If it wasn't for the British then Americans would all be Native Indians

I don't see that as such a bad thing
Nah me neither... Maybe UKG would have a slightly different approach if so... Panpipes and slightly different drums and rattles... It's got to be done, will be experimenting with this in the future

Needs to come back to how big it was though for definite.

As much as I like a massive dirty banger that makes you shit yourself, it'll never take away from the cool Old School vibes 8)
The 2Step stuff really has no following over here other than in couple of cities at all. But the 93-97 4x4 stuff was just considered regular Garage/Soulful House, that just happened to be from England.

UK Garage when it really became it's own scene around 97never caught on over here, the older Garage/Soulful House heads, just found it cheesy and amateur, and the D&B, Techno, Trance, and Hard Dance crews, taught it was too R&B sounding.

UK Garage like Old Skool Jungle, got caught in that place of sounding to "Urban" for the Rave kids, and too weird for the Urban Crew.

That's why it's no coincidence that D&B did'nt really breakthrough over here till the Techstep and Bad Company sound came to the forefront.

Yet dubstep is, technically, future garage...
yes, but i'm not on about dubstep am i
No, no you are not.
technically future garage is dubstep also...

but soon we end in a philosophical purgatory of categorisation
If you really think about Future Garage is Soulful House, but hey.

I kind of like some of this new garage-type stuff, like Joy Orbison and Mount Kimbie, but generally speaking, I think a lot of UK Garage is boring. Like when I heard that mix, none of the songs really stood out to me, except "Hyph Mngo". Also, I keep confusing UKG with UGK, and that angers me.

was only joking ; )

if i speak honestly i'd argue that UKG is dead (at least in it's original incarnation), so I'm kind of wondering what's being played?

is it locked on/zed bias/mj cole etc etc stuff?

or are we talking just the 2step influenced side of dubstep (hessle audio/whistla/joy orbison/etc)?

i always try to play some of the old stuff, but usually just ends with the floor clearing : (

Seattle has a regular (monthly I believe) club night devoted to UKG and UKG-influenced stuff - an event called "Full Blast". Been going for well over a year now.

It's the Zed Bias/El-B/MJ Cole stuff that's getting a revival a the moment.

we'll that's cool.

to me it's easily some of the funnest music to dance too so it'd be nice if there was a lil revival.

i'm not sure there's enough support where i live though.

people have either moved completely on or are too young to remember it.
