Dubstep with real instruments?

Bit of a waste of a real drummer too.

understand where your coming from but disagree, if that were the case then London elec. would be wasting there drummer.

Not really the same thing I think, he's a jazz/jungle drummer so he gets to play loads of crazy stuff, he's great. I guess I was just imagining a lot of people's idea of dubstep drums as an ultra-sparse half time kick/snare pattern.

Id assume an electric drum kit with some kind of glitcy break elements would be whats needed. altho he would have to play hats too....

They play live electronica, mostly they merge different genres, sometimes you can hear dubstep influences.
There are many other bands that play electronica and something close to dubstep with live instruments, like Miloopa, Trifonic and so on, you just have to search.

Personally i play some dubstep with live instruments too, as me and several of my electronica friends have rock background and we play acoustic instruments. Sadly i dont have any examples at the moment.
There is one thing about playing any electronic genre with acoustic instruments - you can get sound close or identical to real electronica, but no one wants to do that, because you can do that with synths and pc, however you cant replicate sound of real instruments (even if you use live effects and processing). Also you can experiment with song strucutre alot differently. In my opinion, live electronica is jazz of 21st century.

Interesting train of thoughts. If you look at it that way, any type of music is possible to come out. Im curious to what people will produce in the next ten years, looking forward to it.

a beat is a beat is a beat. it's harder to keep tempo on 'slow' tracks, especially live, unless you're linked in to a click track.

with my downtempo project, we've gigged with me on bass, a dj on scratch with stripped down tracks and a drummer. the drummer gets the click, and any other live instruments play to the drummer. that's how a 'normal' band would do it, so that there's the chemistry of a live performance. that's the issue i think, really, when it all boils down, the only real advantage or gain to a live performance is the chemistry.

if you're all playing to a click, the timing will be off, and you might as well be in a studio. imho.
