James Blake on the state of dubstep

the reactions in this thread showcase again the sad state of affairs.
Seems like most of you know a) nothing about his music/discography, B) have never heard a James Blake DJ set.
Who cares if you think his album is pretentious. The man has the right to speak and finally he makes some sense in his words.

Go listen to your second rate dub police records and claim dominion over dubstep watching it slowly slip further down the drain....

Funny, thats what I hear brostep fans say about all the Deep-Medi and Hyperdub releases. Anybody who makes comments as sweeping as this is just a member in a cycle of douchebags.


The Blake quote was nice to hear even if it wasn't anything new. Still reflects an interest and an involvement with the scene, which is cool. Radiohead were called the saviors of rock before releasing Kid A (which alot of people were initially furious about) and I think its easily their best album. People always get defensive when somebody goes against the established grain, whether that be Deep Medi or Mau5trap. Big ups to all musicians cranking out stuff people enjoy.

The funny thing is that James Blake is an only child.

Either way: Yeah, like a lot of guys in the thread has said, he just answered the question. I think a lot of his pre-album stuff was great (Footnotes, like was posted earlier - is a jam), also that Untold remix is still fire. I think that for the essential mix you just have to take it as it is and not think about how much chin stroking you're going to do listening to Satie or whatever.

(I'm still not sold on Pan/Order yet, so I'm not a full on stan).

Granted, I do think that Pitchfork knew what they were doing - baiting him basically, and they chose a quote that they knew would get a lot of feedback - both in agreeance with and in opposition to his comment.

I agree with you to an extent, but there's equally as many who make sweeping generalizations and attacks about "bro-step". While I disagree with James Blake's comments, it seems like he did it in as nearly a respectful way as one could possible do.
