From my personal experience, even if you want small changes, you've either got to do it properly and put serious effort in, or you may as well not bother at all unfortunately.wubstep wrote:Need to understand I'm not desperate for this shit though, just could do with working out a bit, gradually build up some girth. I don't really care about my image, it's just probably unhealthy to weigh the same as a 9 year old.borrowed wrote:I dont want to sound rude, but then progress isn't for you. With just the aid of protien and creatine and a decent lifting/sleeping sched, the average fuck can put on 25 pounds of clean muscle a year, if not more. Shit, two months into a good program you start to see results even with a jacket on, and people around you notice. Granted, not everyone lifts for that, but you'd be surprised.wubstep wrote:As soon as it gets into week-long training plans and gym memberships, I'm like...nah, not for me.
I think I should just get a pull up bar, some weights, a matt and just workout in my room rather than being sat on my fucking arse so many hours a day. Not sure those rigid plans are for me.

Eat, eat then eat some more. Its just as important as the exercise. If you cant be bothered with protein shakes just eat lots of chicken and eggs amongst other things.wubstep wrote:I do skate regularly, a few times a week, and it's very hilly round here. Yeah, gonna have to up that a bit I think. I tend to have a fairly small appetite in the sense I can't stomach huge meals, but I prefer to graze throughout the day. Cook bigger portions and fridge that shit.dubmatters wrote:Eat, eat then eat some more. Its just as important as the exercise. Re: Working Out....
I finally managed to get myself back in the gym, been going for close to a year now, but with lots of breaks in between. I try to go twice a week, but it probably averages out to just under once a week. Been going to the gym off and on for the past 10 years, this round is probably the most successful I've been. Don't know whether it's to do with age or if I'm finally doing things more correctly. I'm still skinny as fuck though, even though I eat a crapload more food than most people my size
Definitely helps to have a buddy to go with, and he pushes himself too, which is good for me as I'm well behind what he can lift. We don't do free weights though.

Re: Working Out....
If anyone wants to join me, I might make a daily log thread here to help stick to the routine, and post results in two months. Anyone?

I wouldnt worry about having massive portions, much better to have 5 or six smaller portions than 3 mega ones.wubstep wrote:Yeah, gonna have to up that a bit I think. Re: Working Out....
I've been on and off with the gym for the past couple of years but properly started up in Jan this year. Mon / Wed / Fri with rest days in between. I can see how the gym is unappealing as it does get boring if you're on your own. It's best to go with mates as they can spot and just generally make it far more productive.
I'm moving at the end of this week to a completely new city, no friends and only a few family members, so home gym for me! Bought a chin-up bar for £8 on ebay and 120KG of weights / bench press bar / crooked bar and bench for £60 used off gumtree.
You only really need to spend an hour every other day and you can start to see gains in 3-4 months, nothing major but keep going and you'll start to see big changes after 8-12 months.
I used to play badminton for my county and represented England for the youth games, I stupidly quit before uni - no idea why, guess i'm just a lazy fuck.

I used to work at Virgin Active so i got free membership and went 3 times a week, went from being fat to being fairly muscly in about 4 months. Having someone to workout with makes a lot of difference!
Also I wouldn't have coped without these naughty little bastards!

I take Whey Protein, once a day, either in the morning or after a workout.

Re: Working Out....
Don't worry if you can't lift much to begin with, everyone has to start somewhere.
My tips:
* Don't over-train, 6 days a week in the gym is overkill imo.
* Eating enough decent food is equally if not more important than the exercise itself.
* Bench press, squats and dead-lifts work your core strength and muscles and are vital imo of you want to see decent results from your efforts.
* Change your routine frequently to prevent bordom.
Technique is also very important, not only does it help prevent injury but you will get the full benefit from the exercise.
If you can't do the reps properly the weight is too heavy. Don't be one of those twats who can barely lift the weights and only do half reps. Its a waste of time and makes you look like a moron, not some skinny hero who thinks they can bench 90kg.
The problems with woking out at home is that its far too easy to just say fuck it and not bother. I know quite a few people who have bench/weights etc at home but they sit unused in the garage.
Once you've actually made it to the gym, your forced to do some exercise!
I know not everyone has access to a gym but even a set of dumbells and a bench can be as good investment if your really going to use them.
There are tons of dumbell exercises and many videos on youtube showing decent technique.
