sure it is, but having some super sinister quote that's custom fitted to a number of causes and implies that it's from the horses mouth is MISinformation. it's a bloodline, it's not some guy with a curly moustache laughing at peons and taunting them by claiming to be their masterPistonsbeneath wrote:the bloodlines thing is pretty easy to corroborate

what is there to consider?Pistonsbeneath wrote:the hideout is fast becoming full of people that would rather shoot something down than actually consider it
i still don't get what their demands are, and how they intend to achieve them.
i've watched a few of the vids on their site and read everything there, but it's all very vague. the vids are just people wandering around looking at nicknacks, filming each other and playing drums.
for example, in ukraine the government wants to extend the retirement age, and cut the pensions of afghan war veterans and the liquidators who cleaned up chernobyl.
as a result the vets and liquidators decided to demand that the government change its mind. last weekend they gathered outside parliament in thousands and tried to storm it to deliver their demands. they reached the doors, making the politicians understand the depth of feeling. this caused the government to change the law being drafted.
this is also going unreported, but they don't care. it's about getting their rights, not looking cool and 'rebelious'

From the little I know, it was started by a small group with legitemate concerns, hijacked by tons of pseudo-lefits "activists" so they can start drumcircles and like, raise awareness about the corporations, man and is now in the process of being dubbed a 'crazy movement' by the mainstream media so it will AGAIN be hijacked by people who are nothing like the ones who originally started it.

See, this is the problem, and the main reason I have trouble taking this sort of shit seriously. It's like the hippy episode of South Park. They all gather together, smoke weed, bang drums, listen to music...then when Kyle & Stan suggest doing something worthwhile to actually change things, the hippies nod and agree, then go back to smoking weed, banging drums, listening to music...

Question. If it's got no media coverage, wouldn't it also imply that you can't find their "concerns", rather than they don't actually have any?

they've got live streams up all the time, as well as countless blogs, pages, sites, and twitter accounts.zerbaman wrote:Question. If it's got no media coverage, wouldn't it also imply that you can't find their "concerns", rather than they don't actually have any?

have a watch and see what you think.
right now there are a group of hipsters discussing an amendment to their website about their community theatre and how the directors don't care about actors. they're voting on whether or not to support it. i kid you not.
"hands up if you support it, hands up if you're kinda not sure, hands up if you think it's not cool".
you have to show your support by waggling your fingers in the air
"what we're doing here is revolutionary"
now they're onto "who owns a wikipedia article"
this is why no one cares - it' really is just a hipster circle jerk

anyway.
"If these kids were truly interested in finding a solution, there are so many places to start. Since they are on wall street, i'd say it would be extremely awesome if they rallied to bring back the Glass-Steagall act, but unfortunately all they're interested in is disrupting urban traffic so they can sit in a park eating free pizza talking about how oppressed they think their lives are whilst tweeting about their revolutionary "movement" on their iphones. Eugh"
this is beyond ignorant. YOU ARE NOT THERE.

Really it's gotten a decent amount of media coverage, I just read a piece in the huffpost about it and it's made the rounds on msnbc. The reason it doesn't have more coverage is because it's an embarrassing testament to american democracy and lacks any direction whatsoever.zerbaman wrote:Question. From the article:
Such a waste..."Indefinitely," said Shon Botado, one of the protesters staffing the first aid station, a couple of tables spilling over with donated cold medicine, vitamins, tampons and other paraphernalia, when asked how long he was planning to be there. "Until change is made to the financial structure."
What that change might look like, no one can say for sure.
Re: #Occupywallstreet >
Well American democracy is an embarrassment so why go there for solutions?

This isn't supposed to sound condescending when I ask this, it's a genuine question:
Has anyone here done any activist work or political work, from whatever branch of the political spectrum? I don't think that question has been asked here and if it has I forgot. It would be good to hear other people's experiences.

i live in a country where there was a popular uprising that changed the result of a fixed election. they had clear grievances and aims, rallied popular support from across the whole population, gathered in hundreds of thousands in the winter, and changed the government.-boring wrote:negativity is all i see from u lot.
the police and army changed sides to support them, and people were willing to fight and die for it. it was an amazing time to be here, and it makes you understand how you can achieve something if you have a clear agenda and popular support.
i repeat my earlier question, because i would genuinely like to know.
what is the aim of the occupy wall street protest? how will they achieve it?
