I think this is the crux of the problem. Reading a book of someone else's ideas is research, but it's not necessarily anything to do with evidence. The Bible claims to hold evidence for the existence of God - just because it says it does, doesn't mean it actually does!

Most of the 'evidence' provided for occultism and masonic conspiracies (after the middle ages, anyway - if we were having this conversation around the time of the second crusade, I'd be much more open) are long lists of coincidences.... and you really can find coincidences everywhere. If someone sampled Wagner in a Dubstep tune, would that make them an Anti-Semite?

Symbolism was hugely important in designing a lot of our old buildings - most European churches, cathedrals and 'seats of power' are rich in non-Christian symbolism because of a few reasons, but primarily they're high pieces of art in the same way that any other major works are... a church design and build may well take several decades of an architects career - it is a huge part of a life's work - of course they're going to put as many flourishes in as they can... they wouldn't have become a famous architect if they weren't known for their knowledge of styling.... and like any artist, they want to leave something that sparks conversations for centuries. They don't want to spend 30 years designing a building that bores them or the owners/occupants.

Another major reason, especially on religious buildings, was to make natives and non-Christians feel more comfortable around Christianity. Build a church to the "new" God and surround it with references to old, traditional religion and people are much more likely to join the congregation - this can be seen in our churches with all the woodland creatures, elfs and particularly the "Green Man", but also in other areas of the world where churches were built by missionaries to reflect native culture in Africa or by the Southern Spanish and Northern Africans to reflect Islamic culture.

But yeah, assuming that the people occupying those seats of power believe the same nonsense as their counterparts did possibly millennia ago doesn't really seem to be that logical. Nobody else believes the same as their counterparts did back then, why would this lot? Why, in a world where science and technology define our existence would the most successful people in the world choose to believe a religion whose power has, for all intents and purposes, been disproved well before any of them were born?

Mainly it's because we've had entire threads discussing most of those videos individually - as much as I break things down, it's clear nobody pays attention - yeah, those things show a "possibility" of something, but to turn that into "proof of it definitely happening" is a critical failure just the same as believing the Bible word for word... just because someone points out a coincidence or provides an opinion doesn't mean they have "evidence" of anything... especially when you're looking at Lady Gaga and Rihanna videos as your source... some of my closest friends work in the pop industry (1/4 of my flat was at the Brits this week) which is why I find shouting "DEVIL WORSHIPPER!" a bit offensive... I can assure you, none of them have ever seen anything even remotely approaching devil worship in the pop industry.

They've seen a lot of fake eyelashes, lip-syncing, stupidity, eating disorders, temper tantrums, drug use and loose knickers... but they've never seen anyone prostrated in front of an all seeing eye.

If I was making a music video today though, I'd aim for ALL the masonic cliches. Every forum on the Internet has at least one or two people that will, between them, spam the whole web with links to the video and essays on its "symbolism" - it's absolutely incredible free PR... instead of relying on MTV and Radio One, you can let a music video go viral on the Internet. Saves my housemate loads of bother when Rihanna or Gaga release something new - nice work!


Again though - why in the age of secure e-mail, private planes, private islands and secure conference centres would anyone need to put secret messages in mass media? What does anyone gain from putting a triangle in an MIA video? Really?

This. Theres definitely possibilities for a lot of crazy shit. But just because theres a possibility doesn't mean it's true or that I should take the idea too seriously.
