nice one for that mista jam

ignore the twattish comments - it's par for the course here

it's inevitable that you have to pander to the masses to some extent at 11pm on a saturday night on the bcc so as long as other styles are represented i'm sure people will understand. mary anne wasn't confined to those restrictions so much at the time she played, and it was an entirely different show anyway so it's not worth comparing really

Respect! I never started this thread with the intent of making it some massive amount of silly comments thrown towards the Jam himself. I just made it to tell everyone watagwan!

Bruv, look at the Pure Garage cds back in the day...I bought my first one (Vol 2) for Monsta Boy - Sorry and probably Flowers and tunes like that...and finished up with 138 Trek & So Solid - Dilemma being my favourite tunes. You can't just throw the darkest tunes at people and expect them to understand it/ appreciate it...you gotta draw them in with what they're familiar with, and hope they pick up a love for more experimental sounds...

Or just play em Vex'd for an hour and collapse their soul.

Shouts to Mistajam...the minute that History Of Dubstep thing came about, it was obvious you (and the ppl involved with your show) wanted to educate. Big ups. While I may not lock on the regular, I can rest assured that you will be doing your thing in the right way.
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

Spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.

Bring forth Quest, the chemist.

Perhaps you're right... I'm still not convinced. It's like UKF, trying to educate his brostepper crowd by posting forthcoming Fused Force (for example) or whatever deeper sounds, do you genuinely think people would take that as granted and say "okay let's dig out of the channel" ? Obviously, we are NOT in the UKF case but I think that's what's going to happen. And I was mentioning the car because Quest is mostly about bass and unless you have your radio in a good rig you will not be feeling it. But I don't want to lower the debate by bringing back the ever-brilliant "brostep" argument. And I'm sure Mistajam will do a great job.

Also... Thanks for reminding me of the Pure Garage cds, playing vol 1 right now

This thread is a lesson in why not to judge someone based on (largely bullshit) assumption. Absolutely idiotic.

Bit more respect for MistaJam now after that reply, and from the nature of his reply I'm inclined to say fair enough. Maybe his show won't appeal as much to heads who are into deeper/older stuff, but I suppose he is still pushing the scene and his listeners may end up getting into what most of us here would call good dubstep, even if it only 5% of them it's still better than nothing.

On a side note, don't often see anyone slating Crazy D and he says brok out a shitload :6: :P

I cant see any harm in mistajam's show at all.

In fact isnt his show a good thing as its an entry level.

Loads of music scene's have this. You get Radio shows and events playing "popular" stuff which is the entry level... people like it... find out more... get to know the roots. and put their efforts into the scene making it grow?

Die hards and pro-sceners dont have to listen to it but you have to respect its brought in millions more fans in the past few years.

Personally I dont listen to Mistajam as I feel I know how to find things without listening to national radio. I do check his tracklistings though and have a "listen again" go when I see a mix or something I like.

I also really cant stand Rnb and I remember discovering mistajam early last year and he played quite a bit of it. And I think RnB is the aids of the music industry. Rotting it from the inside out.

If this saturday night show is less RnB and I can listen to it without a computer (e.g. on the radio to gigs) Ill most deffo tune in as Grooverider is getting well pants lately.

Is 1Xtra now on non digital radio?

I had a listen to his show the first time a few weeks ago. I do see the point on Mistajam making dubstep part of the popular genres but from my point of view it doesn't have the similar atmosphere as to what Mary Anne Hobbs had on her show on BBC Radio 1 which was out of this world as she doesn't play one specific genre. I'm not saying Mistajam killed dubstep, I'm saying that he sees dubstep in a different perspective from what I see because when I discovered dubstep it felt like I was entering into a world full of dark electronic beats.

fair play mistajam, i love that you're getting some proper tunes on mainstream radio, i listen to it a fair bit, and some of the 'daily dose of dubstep' things are awesome, certainly makes my work go quicker!
