Re: Is dubstep actually just a bit shit...
I've been feeling alot of mininal deep dubby techno lately. Might put together a mix over the weekend.
Re: Is dubstep actually just a bit shit...
Guess you've just rinsed it up abit. I find that sometimes. Dubstep is great, but 24-7. Sometimes I need my soul and jazz, and most of all hip-hop, my first love.

Re: Is dubstep actually just a bit shit...
Just looked back on the thread and realised I missed this.mawltea wrote:There's lots of shit dubstep in my opinion, and lots of mediocre boring "this is going nowhere" dubstep, but some really fucking good dubstep too. Unfortunately, the two first categories seems to be the two dominating at the moment, it just seems to easy to make something even remotely catchy. I mean, one of the most hyped tracks of the year, 'Hyph Mongo', well, it just isn't really that great, it lacks progression and an overall interesting sound, everything in it seems like its been done before, and there's absolutely nothing special about the means of production, in my opinion. The formula is getting rigid and boring, and the ones that are making the fresh good sounding stuff are the ones not afraid to walk a new path and incorporate a more personal style or perspective on it. It hasn't reached its peak yet though, dubstep will probably seriously get into the mainstream at some point, kinda like trance did, and become utter shit at some point, but the really good producers will have moved on to something nice and fresh anyway.
That's one man's opinion. I don't mean to be disrespecting anyone, 'Hyph Mongo' was just an example, it's not a bad track, it just isn't that good.
Too fucking true man, people need to be saying this and realising it. Big up!

Listen to the album Jane Doe by Converge. Make slipknot sound like the teletubbies.futures_untold wrote:I love their guitar style..!djelements wrote:Slipknot kinda sucks, guys.
Are there any other bands out there with a similar style that I should check out?
#If they suck, which rock/metal/guitary groups do you recommend I listen to instead?
I honestly don't know much about that side of music...
You should also check out An anthology of dead ends by Botch. If you want something with a bit of soul check Glassjaw - everything you ever wanted to know about silence.
Re: Is dubstep actually just a bit shit...

Re: Is dubstep actually just a bit shit...
here is some serious metalz for you people who think slipknot is heavy... you are sorely mistaken (also joey jordison is a hugely overrated drummer, i can say that with some authority as i have been playing drums since i was 8yrs old)
progressive, technical, cleverly arranged and also brutal as fuck
