"Heartical HiFi Outernational
The project started in 2002 when Derek M began to draw up the plans for what was to be Victoria’s first ever custom built dub/reggae soundsystem. It was self funded on a shoestring budget taking many years to build until it was finally ready for play in 2006.
Consisting of custom built audio equipment, a number of speaker boxes and amps, Heartical HiFi boasts the ability to deliver the music like no other. At the heart of the system a special type of pre-amp is used, This enables the sound system to be played live, and by using extended EQ control, echo, reverb and special effects Heartical HiFi is given its original and unique character.
Heartical HiFi Outernational’s live shows. Deliver the music in fine style, playing high grade selections in classic reggae revive, dub, digital roots and original dancehall, all forwarded with the anticipation of a mighty bass drop!"
It does look pretty f-ing hench!

Re: DMZ soundsystem
Matter had some kind of vibrating floor that added to the bass weight in the main room. I remember seeing Youngsta there a few times and the highlight for me was Kryptic Minds - Badman. Unbelievable bass pressure! That main room was so epic and huge, prefered the pure scale of the building. Really felt like a superclub and special when you went but the location and jubilee line killed it off. The lighting in there was mostly from all of the installed projectors, designed by the pixel addicts. Thought that was a pretty original concept. They projected FWD logos all over the place.murky21 wrote:ye matter sound system was wicked. if you stood in the right place in the main room there was a lot of weight. Probably was slightly better than fabric, but i quite like fabric think the layout was designed better. Considering they built Matter from scratch and they had a shit load of space to play with I dont think they did a great job in the design- room 2 was just a weird long corridor, room one had the dj booth in a bit of a shit place too, plus in general didnt think the place had much character, which fabric does. Its a massive shame Matter has gone, but only for the line-ups which you now miss out on. Both funktion1's in PP and corsica are pretty sick, probably my two favourite clubs
I dislike the layout of Fabric and it feels like a cattle market, it actually used to be a meat packing warehouse lol which explains why its such a labyrinth to navigate (when totally pissed up can never find room 3 haha.
Re: DMZ soundsystem
Gotta agree that Funktion 1's are my preferred, mainly because they're pretty much the standard for most london clubs nowadays so you can get used to a certain sound and actually know what you're hearing.
Although I have to say that Channel One (and there was another dub system across the street, can't remember the name) at this year's carnival was some serious chestplate business

Re: DMZ soundsystem
pretty sure fabric room 1 has subs in the floor? could be wrong. I hear you tho....went to Rinse vs FWD>> November 20th last year and remember yunx dropping Badman and it sounded seeerious.....being on the o2 was sick, and coming out at sunrise right on the thames over looking City was epic.... jubilee line closures long tho, our crew probably should own shares in Addison Lee the amount of money we spent trying to get there.. haha, didnt know used to be a meat packing warehouse, not much has changed to be fair, true is a labyrinth and theres a few bottle-necks there that can be a bastard if is busyPromise One wrote: Matter had some kind of vibrating floor that added to the bass weight in the main room. Re: DMZ soundsystem
Matter was the one. The line ups were that stacked you were spoilt for choice. The system was weighty especially when the under floor subs were on, I remember youngsta dropping Distance - No Warning, bass weight was too much! The design of the main room was based on a Colosseum, reminded me of the film gladiator. Around the sides of the pit you had several tiers where you could dance and almost have a birds eye view of everyone going nutty. The lights that randomly came out of the floor were insane, you could be busting the most standard move but the light came on, it would transform the move into something out of Street Fighter 4.
All the FWD>> + Rinse Night at Matter were unbelievable. One of the many highlights at Matter was the time Dizzee invaded Plastician's set!

Mungo's Rig for dubstep every time, those guys know what their doing and that rig is the closest thing to a custom built dubstep rig that i can think of. After that i would definately go for a Void rig every time. This is what DIRT are running last time i checked? Void definately win over funktion1 for bass music. Funktion1 wins out for techno/house but if you dont get the warmth of bass nearly as well as with void, although turbosound are also making big moves at the moment imo.
Nothing comes close to a custom build though, and mungo's win for me on the dubstep scene.
Also anyone who says that a clubs install is better than a custom build is mad, if your a producer/promoter and you build your own sound you build something specifically designed for the style of music your pushing- a club install has to cater for everything. Also most people who run soundsystems in my experience know a hell of a lot more than most club engineers.
Iration win though

Yeah, Dirt is running a Void system now. It's utterly insane. Funktion 1 is great and all, but once you've heard a proper decent system, it just falls a bit flat, particularly in the bass aspect. The Mungos rig is without a doubt the cleanest sounding thing I've heard.midnight toker wrote:Mungo's Rig for dubstep every time, those guys know what their doing and that rig is the closest thing to a custom built dubstep rig that i can think of. Iration fucks my ears right up, have to draw for the earplugs but even then it's painful. They red light the rig constantly, surprised the thing doesn't cause buildings to collapse.

Funktion 1 are overrated, promoters just want them to put on the flyer/because the punters can recognise them and think they're hearing the best of the best. Still great audio though obviously. Void > Turbosound > F1 personally.

Re: DMZ soundsystem
sorry but this thing about funktion one being less of a standard because its in a club is silly. every venue has different acoustic issues. some rooms are bright and too reflective, and some rooms just trap certain frequencies more than others. soundsystems that are brought into different venues are obviously not going to know exactly how a room will sound when empty or full until they get there. by default a club thats paid to have funktion one (which is a fuckload of cash. some of their cabinets can cost 5 figures each) installed into a room, is going to have the room tested, acoustically treated and tweaked for the rooms acoustics. room 1 at fabric for example, has an electronic preset system, with customized computer dj profiles, so that when caspa or whomever comes in, they just load in the caspa profile into the controller, and the system is set, and crossovers set for dubstep. clubs that have the money for funktion one, generally know why they have spent that sort of cash.

At Ministry the soundsystem adjusts via the eqs when the humidity changes in the room.

We've used funktion one before and as far as tops go, the clarity is probably the best i've heard. As far as sub-bass is concerned though, they're inferior to a lot of rigs out there. This is why we chose a different system. For dubstep, funktion one's just don't quite cut it for me.
