its rare that i can listen to a tune on repeat without getting sick of it. initiation is most definitely one of those

those pitched vocals are a sick joke!

Yesyesyes hands down the best track by him/the xo crew. I hear on various, albeit pretty unstable sources, that Echoes of Silence is out Wednesday -q-

Had it playing on repeat last night and today had House of Balloons and Thursday on the go again.

Both albums are very hit or miss for me.
I absolutely love the style of the weeknd though, they really put a lot of macho hip-hop cliché's to the test and manage to really alienate their audience through downright depressing lyrical content coupled with rather melodious productions.
Any way, I think Balloon Houses has three or four absolutely great tracks, but also 3-4 I always skip. The same for Thursday. But I've enjoyed the tracks I like immensely.

I still play both his albums at least twice a week, there's only a couple of songs here and there that I don't love. I've had House of Balloons since June and it's already one of my most played albums ever. Really hope there's big things ahead for this guy, he deserves it

yeah i get what people say about the good tunes being amazing, and the bad ones being plain awful.. but i love the mood it sets and the general aesthetics of it all.

anyone seen the live videos on youtube? either he's completely reliant on auto-tune or just a terrible singer live, in nearly all the videos i've watched he hardly hits any right notes :(

It's kind of hard to judge based on a youtube video though, I mean none of them are of that high quality. Every written article I've read on his performance seems to be largely positive.

I hate nearly all of R&B but The Weeknd is a don, Glass Table Girls is such a tune and the bass in High For This is incredible.. a truely sensational opening song for a great album! Looking forward to more!

:corndance:

This has made my day. It's the perfect blend of darkness and effects that I felt was either too much or too lacking on tracks from Thursday. Weeknd are hands down the best thing to come out of 2011.

EDIT: How fucking sick is it in XO/The Host when Initiation gets introduced?Aw mann

I like it better than Thursday. But again, the majority of the tracks are pretty meh. Not even touches "House of Balloons". Novelty has worn off a bit to be honest.

*R&B album :W:

Joeki, you're really one of the only people I've seen online with that opinion. The tracks most definitely aren't meh, they're just not to your taste.

+1 to buying a triple pack of these albums, if they get a CD release I'll be buying them all on day 1. Its kinda annoying that the artist I most want to support with a purchase and own physical copies of is the one not actually selling his music, but can't really complain about this much quality for free :corndance:

Yes, that's what I said, I think they're MEH. Not all of them though.
