Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
I've been working in Ableton for 5 years and just used session view for the first time last week haha. Still don't see much use for it outside of performing, but the arrangement view is the cleanest and easiest I've seen in any daw. Everything's there on one screen, cleanly organized and as mtl said, because all the shortcuts are so burned into my brain, navigating the whole program is second nature. Like I literally touch the mouse once every 15 minutes when arranging. It's the least invasive daw that I've used if that makes sense? As in, when I use Live, the only barriers between me and producing whatever vision I have are purely creative, not some wonky program that's slowing me down.

Is this really really true? Giving you the Larry David squinty eye.Attila wrote:Like I literally touch the mouse once every 15 minutes when arranging.
Not the right look, but I don't have time for googling right now!
If that is true, it is awesome.
Sounds good, so I was trying to do something in live last night, and just couldn't figure it out. Maybe you can shed some light: I need a pad from my mpk49 to turn on an effect when it is pressed, and to turn it off when I let go. Any helps?Attila wrote:when I use Live, the only barriers between me and producing whatever vision I have are purely creative, not some wonky program that's slowing me down.

Okay, maybe not quite 15 minutes, but I work in piano roll completely on my keyboard, chop, edit and record completely from shortcuts...my left pinky is basically always on ctrl. The only thing I really need my mouse for is selecting plugins, then I usually have everything else midi mapped so it's not a problem. Recently it's been more out of necessity, my wrist has been giving me serious problems, so keeping it away from any sort of position that puts excessive pressure on it has been a must. Thank god making keyboard shortcuts is so damn easy in Live (even though it very well may be just as easy in any other program).nowaysj wrote:Is this really really true?Attila wrote:Like I literally touch the mouse once every 15 minutes when arranging.

As for what you're trying to do with that pad, sorry man I don't really have too much experience in serious midi mapping. The extent of what i do usually just involves excessive macroing. I've tried messing with the editor that came with my mpk mini, but that software is still a headache to navigate for me. If you find an answer I'd be interested in knowing though, could be fun for live stuff. The best thing I can think of is just mapping it to the on/off. Even though you'd have to press it twice it'd still probably get the job done.
Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
I love Ableton's interface, a lot of people find it confusing and difficult to get into but I absolutely love it! Just go with what fits you best man!
