released back in 2006 on my Madlands Trilogy (on Ad Noiseam), but recorded in 1998. It may have been 13 years ago, but to my ears, it is still 13 years ahead of its time.
improv baby: cello, flute, saxophone, drums, guitar and analog synths (specifically serge modulars).

Re: Who's Actually Experimenting?
I've fucked around with adding guitar effects to my turntables. Also making beats with only scratched sounds layered up on each other, and only using a Ween record or some random childrens record for extra limitations. It was definitely mix master mike that inspired me to do the effects thing on the wheels of steel, and the invisible scratch picklez that inspired me to do the layered scratch beats. They were doing that shit in the 90's so I'm not claiming I'm doing something new, just doing something that is fun to do when your bored, or stoned with your friends.
Maybe I'm regressing because I want to keep building up a studio with hardware and wires and using the computer for recording or a little part of the sound rather than the computer being the only or main thing making sounds.

Bigup everyone moving differently!
Re: Who's Actually Experimenting?
@Original post (not poster).
Its not experimenting, its trying to hard to be different...
Experimentation is something which is personal - its looking at your music and then finding ways to expand your knowledge of writing music.
Just because you make some noises no one likes and put it through your Mums hoover then circuit bent your oven doesn't make it cool and experimental...........
jus' sayin'.
Don't think I am being a "hater" (gawd I hate that saying) .. I love the works of Eno and such - I just hate people calling stuff what is aimed at a club or for non-sound geeks "experimental" or "intelligent" (though, no ones called anything that in this thread).
Its actually more pretentious than the "art cigarette" thread.
Most of my JustAnotherAlias stuff is quite different from my usual sound and its my name for the more......non-traditonal music.

That's quite a statement and also contradictory.legend4ry wrote:

What gives you the impression that the people posting in the thread didn't feel that they personally pushed themselves and experimented outside of their usual norms to achieve the results they have posted?

I said @ the original post.. Wasn't a hit at anyones music or nothing.. It was more of the thread title which struck a nerve. I meant that just because someone isn't using (to quote the main post) "odd time sigs, un-quantized sounds, ambient stuff, tunes written at 9bpm, recordings of you circuit bending vtech toys, sounds from gameboy games put through a million and one vibrato's," doesn't mean they are not experimenting... I found it genuinely pretentious and a very hipster way of looking at the music world and quite an insult to anyone who really does try and take new directions within their music.
Experimentation is means trying something you're not sure if its going to work or not...Weather thats time stretching something you've never time stretched before or circuit bending shitty toys.. Its all still trying new things and hoping for the best.
This forum needs less elitism and pretentiousness.

I understand what you're saying, but on a forum I'm not sure there's ever a good way of coaxing out the kind of music I think the OP was looking to hear from people.

Dude.. this is dope!!!Basic A wrote:Its one of those kind of threads, where i ask you to shaameless post your own tunes... but theres a catch, so please read.
Im. Sick. Of. Dubstep.
So dont post any. No, your bleh bleh bleh inspired dubstep isnt experimental, its just dubstep, no matter how unique it is. Im sorry if that twists your panties wrong or sounds cuntish, but, its true and I have to say it or this thread will be full of a million and one 'dubstep meets x-genre experiments'. And I just plain old dont want that.
No... Im looking for odd time sigs, un-quantized sounds, ambient stuff, tunes written at 9bpm, recordings of you circuit bending vtech toys, sounds from gameboy games put through a million and one vibrato's, stuff played in reverse, heavily modulated rhythmic white noise, resequenced sounds of the crucifixion, ect... Real experimental shiz. "Not normal" EDM. Im sure alot of people on here dont come from a background thats dotted with noise music and off-time-sigs, but thats the stuff that got me into EDM, and Im trying to remember why I like this stuff in the first place.
Stuff for Audiphiles... I want your weirdest. Stuff you didnt upload because it was TOO weird. Gemme?![]()
I only know 2 people on this board I can say really, truly experiment... thats sad. (biggup qwaycee and nowaysj for keeping things bizarre though, I love you guys, you make me feel not so alone being an audio-fetishist.
But yeah. Your weirdest please?

Re: Who's Actually Experimenting?
I never once said that you couldnt be experimenting by not doing that, I was specifically pointing out that while more traditional EDM could be considered experimental thats not what I was looking for from this thread. i also never said everything 'circuit bent through your moms hoover' was automatically good. Your making alot of misinterpretations of what I said here man, you should apply at some tabloids, youd be good at it.
I also, in no way, was looking for shit 'Aimed at nerds and non-club goers' (and for the record, if youve never been to a powernoise/bender night, dont assume its all virgin nerds with no lives. Thats pretty pretentious of you, seeing as you used the word.) Just because you dont like something legend4ry, doesnt mean it is made for people who are beneath you, and thats really the way what you said came off when you started attacking odd, experimentalist music as being 'for nerds'.
somethings wrong if you think that just because you would regard something as senseless it was the person who made its intention to 'try to hard to be different.' Some of us sincerely love some of the more ridiculous sounds of the sonic spectrum, and I promise its in no way because we're looking for some kind of cool factor. One could argue the same about people trying to hard to make 'deep dubstep' but we wont get into that because you and i know its not true, but please see that what you said came off as really ignorant. To be writing off entire classes of music and sonic manipulation as 'nerds trying to hard to be different' is fucked up, especially given the magnitude of people posting in this thread who could prove you wrong in a heartbeat.
You and I both know normal, more traditional forms of EDM can have experimental factors, your acting like the popular press twisting what I said though, I was in no way ever saying it couldnt be experimental, I was simply asking we leave the dubstep out of this thread. Sorry you got upset about that. You dont need to attack classes of music as being for nerds though. Go bitch about brostep, same essential concept, hate-on-what-we-dont-like.
Would you consider Matthew David as 'music for nerds, trying to hard to be different?' ... What about Viral Lode? ... Or Burial? I said quantized off in my original post, was he trying to hard to impress nerds? The only person I see being elitist or pretentious in this thread is you man, everyone else was happily swapping ideas, tunes, and feedback.

By the way this thread is a great idea, I've listened to some of the tunes so far and some of them are pretty ill.

Thanks man - glad you dig... I decided to upload this one as well. Unreleased, just looking for the right label.

This one is on an organic/minimalist/drone vibe. What I dig most about it, is that instead of a ton of modular synths, the recording engineer (who was a full member of the band) focused on "playing" the delays and reverbs and panning as an instrument live.

Basic, the more time I've spent on this board, the less "experimental" I've become. Totally sad but true.
Monday's- dope tracks as always. ALWAYS
I don't think it's experimenting, so much as playing. Like just doing whatever you really want to do... have to agree with Basic, there just is very little of that going on here.
