It's not an attack on all digital DJ's the way I see it. In the end, nearly all DJs have gone digital now, it's on the whole - oh, i'll just use mixed in key to pick my songs, sync em up, quantize the bars so they clip together nicely and you're in business, except for the fact that a fucking autistic five year old could do the same thing. I'd say give it 5 years, and a piece of software will be released that literally does everything for you, and then a lot of us are out of jobs. I know a couple of guys who think they're badman DJ's and they don't even have a fucking pair of headphones hooked up, they just do it all on the screen. BOLLOCKS!SK3W3R wrote:im a digital dj, not because im lazy but because i just cant afford vinyl, i still do all my beatmatching manually and still give it 110% everytime i play and i still drop whatever tunes i can on vinyl its just purely a money sense in somee peoples cases, so dont strike us all down with the same stone

Fair enough you don't like the fact that a skill that you value and have put work into developing can now be replicated by anyone regardless of whether or not they have a clue. Let them do their thing and you continue being keeper of the plastic arts - plenty of people still appreciate you; at least the chav didn't fuck up your records.hayze99 wrote:I see the point, but I still think it's complete bullshit. Any of the good DJ's on here could easily smoke a blunt, talk to some girl, go buy drinks and DJ all with their eyes closed if you give them a sync button. It doesn't take a full 2 minutes (roughly) to decide which the next song is going to be and then use the computer to cue it up. We can all do that in 15 seconds flat. For me, beatmatching gets everything grooving, which is why I swapped out my CDJs for vinyls. I could literally just put on a set list and do the whole thing without even paying attention if you let the computer do it for you. I just find it a slap in the face for DJ's who spend years learning how to get everything right, and then some drunk chav walks up and goes, yo check dis bruv, aint even got to be using no headphones. Fuck that. It's like if a drummer was quantizing all his beats on the spot. What's the difference between him and a kid who's fucked around on it for 2 hours?the acid never lies wrote:You don't hear the DJs who actually get booked complaining do you?
Beat matching isn't very hard and on it's own is only good enough to make you 'competent' on the decks. People who get upset that people are 'cheating' by using a sync button need to reevaluate their priorities imo

Re: IM SO SICK OF FAKE ASS DIGITAL DJS!!!!
it's a shame that our shitty economy also struck the music business. With digital and stuff, it's ugly as fuck. Why would you try to ruin a medium as nice as vinyl? I mean when becomes mobility and easyness more important than the actual sound itself? Why could ever anyone choose digital above vinyl?
Why??
If they just let it like it was, everybody would still be buying vinyl. Producers would earn money. So the producers who are shit a dj'ing wouldn't have use stupid digital stuff to be able to do gigs, so they can earn some money that they deserve for their hard work.
What is so special about going to see somebody live pressing every 2 minutes a button? If you go see a live show, you are expecting to hear some sick guitar or whatever. If you go to party, you want to see a skilled real dj no? You don't pay 5 euro entrance to see someone push buttons, and raising his hands like he's the badman..

Why??

Re: IM SO SICK OF FAKE ASS DIGITAL DJS!!!!
haha! you're getting all pissed off because people do something that you love differently than you do... and that's just silly. you gotta get it outta your head that there's only one best way to do something. plus your claim that a person can't be a good DJ and producer is ludicrous.. would that also mean that because a person wrote a song, they couldn't sing it and play it as well as somebody else? preposterous.djekim wrote:there seems to be a trend of talentless people sitting there hitting buttons on a freaking apc40 and calling themselves djs. THEY ARE NOT DJS! instead i would call them posers.
i am personally holding the opinion that there should be producers and there should be djs. what happens when a producer has to dj or the other way around is you get a half assed product. im not saying that everyone that djs cant make a track or the producers can spin but to really be at the top of your game in either you dont have time for the other.
with that being said all of these jackasses that sit there and line up their tracks in ableton then hit the button to trigger the song ( and mind you they dont even have to hit the fucking buttons in time ) need to step down and let the big boys do the work on the decks. for fucks sake a retarded monkey can sit there and hit buttons.....
the only thing that matters is that the music is playing, dude... DJing isn't just about the skill it takes to line to beats together (although maybe to some people it might be)... so you shouldn't be hating on ableton just because it's fuckin SICK and easy to use. why do you think "easy = bad"?

Re: IM SO SICK OF FAKE ASS DIGITAL DJS!!!!
Bear in mind that it's not as simple as letting ableton figure it all out for you....to use it properly you need to go in and cut and warp from scratch....it's fucking long at times doing that...djekim wrote:dont forget here guys that there is such a thing as live pa still. if you are a producer imo you should be doing live pa. back in the day i was a big ill factor fan because the guy was making great tracks and doing that shit live.
im not saying that there arent people out there that are able to rock out on ableton and really keep busy but it still takes no skill. it really dosent take any knowledge about music theory or anything.
if you listen to the soundcloud set that i posted earlier in this thread that guy uses serato. hes still being a dj even though he uses pads. like i said, you are able to do all that shit that you do in ableton but it requires the skills of a dj because there is no program to drop everything in time and beat already matched. you would have to match the beats and hit the pads in perfect timing, can you do that? if you cant stop calling yourself a dj, dont worry though its not like all of us can be good at it. its a skill that you have to work on.
on a sidenote if i was to follow a turntablist around i would go to every kentaro show personally. ive never seen anyone like that besides qbert and i think that kentaro may be better. if you dont know educate yourself on youtube before you spout off on the topic.
I'm pretty sure i can hit things in time yes lol...what is the difference anyway in dropping tunes you've warped yourself to letting the record spin at a certain point?
everything is in time and beatmatched in ableton because it has been painstakingly warped to perfection which is a big job if you want it to be perfectly beatmatched (which there is no excuse for if using ableton)...mixing on drops is lazy and for people that can't be arsed to warp stuff perfectly
Kentaro is a legend..
