, and listened to a 16 bar loop but that is it.

If you feel you'd fall behind by not making tracks the just piss about with all the processes you would usually without feeling you need to go anywhere with itnowaysj wrote:Problem is when you're almost psychotically addicted to making tracks, but your creative energy is totally spent.

- write a drum loop at a random tempo, use samples for it you wouldn't usually use (different drums, random 1 hits, pitched drums etc)
- just mess about in a different style (I wrote a 4-bar house loop the other day that I liked, it aint going anywhere but I learnt a few things from it that I can use elsewhere)
- write without the intention of saving (I know everyone says to save everything you do and back up just in case) but it can be so liberating to just rush through a tune making mistake after mistake not really caring about the mix, then delete it when you're done. No one is going to judge you, lack of creativity or inhibition of creativity is when you are too worried about the final outcome, noone will like it, it's not the usual thing etc, make whatever you want, if you think it has potential then come back after a week and if you still like it then you can finish it and share it, if not then noone has to hear it
glad to see this thread has been revived

It's external factors that are keeping me from working on music! Otherwise, spent or not, I'd be in there, pow pow.
