This. Though outside of spots here and there it's all tear out wobble bullshit. I played Quest's new tune for someone the other day and they said (with a straight face) "wow this is like progressive dubstep." After facepalming I explained how in the rest of the world we just call it "dubstep" and everything else they've been hearing is just shitty music.
yeah, what can you do
seattle knows dubstep, the only problem is 80% of the people think it's just tearout/clowny wobblefest stuff... pretty sure people think that everywhere tho these days. oh well! that just means it's easier to drop jaws with something different and fwd>>

I had Joe Nice play for Minneapolis last night, and a very informed someteen year old sage informed us that our and Joe's sets were not in fact dubstep.
Vaski and Excision are dubstep, he informed us, and we were all being duped or by his implications, propagating a fraudulent version.
yep.

Surprisingly, burlington vermont (USA) is popping off at the moment, we are thought of as a rural state but the vibes are great here, Headhunter and Joe Nice are coming next month , we get a good name here every couple months, big up the 2k Deep Crew holding it down. Also there is a free weekly at that pops off about every week (Bass Culture- Club Metronome w/ Jahson, Nickel B, and guests). There is also some killer local production here, we are having an EP release party for Guttstar- (Title: Battery Hues EP), check him out on facebook/soundcloud, crazy talent.

Manchester is full of dubstep nights, we get the mainstream big name stuff with the warehouse project and once every month or so there's usually something with big names. Hit and Run is weekly and gets a pretty broad selection of dnb and dubstep.
Dubstep started out being a back room at dnb nights and now its sort of taking over, to the dismay of fans of every other genre/sub-genre. Everyone moans about too much hypey wompy womp dubstep, but it's what fills dancefloors so its everywhere. There is a good selection here though, most people would be grateful, the locals are starting to tire of it a bit.
(Is this not the same pattern its following everywhere?)
It's the same old complaint that happens with every genre anyway, I just roll my eyes and feel happy there's lots of people interested compared to most of the world.
I hear just as many people complain that there's too much long boring ambient dubshit as I do complaining there's too much wompy wompy robo noises, and jump-up dnb vs liquid vs nuero vs gabba etc. It's just not all of them post on internet forums!
Yeah the scene is pretty good here

The same thing happened here in San Diego two weekends ago. Datsik was in town playing at the House of Blues. There were a little over 800 attendees there.
DJG was on the same night and attendees were 110 at the most. A couple of hours before the party started, we found out that he had ear infection, so it got cut into half right away (from what it looked like when I got there). Still, the party continued with a suggested donation of $3-$5 dollars. Funny thing was, at 12:30, Datsik shows up at the party, wanted to go on the deck, and after a good talk with Sublml (who put the party together), he played 95% dubstep (read: SUBBASS, only a couple of chainsaw) for 40 minutes or so. Honestly, he gained a couple of respect points from me. I still can't tolerate his shit, but he's a pretty cool lad.
And to summarize the scene here in SD. It's a lot smaller than LA. New promoters do not even try to communicate with the guys who have been throwing down since day one. It's all about money-making. Dubstep shows bimonthly at a hipster bar drenched with hipsters and college kids, grinding each other worse than to an R&B song, and/or moshing, which I try to avoid. A couple of good shows at least once a month that a lot of regulars go to, which I am always present. Such a hassle to live across the pond in the southwestern end. It's all a waiting game if you want the good shit, but we do well with our DJs too.

I live in a small town near chicago. Its got a lotta people. But i think its safe to say that im one of the only people that even know what dubstep is in it. Or even drum n bass, or house. Everyone listens to shiity pop and justin beiber. So its pretty gay.

Croydon really doesnt have as big a scene as it should!!! Apart from Croydub it seems really hard to attract a decent crowd, even an event i played with Plastician, Hatcha, and Cyrus didnt even get rammo and was only 10quid to get in.

My little town hasn't ever really had anything to shout about, although this friday Nero is playing here, so hopefully itl go somewhere from there.
Its weird though i live 6 miles from Leamington which has alot more Dubstep and loaaads of DnB. Totally different nightlife.
I quite happily make the trek from midlands to London though. I fucking love London.

cigarettes who JUST rave about pop remixes and youtube tearout nonsense.
Few older friends (17-20) who dig Coki and Skream, and that kinda stuff. I like it all really.
