Buy the tunes you like. Ignore the rest.
Support the artists you like. Ignore the rest.
Write your music from your heart. Ignore the rest.
Talk to like minded people on DSF. Ignore the rest.

Its going to be OK.

i know the name post-dubstep is poorly chosen. but it doesn't sound too bad imo.

Look at it from this point: first you have dubstep, the original sound. Then you have other people hopping on the train making 'other' kind of stuff that isn't really what dubsteps (is)/was all about.
Post-dubstep thus means that we're trying to get OVER (= behind) that and push the good sounds? Idk. To blow new life into what dubstep was and should be (but that's my opinion only).

Re-dubstep / ante-dubstep / nu-dubstep / true-dubstep / and omfg what the fuck why didn't i think of this: neo-dubstep. neo means new if i'm not mistaken?

sorry bro but i have to disagree. the last time i caught a well known double act I was subjected to 20 minutes of inane noise, then I left.

But thats exactly it. I dont like it and I leave. I try not to bitch about it blahblhablha, because their ARE still some people who consistently impress.

I like this idea, 2manynoobs, but yea"post dubstep" sounds pretty gay.

What aboooouuuuuttt,"The Real Shit" or "Allow the studentstep" or "Fuck wobble" ?? :D

Yeah i was exaggerating a bit but still even Skream and Benga (i guess you are reffering to them  ) still make and play some deeper stuff, although not a real balance i agree. Listen to the tracks coming on Skream's album.

Anyway, my point still stands i think. Dubstep sets should always have variety and tunes from across the spectrum. I'd be dissapointed if i went to a night and there was no (tasteful) aggy tunes.

If you're going to do something, do it properly

Take 'DubStep' in it's undiluted form for what it is

Call the other shite something that's humourously derogatary ina subtle way, i.e.:

'DudStep'
'DiluteStep'
'Stepped in Dog Eggs'
'Dung Step'
'DumpStep'

Dubstep and dudstep work well though, haha. Does exactly what th'name suggests

I don't think anything alluding to "post" or "neo" can really include the "pre" which is what you're shooting for.

but, it's kinda a new thing as wel isn't it? the techno/housy crossovers. It all just builds further on original dubstep.
pff i'm just so fucking fed up with seeing flyers with big letters saying dubstep and borgore or rusko.. :(

guess i'll just delete the group. it's a stupid idea anyway. realise that now

I basically agree with you (and I love the idea of 'tasteful aggy tunes' - "uurgh wu-wu-w-w-w-w-w uurgh w-w-wuh urghh SIT ON MY FACE YOU FACKING SLAGS urrgh wu wu eeeergh wuh w-w-w-wuh irrrrr urrrrr IF ITS ALRIGHT WITH YOU, I MEAN") but to me, the divide isn't between nothing but polite, understated, subtle, slinky stuff and nothing but tearout wobblers, it's between DJs, producers, events and punters who get excited by stuff that's varied and unpredictable and people who prefer stuff where they know pretty much what to expect all night. And I'm not really hating on the latter approach, it's just that someone like Ben UFO or Brackles isn't done many favours by having a night where a load of people who would have liked it skipped it because it was labelled dubstep and they didn't want all wobbles all night, and a load of people who did turn up are pissed off because it isn't all wobbles all night.

Although I guess that while there's a load of music and a load of nights around these days that just cover a lot more ground than what most people think of as 'dubstep', but I haven't heard a term for them that doesn't make me want to puke. Maybe it's best to just keep listing stuff as "dubstep / grime / funky / garage / etc" and not get into another whole WOT DO U CALL IT scenario...

Not that I'm endorsing the term or anything but I think 'post' can work, in the sense that it is after the fact of dubstep being established as a genre/sound and a self-conscious re-establishing of what it means or rather a conscious defining as something with specific roots but which cannot be confined within what people on the street are calling dudstep. Kinda like a variation on the word 'postmodernism'. This is kind of my field

Mate Skream live = 1 or 2 deep tunes. Stella Sesh is not representative of his live stuff, unfortunately :)

Fair enough, might be wrong. Got a couple of sets from FWD and another live one and there is the occasional deeper tune. Even if he doesn't really play deeper tunes at least he makes them!

Excellent point man.

Yea his DJ sets are not representative of stella sessions but that's not what he's booked for. I bet their would be a lot of unhappy bunnies if skream just played deep vibes for an hour and a half, the guy is in a position where he's being paid to rinse out (good and bad) wobble for 90 minutes.

But as dubson says, it doesn't even matter because he MAKES tracks for those that would rather have a more pleasant listening experience, which is a win win situation.

Wobble Mongers get the wobble and I can CHOOSE to not see it and just go out and buy the skream tracks I like (even if it is a little disappointing that you won't hear him actually play them, but someone else will)

When the mood suits him he does sometimes play pretty different non-hype stuff though.
