ADHD is often over-diagnosed, but it exists nonetheless. Autism isn't 'on the rise', our diagnostic tools are better now than they were 150 years ago. Back then everyone was either 'normal' or 'insane' and was either killed, banished or put in jail if they were the latter. Even just a few decades ago, Asperger was called 'childhood schizophrenia' and 'borderline personality disorder' was considered 'borderline schizophrenia', hence the name. But since then, our understanding of autism and mental disorders has greatly increased. Though I do believe we're not quite
there yet and need to be a bit more cautious with labels.
Sometimes, people do get unnecessary labels. Some psychiatrists truly are gung-ho on sticking a label onto you without any proper testing and if you experience that, the first thing you gotta do is switch psychiatrists. Stat. But that's truly not always the case and very few mental health patients go through only a single psychiatrist.
Asthma and allergies have both been linked to things like pollution.
