Thats an intersting point man. Its all down to perspective. If your into dubstep to feel like a badman gangsta then do what you wanna do. I stopped smoking the herb and taking class A's 2 years ago and have never felt more determined and artistic! Somebody here also pointed out that its also to do with mindset. Some people dont need to smoke a whole lot of herb to feel the same way when making dubstep than if they were cheech.wirez wrote:If you feel it makes sense to take Dubsteps roots all the way back to Dub, you should look into the Dub don (the one that didn't get shot) Lee Scratch Perry, and look at his opinion on drugs since he gave them up. He basically now classes the music he made one drugs as the devils music and had to make 'clean' music to redeem himself (and even his fans)!Depone wrote:I actually love congo natty, but dubstep isnt jungle. Sure it has elements, but to say that "Ganja references in ragga and then ragga jungle are a big part of dubstep's roots" is a bit of a long leap. After all Liquid dnb isnt oldskool hardcore is it? they started from the same scene, but they are two different breeds.apfelsaft wrote:Depone wrote:All to their own. Personally i cant stand the stigma of drugs (weed in particular) in dubstep. When someone drops a weed reference in their track i just think 15 year old boy who should grow up. Smoke weed, by all means, just dont make it so fucking cliche.
Ganja references in ragga and then ragga jungle are a big part of dubstep's roots. I don't think we could have dubstep today without drugs (or congo natty, who was definately mashed off his tits to spend god knows how long flipping those breaks to and fro)
Back to dub, i think my fav dub artists are Mad professor, lee scratch perry and jah shaka. Please buy/download the album called New decade of dub by Mad professor/jah shaka. It changed my life!!!
