Really? That's fitting I suppose. If they'd have gone to Long Road they'd probably all have ended up working in McDonald'sparavrais wrote:Pink Floyd went to Hills RoadJemGrover wrote:I would rather like to try this, but I'm back at Uni next week and plan to put my all into that 'cos I kind of bailed on it last semester a bit, aha
I will say though that I'm liking the concept album approach quite a lot, so it might be something to aim for
Is it exclusively EDM- based? I'm feeling in a guitar mood and not picked mine up in months and seeing as Syd Barrett was a local boy (my mum's Ex used to pick him up regularly in his Taxi which blows my mind, haha) it could be refreshing to do a lot of guitar bits

Well from what I have read this was more aimed at traditional musicians/ song writes, and the EDM heads jumpped on ship later. If you look on their site their are people making all sorts of stuff.JemGrover wrote:Is it exclusively EDM- based? Man you should still go for it, but yeah if i even just had kids I think that would kill off most of my production time, let alone a wife, and a job.abZ wrote:I have a job and 2 kids, wife, etc. I probably am not going to get it done realistically. But I am not even going to try 14 tracks. In the 70's that was considered a double LP. Like I say 2 - 15 minute sides. Fuck a cd.
Now that is something I would buy, if you do this let me know.64hz wrote:im gonna make a hip hop mixtape version of jimi hendrix greatest hits.

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
The worst part is I am just tired all the time. I am getting old and staying up past midnight on a weekday is not a good idea anymore. My youngest is 2 now. I think in a few years they will go off on their own more. Can come home from work and do my thing all evening sometimes. Yeah it's tough but I love making music so I am going to do it no matter what. It's just frustrating because I know I could write so much better stuff if I had more time to put into it.3za wrote:Well from what I have read this was more aimed at traditional musicians/ song writes, and the EDM heads jumpped on ship later. I don't know bro... my daughter is 5, and when she is awake, I'm pretty much in the no music zone. There are times when I can work on it, but I kinda like to really zone up and work on music, dim lights, dead silence, you know proper vibey shit. Can't do that with the kid around. Kid is 100x better than making music though, so it is a good deal.
Something that I've been working on, and maybe you should consider a bit, though from the sound of one of your tracks, maybe you already have, is working on more jam oriented music - where a lot of the music happens live, and then you just gotta kind of cut it up and massage it into place.
The pure production music, like sitting down and methodically crafting each beat, each measure, each phrase, each section, each transition, each.... it gets long, you know?

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
hell yeah I'm up for this. i've got school but a man's gotta set his priorities. I'm wondering how a dubstep concept album would even work. Like what kind of themes are there that fit to this genre? Except the obvious brosteppy kind of "Megatron having sex with blabla".
I keep thinking Indian vibes, kinda ethnic drums with a lot of crazy bongos going on. But would that even qualify as a concept album? I think I should stack up on energy drinks and snacks
Feels like a lot of all-night jamsessions are gonna happen in february.
edit: whats FAWM's stance on collaborations and feature tracks? Can I collab with people and have some feature tracks and still count those as some of my 14 tracks? Or would that be cheating

They encourage, collabs might slow you down imo.s3f wrote: whats FAWM's stance on collaborations and feature tracks? Can I collab with people and have some feature tracks and still count those as some of my 14 tracks? Or would that be cheating
The way I see the rules are make 14 tracks in 28 days, how ever you want.
Thats how I like to work, having lots of gear helps with this (I think thats a lie to myself, to make my gear lust feel like its their for a reason).nowaysj wrote:Something that I've been working on, and maybe you should consider a bit, though from the sound of one of your tracks, maybe you already have, is working on more jam oriented music - where a lot of the music happens live, and then you just gotta kind of cut it up and massage it into place.

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
It actually only takes me about 2 hours. I am ready to change it up tho. Last two tunes each I used sounds recorded on my phone. One a percussion line drummed on my desk and another from the science center I grabbed some hits off this marimba they had. I am enjoying this. I think I am ready to invest in a pair of condensers and roll up the sleaves. Fuck I only have one phantom input tho.nowaysj wrote:I don't know bro... my daughter is 5, and when she is awake, I'm pretty much in the no music zone. Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
why would a collab slow me down? if the other producer is somewhat experienced it might even be faster. also: I think there's no point in bangin out 14 weak tracks just for the heck of it3za wrote: ... collabs might slow you down imo.

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
Well from personal experience I have always found collabs to be slower, than working on my own. Their is a load of reasons they can take more, different workflows, different outlook on the track, different gear, arguing, finding the time to work together, and the list go's on...s3f wrote:why would a collab slow me down? if the other producer is somewhat experienced it might even be faster.
It might be faster for you, but I don't think it would work for me.
I think your missing the point heres3f wrote: also: I think there's no point in bangin out 14 weak tracks just for the heck of it![]()

Wait that's in the rules, 14 tracks? That's kinda crazy tbh. I couldn't do 14 unless they were pretty short and sucked. I could defo do it but it would be a snooze fest.

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
I suggest 12 tracks which is what I'm doing anyways.

Thats what they say this year, but I see it as more of a guide line, than set in stone rule.abZ wrote:Wait that's in the rules, 14 tracks? That's kinda crazy tbh. I couldn't do 14 unless they were pretty short and sucked. I could defo do it but it would be a snooze fest.

I'm doing this for sure. Looking forward to pulling my guitar out and seeing what happens when I add Massive and some 808s to the mix haha.
I hope February is going to be a slow month at work, because you bet your ass I'm bringing my laptop in to work on this during the day.

Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
Yeah I know. Tbh I would be extatic if I finished a 4 song EP. Hell I'd be happy if I made one good tune in February. I like the challenge tho.3za wrote:Thats what they say this year, but I see it as more of a guide line, than set in stone rule.abZ wrote:Wait that's in the rules, 14 tracks? That's kinda crazy tbh. Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
That's impossible. It takes me about 20hours a tune. 14 tunes would take me 280 hours which is more time than I spend at work in a month. I would have to take a month off of work and work 12 or 14 hour days OR find a faster way to write.
Maybe I should try to find a faster way to write.
I would need to prep because I would have maybe 40 or 50 hours in a month TOPs I could devote.
I wouldn't be able to spend more than 3 hours on each tune.
If I was going to do it, I would have to record everything live. Not do any sound design. Keep things more minimal/use less layering. I would need to organize out kits so I could basically hop in the daw and hit record and play the drum. Play the bass. Then make a variation. Then a transition between them. Intro outro and on to the next piece.
I could maybe do it if it methodically planned how I was going to write. I'm inspired by the idea and might see if I could actually really write a song in two or three hours but I doubt I would ever want to post it where I think pretty much every tune I write now I enjoy listening to it myself.
