Just to remind you this is not the first time he's been accused of pinching someting from someone else.

Skream! accused of using Dub midi file

Croydon dubstep innovator Skream! has been criticized by dubroom.org (a website offering free midi versions of Dub tunes) for using their version of "Rock The Nation" by Messian Dread. In a statement posted on dubroom.org, They accuse Skream! of using the file in his "Blue Eyez" track featured on his 2006 self titled debut.

This is of course a slightly unusual example of the issues in sampling in hip hop and electronic music as midi files are not actual audio files in themselves but a kind of "digital score" which your computer plays back with whatever synth is available (often a nasty cheap sounding piano).

If Skream! in fact used the midi file, he mapped it onto a synth which, assuming he programmed it himself, means that he still had some creative input into the sound if the sample.

However, such blatant use of a melody could still be regarded as lazy composition. It would be interesting to see what legal rights Messian Dread and dubroom.org have in this case. However, since both releases probably sold too few copies in the grand scheme of things for any legal action to happen.

i don't have anything against it being similar to haunted, i just noticed it straight away so thought i'd mention.

that MIDI thing does sound pretty much like a straight copy and paste job though :/

What a fuckin stupid statement. Why do people on this forum get so offended when someone says something they dont like about their favorite artists? Get off his fuckin dick. Whats the point of this forum if people cant express when they 'god forbid' dont like something or actually have an opinion?

As far as i can see people are just saying the track sounds quite a bit like "Haunted", which quite frankley, it does, they arent overly critisizing him.

Skream is a legend no doubt, but some of the tunes he has made recently are pure shit and he is a musician and as dubstep fans on a forum we have a reason to state when we dont like something he does, after all, without fans buying his music he wouldnt be anywhere.
mate there have a been a fucking TON of threads regarding shit skream tunes.. thats why im a bit pissed everytime theres a new tune there are new guys on the forum going blah blah its shit its not like the tunes he used to make.. wtf you prob weren't even around when he was making his old stuff! guys are fuckin idiots if you don't like what your hearing go on and produce dubstep you want to hear.. its easier to sit at home and slate something someone put time and effort into rather than make your own shit
OOOOOOHHH get you the dubstep master, youve been posting on a forum for three years so youre opinion is clearly more valid than everyone elses!!!

Skream's straight genius. Never ever made a track I don't like. Anyone who says differently is wrong. End of thread.

Comments like this are the reason half the threads I read have gone to shit.

I'm not saying don't argue, but don't argue like an idiot. Or get too worked up starting beef. (not directed at Sonika, just generally)

I was around, and anyways what does that matter? That has got nothing to do with the fact that people dont like his new stuff.

I get where your coming from about there been loads of threads, but its not Skream is not able to make bangers anymore, he is. Your making it sound like hes really struggling to make a good tune, but thats not the case at all, hes CHOOSING to make this type of midrange brostepp-y sound and thats what pisses people off the most.

What the fuck is this thread? There are so many tunes in dubstep that sound so much more similar to one another than this does to Haunted. This sounds like Xmas Day Swagger because quite clearly it's a VIP of it. Other than that the only thing it slightly reminds me of is Wibbler by Skream but barely.

Wait, so you think people are getting pissed off more because he's making stuff they like and stuff they don't like rather than just stuff they don't like because he can't make stuff they like? :|

Eh........., No.

I was just making the point that he chooses to make this sound, the previous poster was making it sound like Skream was finding it difficult to make good tracks by saying we should all post up our tracks and see how we like been criticized.

What a fuckin retarded statement.

"Skream has never made a track i dont like. Anyone who says differently is wrong".

WTF does that mean??!?!?!?! Obviously we dont know what you like and dont like so if you say Skream has never made a track you dont like we will just have to take your word for it!

I think that was a shit attempt to annoy people here, but you just ended looking like an idiot.

For future refrences if you had said "Skream has never made a bad track" then that would have worked coz that depends on other peoples opinions not just yours. Ya get me.

But he also chooses to make stuff the heads like so what's the big deal, why do people get pissed off? I wasn't under the impression this thread was supposed to be about how much anyone likes the track. Thread is gash anyway for the reason I mentioned above. If this is gonna be done there are plenty of other examples of tracks more closely resembling one another.

This thread is waste.

Every wobble tune since Haunted was a rip off of Haunted anyway.

I like it - Probably a better version of Xmas Day Swagger.
