@electric head. take a look at the sub. it's reaaaaaaaaallllyyy low. what are you monitoring on?
I'm using krk's and they're pretty decent at picking up a bit of bass. The kick I think you need to remove about 700 - 800hz.
Where is your sub playing at? What waveform are you using.

Lemme share a lil secret.
Get high rankin's sub bass patch. its ridiculously phat. I think it's from a moog. or sample hardware synths and the central "C" note?
Use in whatever sampler you have.
put a vintage warmer on and PUNT the drive.
EQ everything out until about 80-100hz depending where your notes are sitting.
Don't ever play notes lower than 20hz. try keep em from 40 -100 hz for maximum impact and use of bass.

Maybe I think you're playing notes to low.
And always compare your tunes to the peaking of others.
With bass I always look at a Mala, Skrillex(Ruffneck Bass) and old rusko/caspa stuff simply because their basses are immense.

The kick is pretty loud come to think of it :)
Just consider my crit, I'm not hating man, just think that you could make that a killer sub tune.

And thanks to everyone for the crit :)
Didn't make it for the competition but hopefully Shadow takes a look at it.
(He did with my last remix :P )
So gonna wait until the comp is over and put it up for download :)
Finding it really difficult making dubstep tunes. Liquid DNB and DNB in general for me is much easier.

@motionsedinburgh: Oh my god. So sick. Great style you got. The only thing I can say is the intro was a little too long for me. Other than that your sounds are excellent!

@mammoth: Really chilled out, kinda creepy at times though haha. To me, its not very... "musical" its more atmospheric but it sounds good. I think you should add some more EDM to it and make it a full SONG.

@airgonaut: Wowwwwwww. This is pretty sick. I can't really hear your snare though id like to hear it more. Other than that... its so chilled. I could picture myself riding around in my car, windows open, just bumping. This is feel good music right here. Excellent. Not much to complain about.

And heres my track. Its kind of old school dub step in a way... kind of a mix of todays generation though. Some say its kinda coki-ish? Let me know what you think and if you like it feel free to follow me on sound cloud. Thanks a bunch guys

[quote="Airgonaut"]

@Drastik: Kick sounds a little distorted? That might be what you want though, not sure. I don't really like that static sound at 1:02ish. I wish the sample at 1:20 didn't interrupt the flow of the drop so much, because I really do like the drop. It seems to get in the way a little.

Hey Airgonaut thanks for the feedback, I'll look into these issue's and probably change that drop around 1:20 as well. I was going back and forth with the delay feeding back through the drop but maybe it's not working.

I'm diggin your tune, vocals are spot on, everything seems mixed pretty well. Snare is sitting pretty far back in the mix, but it's obvious that's intentional. Maybe the bass could be just a touch louder, mostly just the low end, maybe 60-90Hz? The only thing that bugs me is the kick sounds muffled, I know that's intentional as well but I feel like it needs just the slightest touch of a snappy beater sound in there. Not much mind you, just a hint of it.

Maybe it's just me of course, but once I noticed the kick I couldn't stop feeling like there was a pillow over my speakers. It's a weird annoying feeling...ha! or like I said maybe it's just me.

@draztik the vocal sample kind of kills the groove a little
i think the kicks should groove more with swing/triplets
that blatant of a modern talking though = :a:
other basses are pretty dope though.

HA! Thanks Mammoth, knew someone would call that bass out. I did layer a couple of plugs over it but I guess I'm just a sucker for that shiz.

Your tune sounds like an excellent start to something. I thing you should flesh it out a bit more, but what you've got sounds good so far.

Antman - nice bass lines, I think there needs more percussion and variation with the drums they're pretty boring to be honest! The vocal samples are nice but perhaps taking up too much of the mix when they on, consider compressing. Really nice ideas just needs some work

I'm completely clueless about how to add drums and melody to a track like this without it sounding fake..

@Electric_Head: I agree with Phizicist, your kick is nice, and the sub is there but definetly being played too low, just bring it up abit and it will really bring out the whole tune, good job tho!

@Antman: im likin the wobbles and reverb, i would recommended finding some more solid drums and changing them up a bit to create more variation in the track. your talking "yaya" sound seems kind of scratchy, unless thats the sound you were going for (cuz i know some people like that one) maybe try just fine tuning it a little

@Cheeky: I really like the production of this tune! i would recommend adding another snare hit on top because the one you have now is just a little low because of the reverb, other than that its a great production! love the atmospherics

Not sure if you guys will like this cause its a different style than everybody has been posting so far but heres my lastest anyways

@antman: really like that 'main wobble' you have going on, but after every couple of bars it stops for a short wobble and I don't really like the sound of that one :p lol hope you know which wobble i'm talkin about

@cheeky: like itsdeadpool already said, I think a heavier snare would make this a better tune.

@itsdeadpool: your production sounds really good and rather professional, but the song is just a bit to hectic for me. I'd say give that synth a rest sometimes :p some variation with other synths maybe could be nice.. Anyway I'm sure a lot of people would love this tune!

I hope I can get some feedback on this one from you guys :) it's something grimey.. drop might remind you of Benga's Night

@ JackHerror: Really nice tune man! I like the reverbs and the claps. I would work on the kick a bit because your sub has almost more punch than the kick, if you got a deeper kick with a bit more punch I think it would sound a lot better. really solid tho man keep it up

@Refuzed - I feel like the kick has a bit too much low-end in it. Gets kind of lost in my opinion. Snare sounds nice and snappy though, almost like a whip! Haha. Sub vibes are nice. :)

@itsdeadpool - I think the main bass might be slightly too detuned. It kind of gets muddy and dissonant. Mix sounds good though! Felt like the snare was lost at a few points. Good breakdown in the middle! :)

@Jack Herror - Definitely feeling the percussion, but wasn't feeling the sub much. Kick was slightly under the mix too. Feel like it should be a bit more up front. Good vibe to it but couldn't feel much sub.

This was supposed to be a WIP but I think I'm kind of burnt out on this one. Mostly learning still.

All feedback good and contructive is appreciated. Gotta know what I'm doing wrong, and right. Been trying my hand at music production for about 9 months now, been playing music for over ten years (guitar, drums, piano, trumpet) so, yah thats where I"m comin from. it's pretty much done, though now that I've seen the waveform on soundcloud, not sure, intro may have to be changed... :|
*as a sidenote I made this track about a couple months ago before I really got into mixing and mastering techniques AT ALL. Tried to doctor it up enough for soundcloud.

@ JackHerror, feeling the vibe. Sort of and old Ramadanman style to it. The percussion is funky too. Nice breakdowns too. I would add some pads and maybe a melodie coming in and out of the "bo bo bo bo bo" bassline, keep from getting a bit stale. Over all nice track though.

@itsdeadpool, not my style of dubstep, but i can appreciate the production. The drums sound very tight and come through in the mix nice. basslines are interesting and have nice movement. you seem to have control of everything in the track. Nice work.

@antman, really like the bassline, real wibbler. Reminds of jakes. You could however, in my opinion, work on the drop...the track just seems to come out of nowhere and doesnt really bridge well from the into. Also, you could do with a new snare. Seems very weak in the mix

Two tracks of mine, both forthcoming Gamma Audio. :)

@Cheeky- cool ideas but snare and percussion are weak in the mix. Try playing around with compression or a transient shaper for nicer hits and attack. I like your bass sounds and the progression of the song. Some other ideas: try out a few swings in your quantize patterns of hats and percussion (if using midi drums) and add a little more variation to your sub and drums. Try out adding a lead or pad to add to your mix as the mid/high end sounds quite empty.

@itsdeadpool- all though this isn't my cup of tea I can appreciate the production skills in this track: nice full mix of frequencies sitting comfortably in their own places.

@renegadex- low end is muddy but original sounds which is cool, and I like the breakdown. Go mad with eqs- lots of low cuts where the low end isn't necessary and just conflicts with your sub/kick and snare. Intro is quite long and repetitive could do with some variation.

This is my new track. I've only mixed it on headphones so far so may sound different on monitors but let me know what you think:

@Antman Oh man that bass sound is fucking cooooool, reminds me alot of some Benga stuff! I think your drums and samples are too dry and the synth before the drop is kinda lame.

@Refuzed KILLER Sub and percussion!

@Cheeky real heavy wobbles, love it! and the squelchy synth, beautiful.

Anyway here is mine!

Going to give some feedback to the last 3 posters with music in them to be fair.

@ConFusion-at with "lurker".

Loving the heavy bass, lovely production already on this. The phasing and modulation is keeping this interesting and I'm diggin the rhythm of the bass and drums.. The parts where the bass synth quiets and it's left with the high synth at like about 1:50 is cool, really compliments the heavier bits. Really enjoyed this mate, one thing I'd say would be maybe a few more layers of synth as incidentals through the track just to spice it up a little? Not that it needs it but it could help.

@comfy with "Karma".

The intro is a cool part, but I found myself turning the volume down a little because of the high frequencies. Liking the melody though. Cool chords that skip through the bass at the end of each bar, quite a crazy track. I think maybe when that filter comes in and takes the highs out could be a little too strong, that would be my only gripe with this track is the balance of the frequencies. Really liked the different melodies and the interesting sounds you used here though, enjoyed it.

@CASIOASSASSIN with "Crystal"

Agressive tune you have here pal haha! Got my head bobbing to this, really like the little intricate parts like 0.34 and 0.42ish. Lots of high frequencies in the snare though man, although I have a feeling you were going for that with the whole glitchyness of the track. Cool stuff mate, plus I think I hear a Breaking Bad sample in there? Haha niice!

Here's a track of mine that I completed today. It's not dubstep but drum & bass I guess. Very 80's vibes, I hope you like it!

@ Stillzkin: the reason your not receiving any feedback may be because you didnt give any to other.. just sayin

@ renegadex: this is a good tune man, try and finish it! I know exactly how you feel tho haha your bass is nice and strong but you have a lot of cool background sounds and atmospheric stuff that are drowning in the sub, bring those out more and the tune will sound even better

@ENNO: I'm obviously a larger fan of the more wild, philthy stuff, but I can definetly appreciate your sound. Really good production dude, can't really think of anything to change. keep up the good work!

@ Confusion-at: I really like the synth in this. I would work on your kick to make it stand out a little more because when the sub comes in it becomes very faint. drums patterns were a little all over the place for me but a really cool and unique sound overall!

@CASIOASSASSIN: love the sample too much distortion and static on the synths tho, it takes away a lot from the flow. work on the snare to make it thicker and maybe layer it with a couple others

@jstick: I really like the whole vibe up this tune man, really cool and creative. work on your drums to make them stand out for, and when the song drops add more sub and turn up the synths a bit because the first time I listened the whole thing kind of sounded like an intro. I dont mean that to be taken the wrong way, its a really good song and with a bit of sound tweaking it can be a really great song!

@Comfi - Nice track. Mix sounds kinda muddy, though. And, as jstick said, the balance of frequencies is a bit off. Melodies and sounds are great, though.
...in my opinion
