@Biisi- i like the bassline, reminds me of skreams blipstream crossed with that yolanda be cool track. I not so much a fan of the drum samples you've used especially the kind of white noise snare, but I really like the eclectic feel to this track- the kind of running rhythms. Nice work mate!

@Craggle- The hi-hats in the intro are a bit piercing, you might want to turn them down, but the rhythm they create is pretty smooth, the rhtythm keeps this track going even through the high pitch thing, I think it needs to be an octave lower really, it's just a tad tooo high. I think the sub also needs to be brought up to give it more of a BAM factor in the drop as well. Good track in terms of danceability but the texture's a bit thin

@Steeze- never really been into drum and bass but i like the vocals in this, and the beat's fast and danceable, but still mellow. All I can say is that there isnt much weight to it, bass wise, but thats just personal preferrence, nice tune.

@ Rat Race - I had written a big long summary of your tune Blindside but fuck it i'll sum it up in one word "un - be - lieveable" I love the bassline everything, I downloaded it too :)
Great production! If i was to flaw it I would suggest making that first long breakdown comes in at 1.15 and not 1.58 as for a drowd this would be much better! Great song though:)

@ Samkablaam - really dark! Its a cool track overall, love the shots and vocals. In my opinion the bassline is too sub and dark, this could be real floor filling dubstep tune if you changed up that bassline to a nice subby wobble, nothing distorted with like 1000 lfo settings just a simple syncopated flowing wobble! Would be imense

@ Craggle - Loved the intro and the song was calling for a more melodic bass line! That wobble killed it in my opinion! Like that sample at 0.27 would sound great with a nice melody but the constant distorted kinda wobble just really let the track down! Just my opinion! The mix and everything was good but i'd just try a different bassline and maybe a few brass/horn samples?

I need to get feedback on this :) Was an unfinished project but I think leaving it as this is the best option atm! Mix isn't my best either

@samkablaam: Really feeling this Style tune mate. Really good choice of percussion. Youve created a decent atmosphere too by keeping it so minimal. Reminds me of some of a Kryptic Minds tune called "Hybrid." Take that as a big compliment mate. Keep up the good work.

@abs: Liking the furthest star tune. Takes me back to the day of old skool garage. Im liking the trippy samples and interlude part too. Nice work

@arktrix: Sick tune mate. Reminds me a bit of Caspas earlier stuff like "louder" and "for the kids." Nice dark vibe. Tune would go off in a rave mate.

Alrite guys, havent posted on here in a while, but here's my remix of "What you talking about" by Redlight & Ms Dynamite. Not really my usual style, more of a dancefloor based track, but have a listen and any feedback and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

john_neenan
cool bouncing synth! :D With the vocal it works very well, drop is SICK! BIG UP
Max4Beats
at 0.17 the pad gets really messy, good drums on the drop though!
Craggle
Nice intro, the bass is crazy, but it sounds like its clipping, sort that out. -q- The snare/drumwork is great

Here is a tune, its waaaay softer than the tunes I usually do since I'm one of those "brosteppers" -r-
Nah but really, since I heard Burial - Near Dark I got hooked to his work

ninthy4, sounds very interesting. I like the percussion and the pads, I don't really like that vocal sample though, subbass sounds nice as well.
john_neenan, sounds like the sub is pushing the rest away. But it might be just me and my shit speakers, sounding pretty nice otherwise.
Max4Beats, the pads don't sound right or something. Good drums in the drop, very enjoyable sub. Not really digging that synth melody.

This is a remix i did for my friend pH-14, it's pretty 'brosteppy' you could say.

Here's a older, more mellow track.

First things first thanks for all your kind words lads your time is very much appreciated.

Time for some more reviewing!

Ninthy/ i would bring the percussion up a bit but other than that fookin loving this one bud, cracking tune, awesome mixdown. Love it can you hook me a download up?

John neenan/ mixdown is not spot on but its holding its own. Loving the ideas soudns well grimey and suits the track to a tee, good stuff downloaded

Some bangers on here this month lads good work!!

Max beats/ thanks for you kind comments mate. YOu can tell this is unfinished mate the quality of the track dont get near to your other stuff. some really hot ideas in here though i actually LOVE that "pan pipes" synth. so good ideas here mate, lots of potential.

Huty Luty/ original and pretty deep. The pads are too loud and mid range muddy, percussion needs to be brought up a bit as well. arrangement on the percussion is nice.
Not bad but needs a good mix down and some of the melody keys etc need checking.

Aez/mix down is not bad. Some of those narsty bass sounds and sound effects are sick mate. Bass synth is pretty good, not diggin the chords progression myself. i think that you have almost over done the effects etc, kinda eats the percussion up. listen to the break were theres not so many fx and bass and you can here how nice n crisp the percussion is n you crush it with the rest of the track. I would actually simplyfy this a little and its a winner. Good work.

My new one is blindside, top in my sig.. or review any of them lol, let me know what you think, !peacE!

nonXero - Halogen (DubtroniX LP)

Post by nonXero » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:17 pm

@Deathtrap beats are good but it's a bit repetitious. I would definitely try to throw in a break or two to change up the beat and keys more.

@Max4Beats Yo man.. good stuff! Diggin the new life track and the reggae dubs. Well produced!

@Sykes_Dubstep Like the remix man... maybe I'll fit in an episode of 1N 7H3 M1X TV (http://www.youtube.com/nonXero). I'm always on the lookout for new grime remixes/mashups to use..

actually I wasn't sure whether to put this in here on in "unfinished tunes"... But what the hell...
there you go. I sampled colplay's "The Scientist" for this tune. please comment and tell me what you think!
(I'm kinda new to all the "mixing and mastering" issue, so i suppose it might be my weak side.

couple more here

Jack Mat/ wow, this is original. its a little busy at time for my liking but the ideas are hot. Nice sub bass, percussion is good and its a pretty good mix down as well. Keep these coming definately stands out, good stuff

Fatach/ some cool ideas here, synths are all a little basic you should layer them up a bit and tweak um out. Melody progression is nice. lacking the subage though. Some cool and original ideas again, sounds a little bit squashed almost like over mixed? sampling is quite good as well, dont hesitate to shout for advice n ill do my best :P

Dubtronix/ sounds a bit too middy on the bassline for me, not subby enough. Some cool sounds but i think its too glitchy kills the flow of the track. Not a bad go but cant say it fits into any catergory for me, i.e. progressive or dancefloor, commercial or grimey its just kinda sounds to me. mix down aint too bad though and again its original

Blindside is my new one, feel free to visit my SC (some tracks a locked to SC coz of copyright laws :'() let me know what you think.!peace!

First this, i'm still a beginner, so if you do not agree with my criticism, it's probably just because i'm not experienced enough to give serious criticism.
@nonXero, tracks like that tell me that i have a long way ahead of me before i'll be a good producer. Love the build-up, and although you only use two chords (even two notes most of the time), it doesn't get boring because of the awesome synths and lil atmospheric elements. I'd love to hear it in a show one day.
@Fatach, i love your beat, and your synths are real nice too, but indeed, i'm missing some EQ'ing and Compressing. Also, it might be the fact that i'm listening without subwoofer here, but i'm missing quite a lot of bass. You've cut too much in the synths, i'd leave some more low frequencies. And i can't here a sub at all. There is a sub but it's not nearly as powerfull as should be. Also, Maybe you should play the piano part from "the scientist" yourself instead of sampling it, it gives you more space to mix it into your own song. And the chords are pretty easy, so that wouldn't be the problem. Love it though!
@ninthy4, I'm loving this one ! I haven't got much to say on this one, it's epic mate. Just this: maybe it's just me, but i prefer a really filled out soft snare (rim?) in this kind of music. reverbed, widened, you know what i'm talking about. :-)

And here's mine - It's still pretty awfull, but i'll get there eventually. It's not the dubstep i prefer listening to, but i wanted to try something "Doctor P"-alike. (mostly for experimenting with formants & stuff)
Don't be shy, i know it's not great :D

ok, first i'll reply about what u said... yeah- I might've cut too much of the synths, I'll check that out... playing the chords myself- I actually did that in the beginning, but I prefer the sampled ones, to get the overall atmosphere... I EQed like a madman I think... so maybe I haven't got that right, but I don't understand your say about missing some EQing....

about your tune: I like the chorus. one thing though - the upbeat makes me dance to it in an odd way. I would personally take it off, i dunno, I just don't like the swing of it. on the other hand its original so that's good. also I don't know what, but i'm missing something in the intro (shit, that's not helpful! )

Myeah, it's not that the chords aren't good, it's just that your limited then, in the sound as well as in the music itself.
And yeah, it really gives a high frequency feeling to me, and since dubstep is really bassy music without doubt, it feels a bit empty and not like a chorus. But like i said at the top of my post, it could just be me. :)

Thanks. I suppose you mean the upbeat in the chorus, that goes "uuuuuuw". I have been hesitating to take it away. It just that it has a really late attack and makes it stringe. I'll try automating the attack for the upbeat.
And maybe the intro is a bit empty, my music always tends to be that way. I'll look into that. I produce with Reason at the moment, so that also limits me in my sampling and make own lil atmospheric sounds.

Thanks !

actually I meant the upbeat that sounds like an accordion... I don't think that's what you meant... also noticed obviously you are working w/ reason cuz of the name of the tune "malstrom" haha... i'm working with reason rewired to cubase... :D

The little skanky chords? That's just how reggea/dub works man :P it would sound really empty without that upbeat skank. :D

+3 did you sample Moderat for the second tracks drums or did you build it from scratch? Either way sounds wicked! If its from scratch how long did it take you to make?

Rmonik/ tell you what bud not a bad go at all. The mixdown needs a lot of work just to put each sound in its right place on the freq spectrum. Sounds nice n bouncy n original. tell you what its not studio quality but i found myself enjoyin it mate so your doin summat right! some cool chords and melodies, just work on the mix down and making your synths sound a bit more full. they are a little weak and "plasticy". nice start tho mate its sounds like you got the ear for the technical stuff and the melodies so will be listenin out for some newans!

Blindside is my newest which is top in my sig, feel free to visit the soundcloud page if you can be bothered :P. !peace!

@ nonXero, really like them samples in the intro. The mix sounds pretty good, the kick is nice and meaty, but the snare sounds very thin to me.The intro was a bit to long for me, and the track did not really grab my attention.

@ ratrace, the sub sounds good, the midrange bass sounds a bit quite in place, and the drums could do with some more beef. some parts of this track I like, and some parts sound a little out of place fight the vibe of the tune. Like the drum fill in the middle just sound a little out of place, maybe automate the volume, or a filter on it, so it sneaks in.

@aez, the intro made me excepted something eles. this mix is very harsh in the hi end, tame them hi's. very moody track, but the mixs needs some work imo.

@ ninthy4, intro is very nice. like the groove in the drums, them hats are very good. the sub could be with a few db less, and be a more pure sine wave imo, also think the could have a little more smack here. Top work, this track has a very nice vibe, from start to finish.

New track from me, a little on the bro side -r-
