I arrived at 9:30 sharp, to a sight that can only be described as ABSOLUTE FUCKING ROADBLOCK. The queue (which turned into a mosh pit as the night went by due to people piling in and out from the sides) stretched 1 1/2 block away from the entrance. Halfway through the bouncers resorted to the 1 out/in-routine to make people give up, which worked to a certain extent. Still, it was 2:40 (!) by the time I finally got in, meaning that I missed everyone but Kode9 and Skream b2b Hatcha. :x That'll teach me for not getting a ticket I guess.

In any case, once I actually got in, things went quite well both compared to last time I was there and in terms of dubstep's first baby steps outside DMZ/FWD. The floor was reasonably packed, the sound system was good and the dubstep mentality seemed to permeate Room 2 quite well. I personally think that the visuals/lasers worked quite well with the music too, at least with the kind of tunes Skream and Hatcha played. Lots of good tunes were played (Distance - Night Vision and Mala - Lean Forward being my personal highlights), and my fears that people would be too stoned/caned to give a shit about interaction were unfounded. From what little I caught of the night, the transition seems to have gone well for dubstep.

A few complaints: far too many easy rewinds, which combined with the sloppy mixing and lack of set structure often provided for an effective vibe killer. I know some people here don't care about mixing too much, but I'm not among them. In addition, there was a handful of idiots who started trouble everywhere they went by either just being aggy or being aggy and forcing their way around the place, to the point where one of them had to be restrained by two bouncers on the floor in order to prevent a fight from breaking out. Fabric will always be Fabric I guess, at least when there's drum n bass on.

Shout to Grand (sorry I didn't get to catch up with you, you could've gotten a Norwegian to add to your list of members you've met). Also, large up the group of guys next to me on the floor who started moshing it to Chest Boxing. That was just what I needed to see in a place like Fabric after queueing for over 4 hours.

edit: bloody hell, what a lengthy review. Oh well.

 This was the first time I heard/felt dubstep on a proper sound system.

Arrived 9.20 - queue for those with tickets was tiny (though pay on the door was already long)
we were straight in once doors opened at 9.40ish

last club I was at was Fabric so kinda remembered my way (lucky got in to see Jazzy Jeff scratching and mixing at a movie premiere party quite a while back).

room one D&B warm up sounded fairly steady but as we approached the Dubstep room the bass vibration was something else
scored drinks and a perch while we nodded heads to the warmup (sorry not sure who). fairly deep and smooth mixing. let the tunes play for a while as the place filled up - mostly with blokes to begin with but later seemed a lot more ladies.
Then Distance with a very dark and deep, count the melodies on one hand sort of set. Some nice tunes from that dark album of his. Mix of blends and quick mixes work well to build the atmosphere. By the end of Distances set the floor is full and spirits are up.
Next came DMZ (Mala?) with as expected some serious bass. The sound system is pushed harder and louder and responds well without distortion.
Fast mixes, rewinds and the DMZ dubstep anthems all add to the ferocity of the dancers. Variety of tunes with a strong reggae vibe; this was the set I skanked most to.
Plastician inherited the crowd and was on bringing the grime feeling. Quick mixing and energetic grimey riddims plus dubstep. Now for the first time the place seemed rammed with less dancefloor each.

As I walked round to check the other rooms I think my body was still shaking from the bass it had just experienced.
The jazzy d&b in room one now sounded nice but easy like pop music.

Time to leave then so missed who played after (Kode9,Skream b2b Hatcha) Next time I'm going out on my own and taking some pre-rolled. mind you by then i was very hungry - how about a dubstep picnic where you can take in sandwiches.

Even the tunes I had played over and over at home sounded so different on that killa system. Bass I never knew was there - need a real big speaker at home.

Heard some excellent tunes and dj's
Saw no trouble and lots of smiles.
Smelt lots of high grade smoke.

Now looking forward to my next bass journey - will try reaching DMZ next time because I liked their set most last night. Right side of the river so should be easier getting home.

I go Fabric quite a bit, but havent been on a Friday in ages, and was well dissapointed yesterday...

got there at 11, had to wait an hour even for the guestlist cos it was a proper scrum at the front... once in, at midnight saw the set lists- which was well annoying cos had missed Mystikz (who puts them on at 11?). Sound System seemed a bit quiet- Plastic on his own killed it as usual- and was starting to have a pretty good time...

But Virus were poor in my opinion- good tunes, but well didnt rate the MCing going like that for a whole hour... . Kode9's set started off slow but got well techy towards the end which was class- again shame that the volume seemed to be low. But some tunes were absolute masterpiece. And then Hatcha b2b Skream- 2 many reloads, but at least it was louder! There didnt seem to be any direction in the night- far too start-stop, constant change of vybes (and volume), which is a shame because it hardly got going. Mystikz at 11? Wish I'd known beforehand...

Guess it wasnt that bad a night, just distinctly average- which is always a bit of a surprise when every time u go Forward or DMZ they seem to get better and better

Saying that it was far better than the bateness of Pendulum's intros

i was pleasantly surprised by the sound system !
definitely not the same vibe than a DMZ party. it was my first time at fabric on a friday, felt like a primary school playground...
really enjoyed iration steppas in room 3. they even played chase the devil, highlight of my night :R:

big up the promotor bringing dub step in,can see this going well there

got battered. heard some fantastic music. expressed my undying love for reso 5 or 6 times. probably annoyed quite a few people.

i'm not sure which one of them was playing but the Al Haca representative was SICK. everyone in the dubstep room played heavy sets but kode9 was the highlight for me

Wicked night!

Only thing I would say is that they needed a sub or two at Chestplate height, couldve done with a lil bit more bottom. But yeah, wicked night.

it was a pretty weird night tbh. never been to fabric before so kinda came having had people tell me its a shithole yet also people who've told me it's a sick club

distance's set was really really good. flawless mixing and long blends. enjoyed mala's set as usual, as people have said, would have been better a bit later perhaps, but obviously that couldnt happen tonight. quite funny watching people's reactions as they walk in. thought plastician and virus sydicate went down really well. great idea putting them on then, really brought the energy up. definitely feeling the grimey sound live, works a lot better that way IMO rather than on a record. silly busy-ness at this stage, couldnt really move. after that was Kode9 who played a really interesting set - a lot of tracks i've never heard before. finally skream b2b hatcha was a wicked way to end. all the classics gettin played, and some sick sounding new bits. litte rewind happy, but hey, all that went out the window when the last tune of the night came on. :o :o :o

saw someone get headbutted next to me after like 1 hour of being in there, few idiots barging past people, didnt see too much other trouble. it was a pretty young crowd, and it seemed that quite a lot were there cos it's fabric, rather than for the music. although the DnB room was sounding quite heavy at times, it wasnt possible to move which pretty much killed it for me.

the system in room 2 was quite good. there was a lot of bass, but it was strange, as it wasn't hitting you in the chest. you could feel it shake you, but it just didn't feel quite right...weird.. as someone mentioned already, could be because the subs are at floor level. also took a while for the system to get turned up, and earlier on it was kinda reverby cos of the vaulted ceiling type thing.

anyway. long post sorry. gotta thank downshifter for putting dubstep in there. even though i'm not sure it entirely worked, it was quite an experience, and a good night out. oh and also stupid drinks prices = water for me.

These are the problems with Fabric. It could be a wicked club, shame about the crowd it attracts.

The queue was ridiculous. We jumped in front of about 1000 people at 10:00 and still had no chance. Some kid threw up in the middle of the queue and there was so many pricks about. In the end we just headed to FWD and soaked up some old garage vibes followed by N-Type for an hour or so. I wasn't too upset really

Personally I thought it was immense. Fair, flow of tracks wasn't constant but then didn't bother me all that much as personally I thought they were mixed well. Maybe I was a little lost in it all to pick up on mixing floors, I dunno, didn't notice any though really.

Was quiet when I got there (volume wise) and most people were just observing and not dancing. Having none of that, rinsed my drink and got involved. Didn't take long for it to fill out towards end of Distances set (who was awesome for the half I saw). As the night wore on though the system got cranked up more and more and it was appreciated by myself in a big way, even worked as I suppose early on it allowed people to talk a bit before going crazy!

Everyone's set's were good to excellent, Mala, Distance and Skream B2B Hatcha were the absolute standouts for me. Managed to say thanks for Skream and get Hatcha to name a track just played, the latter does seem like a top-people person.

Didn't notice any trouble apart from some guys messing about, seemed to be friends. Saw some absolute keeno-girl piss off Skream, think she tried to yoink something but not sure. Seemed uncalled for though but seemed everyone enjoyed themselves which was the major thing.

Can't say I've got much sympathy for people who didn't get in though, get tickets?! Solves all your problems. Sure, if you found out too late fair enough but if you've known long enough, why take your chances for the sake of £2 or something?! My bro didn't get in cos of the que and I missed half of distance to stick with him but still, no sympathy. Props to Downshifter for organising it and sorry I couldn't get in sooner to see your set. Hope this becomes a bit more of a regular thing!
